1 John 5

1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loves him that fathered loves him also that is begotten of him.

第二款 イエズス、キリストに於る信仰及び其の尊き結果。 総てイエズスのキリストにて在すことを信ずる人は、神より生れ奉りたる者にして、総て生み給ひしものを愛する人は、亦神より生れ奉りたり者をも愛するなり。

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

我等は神を愛し奉りて其掟を實行する時、之を以て神の子等を愛する事を知る、

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

其は神に對する愛は、其掟を守るに在ればなり。斯て其掟は難きものに非ず。

4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

蓋総て神より生れ奉りし者は世に勝つ、而して世に勝ちたる勝利は我等の信仰是なり。

5 Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

世に勝つ者は誰ぞ、イエズスが神の御子にて在すことを信ずる者に非ずや。

6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.

是ぞ水と血とによりて來り給ひしもの、即ちイエズス、キリストなる、唯水のみに非ず水と血とによりてなり。之を證し給ふものは[聖]霊にして、[聖]霊は眞理にて在す。

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

蓋（天に於て證するもの三あり、父と御言と聖霊と是なり、而して此三のものは一に歸し給ふ。

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

又地に於て）證するもの三あり、霊と水と血と是なり、而して此三のものは一に歸す。

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son.

我等人の證を受くれば、神の證は更に大いなり、而して神の此證の大いなるは御子に就きて證し給ひしが故なり。

10 He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that believes not God has made him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of his Son.

神の御子を信じ奉る人は己の衷に神の證を有す、神を信ぜざる人は之を虚言者と為し奉る者なり、其は神が御子に就きて為し給へる證を信ぜざればなり。

11 And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. (aiōnios g166)

其證は是なり、即ち神我等に永遠の生命を賜ひて、此生命は其御子に在り、 (aiōnios g166)

12 He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life.

御子を有し奉る人は生命を有し、御子を有し奉らざる人は生命を有せざるなり。

13 These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God. (aiōnios g166)

結末。 我が是等の事を汝等に書贈るは、神の御子の御名を信じ奉る汝等をして、自ら永遠の生命を有せる事を知らしめん為なり。 (aiōnios g166)

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us:

又御旨に從ひて願ふ時は、何事をも我等に聴き給ふ事は、我等が彼に於て確信し奉る所にして、

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

何事を願ふも我等に聴き給ふ事を知れば、亦願ひし所を得べき事をも知れるなり。

16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not to death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not to death. There is a sin to death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

人若己が兄弟の死に至らざる罪を犯すを見ば祈るべし、然らば生命は死に至らざる罪を為せる人に賜はるべきなり。又死に至る罪あれば、我は之が為に願ふべしと言はず。

17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not to death.

凡ての不義は罪なり、又死に至らざる罪あり。

18 We know that whoever is born of God sins not; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not.

総て神より生れ奉りたる人は罪を為さず、神より生れ給ひしもの之を守り給ひて、惡魔の之に触るる事なきは我等之を知れり。

19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

我等は神よりのものにして、世は挙りて惡魔に属する事は我等之を知れり。

20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. (aiōnios g166)

神の御子が我等に眞の神を識らしめ、我等を其眞の御子に在らしめん為に、來りて智識を與へ給へる事は我等又之を知れり。是ぞ眞の神にして又永遠の生命にて在す。 (aiōnios g166)

21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

小子よ、自ら守りて偶像に遠ざかれ。
