2 Kings 9
1 And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said to him, Gird up your loins, and take this box of oil in your hand, and go to Ramothgilead:
Elisée, le prophète, appela un des fils des prophètes et lui dit: « Ceins tes reins, prends en ta main cette fiole d’huile et va à Ramoth-en-Galaad.
2 And when you come thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brothers, and carry him to an inner chamber;
Quand tu y seras arrivé, regarde après Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Namsi; et, l’ayant abordé, tu le feras lever du milieu de ses frères, et tu le conduiras dans une chambre retirée.
3 Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus says the LORD, I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
Tu prendras la fiole d’huile, tu la répandras sur sa tête et tu diras: Ainsi dit Yahweh: Je t’oins roi d’Israël. Puis tu ouvriras la porte et tu t’enfuiras sans tarder. »
4 So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramothgilead.
Le jeune homme, serviteur du prophète, partit pour Ramoth-en-Galaad.
5 And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to you, O captain. And Jehu said, To which of all us? And he said, To you, O captain.
Lorsqu’il arriva, voici que les chefs de l’armée étaient assis. Il dit: « Chef, j’ai un mot à te dire. » Et Jéhu dit: « Auquel de nous tous? » Il répondit: « A toi, chef. »
6 And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel.
Jéhu se leva et entra dans la maison; et le jeune homme répandit l’huile sur sa tête, en lui disant: « Ainsi dit Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël: Je t’oins roi du peuple de Yahweh, d’Israël.
7 And you shall smite the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.
Tu frapperas la maison d’Achab, ton maître, et je vengerai sur Jézabel le sang de mes serviteurs les prophètes et le sang de tous les serviteurs de Yahweh.
8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that urinates against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:
Toute la maison d’Achab périra; j’exterminerai tout mâle appartenant à Achab, celui qui est esclave et celui qui est libre en Israël,
9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah:
et je rendrai la maison d’Achab semblable à la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, et à la maison de Baasa, fils d’Ahia.
10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.
Les chiens mangeront Jézabel dans le champ de Jézrahel, et il n’y aura personne pour l’enterrer. » Et le jeune homme, ouvrant la porte, s’enfuit.
11 Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said to him, Is all well? why came this mad fellow to you? And he said to them, You know the man, and his communication.
Alors Jéhu sortit pour rejoindre les serviteurs de son maître. Ils lui dirent: « Tout va-t-il bien? Pourquoi ce fou est-il venu vers toi? » Il leur répondit: « Vous connaissez l’homme et son langage. »
12 And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spoke he to me, saying, Thus says the LORD, I have anointed you king over Israel.
Ils répliquèrent: « Mensonge! Déclare-le-nous! » Et il dit: « Il m’a parlé de telle et telle manière, disant: Ainsi dit Yahweh: Je t’oins roi d’Israël. »
13 Then they hurried, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king.
Aussitôt, chacun prenant son manteau, ils le mirent sous Jéhu, au haut des degrés; ils sonnèrent de la trompette et dirent: « Jéhu est roi! »
14 So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had kept Ramothgilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria.
Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Namsi, forma une conspiration contre Joram. — Joram et tout Israël défendaient alors Ramoth-en-Galaad contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie;
15 But king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel.
mais le roi Joram s’en était retourné pour se faire guérir à Jezrahel des blessures que les Syriens lui avaient faites, lorsqu’il se battait contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. — Jéhu dit: « Si c’est votre désir, que personne ne s’échappe de la ville pour aller porter la nouvelle à Jezrahel. »
16 So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram.
Et Jéhu, étant monté sur son char, partit pour Jezrahel, car Joram y était couché, et Ochozias, roi de Juda, était descendu pour visiter Joram.
17 And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take an horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?
La sentinelle qui se tenait sur la tour à Jezrahel vit venir la troupe de Jéhu et dit: « Je vois une troupe. » Et Joram dit: « Prends un cavalier et envoie-le au-devant d’eux pour demander: Est-ce la paix? »
18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What have you to do with peace? turn you behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he comes not again.
Le cavalier alla au-devant de Jéhu et dit: « Ainsi dit le roi: Est-ce la paix? » Et Jéhu répondit: « Que t’importe la paix? Passe derrière moi. » La sentinelle en donna son avis, en disant: « Le messager est allé jusqu’à eux, et il ne revient pas. »
19 Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What have you to do with peace? turn you behind me.
