1 Corinthians 9
1 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not you my work in the Lord?
Ne suis-je pas libre? Ne suis-je pas apôtre? Est-ce que je n'ai pas vu Jésus notre seigneur? N'êtes-vous pas vous-mêmes mon œuvre dans le seigneur?
2 If I be not an apostle to others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of my apostleship are you in the Lord.
Si, pour d'autres, je ne suis pas un apôtre, en revanche du moins je le suis pour vous, car vous êtes le sceau de mon apostolat dans le seigneur.
3 My answer to them that do examine me is this,
Voilà la justification que j'oppose à ceux qui me critiquent.
4 Have we not power to eat and to drink?
Est-ce que nous n'avons pas le droit de manger et de boire?
5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?
Est-ce que nous n'avons pas le droit de mener avec nous une sœur qui soit notre femme, comme le font aussi les autres apôtres, et les frères du seigneur, et Céphas?
6 Or I only and Barnabas, have not we power to forbear working?
Ou bien, moi seul et Barnabas n'avons-nous pas le droit de ne point travailler?
7 Who goes a warfare any time at his own charges? who plants a vineyard, and eats not of the fruit thereof? or who feeds a flock, and eats not of the milk of the flock?
Qui est-ce qui fait le service militaire à ses propres dépens? Qui est-ce qui plante une vigne, et n'en mange pas le fruit? Qui est-ce qui fait paître un troupeau, et ne se nourrit pas du lait de ce troupeau?
8 Say I these things as a man? or says not the law the same also?
Est-ce d'un point de vue humain que je parle ainsi, ou bien la loi aussi ne dit-elle pas les mêmes choses?
9 For it is written in the law of Moses, You shall not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treads out the corn. Does God take care for oxen?
En effet il est écrit dans la loi de Moïse: « Tu n'emmusèleras pas le bœuf qui foule le grain. » Est-ce que Dieu prend souci des bœufs?
10 Or says he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that plows should plow in hope; and that he that threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope.
Ou bien parle-t-Il uniquement à cause de nous? C'est à cause de nous en effet que cela a été écrit, car celui qui laboure doit labourer avec espérance, et celui qui foule le grain avec l'espérance d'en avoir sa part.
11 If we have sown to you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
Si, pour vous nous avons semé les choses spirituelles, est-il extraordinaire que nous moissonnions vos biens charnels?
12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
Si d'autres possèdent des droits sur vous, n'en possédons-nous pas nous-mêmes à plus forte raison? Mais nous n'avons pas usé de ces droits; au contraire nous endurons tout pour ne pas créer d'obstacle à l'évangile de Christ.
13 Do you not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui vaquent aux sacrifices tirent leur nourriture du temple, et que ceux qui sont employés au service de l'autel entrent en partage avec l'autel?
14 Even so has the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
De même aussi le Seigneur a prescrit à ceux qui annoncent l'Évangile de vivre de l'Évangile.
15 But I have used none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done to me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.
Pour moi je n'ai fait usage d'aucun de ces droits. Mais je n'écris pas ainsi afin que cela me soit appliqué, car mieux me vaudrait mourir; ou plutôt, ce qui est pour moi un motif de m'enorgueillir, personne ne le détruira.
16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid on me; yes, woe is to me, if I preach not the gospel!
En effet, ce n'est pas de prêcher la bonne nouvelle, qui est pour moi un motif de m'enorgueillir, car c'est une nécessité qui m'est imposée; en effet, malheur à moi si je n'annonçais pas la bonne nouvelle!
17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed to me.
Car, si c'est volontairement que j'agis ainsi, je reçois une récompense, mais si c'est involontairement, c'est une administration qui m'est confiée.
18 What is my reward then? Truly that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
Quelle est donc ma récompense? C'est, en prêchant la bonne nouvelle, d'offrir gratuitement l'Évangile, afin de ne pas user de mes droits dans la prédication de l'Évangile.
19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant to all, that I might gain the more.
Car moi, qui suis indépendant de tous, je me suis asservi à tous, afin d'en gagner le plus grand nombre;
20 And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
et j'ai été pour les Juifs comme un Juif, afin de gagner les Juifs; pour ceux qui sont sous la loi comme étant moi-même sous la loi (quoique je ne sois point sous la loi), afin de gagner ceux qui sont sous la loi;
21 To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ, ) that I might gain them that are without law.
pour ceux qui sont sans loi, comme étant moi-même sans loi (quoique je ne sois point sans la loi de Dieu et que je vive au contraire dans la loi de Christ), afin de gagner ceux qui sont sans loi;
22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
j'ai été faible pour les faibles, afin de gagner les faibles; j'ai été tout pour tous, afin d'en sauver sûrement quelques-uns.
23 And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
Or je fais tout à cause de l'Évangile, afin d'en prendre aussi ma part.
24 Know you not that they which run in a race run all, but one receives the prize? So run, that you may obtain.
Ne savez-vous pas que ceux qui courent dans le stade courent tous, il est vrai, mais qu'un seul remporte le prix? Courez de manière à l'obtenir.
25 And every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
Or tout athlète use d'une complète abstinence: ceux-là donc afin de remporter une couronne périssable, mais nous, une impérissable;
26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beats the air:
je cours donc, mais non sans savoir où je vais; je lutte, mais de manière à ne pas battre l'air de mes coups;
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
mais je frappe mon propre corps et je le traite en esclave, de peur qu'après avoir servi de héraut pour les autres, je ne sois moi-même mis de côté.