Joram envoya un second cavalier, qui arriva vers eux et dit: « Ainsi dit le roi: Est-ce la paix? » Et Jéhu répondit: « Que t’importe la paix?; passe derrière moi. »
20 And the watchman told, saying, He came even to them, and comes not again: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he drives furiously.
La sentinelle en donna avis, en disant: « Le messager est allé jusqu’à eux, et il ne revient pas. Et la manière de conduire est comme la manière de conduire de Jéhu, fils de Namsi, car il conduit d’une manière insensée. »
21 And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
Alors Joram dit: « Attelle; » et on attela son char. Joram, roi d’Israël, et Ochozias, roi de Juda, sortirent chacun sur son char; ils sortirent au-devant de Jéhu, et ils le rencontrèrent dans le champ de Naboth de Jezrahel.
22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the prostitutions of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?
En apercevant Jéhu, Joram lui dit: « Est-ce la paix, Jéhu? » Jéhu répondit: « Quelle paix, tant que durent les prostitutions de Jézabel, ta mère, et ses nombreux sortilèges? »
23 And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.
Joram tourna bride et s’enfuit, et il dit à Ochozias: « Trahison, Ochozias! »
24 And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and smote Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.
Mais Jéhu saisit son arc de sa main, et frappa Joram entre les épaules: la flèche sortit par le cœur, et Joram s’affaissa dans son char.
25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and you rode together after Ahab his father, the LORD laid this burden on him;
Et Jéhu dit à son officier Badacer: « Prends-le et jette-le dans le champ de Naboth de Jezrahel. Car, souviens-toi: lorsque moi et toi nous chevauchions ensemble derrière Achab, son père, Yahweh prononça contre lui cette sentence:
26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, says the LORD; and I will requite you in this plat, says the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the LORD.
« Aussi vrai que j’ai vu hier le sang de Naboth et le sang de ses fils, oracle de Yahweh, je te rendrai la pareille dans ce champ même, oracle de Yahweh. » Prends-le donc et jette-le dans le champ, selon la parole de Yahweh. »
27 But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Smite him also in the chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.
Ochozias, roi de Juda, voyant cela, s’enfuit par le chemin de la maison du jardin. Jéhu le poursuivit et dit: « Frappez-le, lui aussi, sur le char! » Et on le frappa à la montée de Gaver, près de Jeblaam. Il s’enfuit à Mageddo, et il y mourut.
28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his sepulcher with his fathers in the city of David.
Ses serviteurs le transportèrent sur un char à Jérusalem, et ils l’enterrèrent dans son sépulcre avec ses pères, dans la ville de David.
29 And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.
Ochozias était devenu roi de Juda la onzième année de Joram, fils d’Achab.
30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.
Jéhu entra dans Jezrahel. Jézabel, l’ayant appris, mit du fard à ses yeux, se para la tête et regarda par la fenêtre.
31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?
Comme Jéhu franchissait la porte, elle dit: « Est-ce la paix, Zamri, assassin de son maître? »
32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.
Il leva les yeux vers la fenêtre et dit: « Qui est avec moi? Qui? » Et deux ou trois eunuques ayant regardé vers lui,
33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he stepped her under foot.
il dit: « Jetez-la en bas! » Ils la jetèrent en bas, et il rejaillit de son sang sur la muraille et sur les chevaux, et Jéhu la foula aux pieds.
34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king’s daughter.
Puis il entra et, ayant mangé et bu, il dit: « Allez voir cette maudite et enterrez-la, car elle est fille de roi. »
35 And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.
Ils allèrent pour l’enterrer, mais ils ne trouvèrent d’elle que le crâne, les pieds et les paumes de ses mains.
36 Why they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:
Ils retournèrent l’annoncer à Jéhu, qui dit: « Telle est la parole de Yahweh, qu’il avait prononcée par son serviteur Elie le Thesbite, en disant: Dans le champ de Jezrahel, les chiens mangeront la chair de Jézabel;
37 And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung on the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
et le cadavre de Jézabel sera comme du fumier sur la surface du champ, dans le champ de Jezrahel, de sorte qu’on ne pourra pas dire: c’est Jézabel. »
