1 Chronicles 10
1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
さてペリシテびとはイスラエルと戦ったが、イスラエルの人々がペリシテびとの前から逃げ、ギルボア山で殺されて倒れたので、
2 And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.
ペリシテびとはサウルとその子たちのあとを追い、サウルの子ヨナタン、アビナダブおよびマルキシュアを殺した。
3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.
戦いは激しくサウルにおし迫り、射手の者どもがついにサウルを見つけたので、彼は射手の者どもに傷を負わされた。
4 Then said Saul to his armor bearer, Draw your sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armor bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell on it.
そこでサウルはその武器を執る者に言った、「つるぎを抜き、それをもってわたしを刺せ。さもないと、これらの割礼なき者が来て、わたしをはずかしめるであろう」。しかしその武器を執る者がいたく恐れて聞きいれなかったので、サウルはつるぎをとってその上に伏した。
5 And when his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.
武器を執る者はサウルの死んだのを見て、自分もまたつるぎの上に伏して死んだ。
6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
こうしてサウルと三人の子らおよびその家族は皆ともに死んだ。
7 And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelled in them.
谷にいたイスラエルの人々は皆彼らの逃げるのを見、またサウルとその子らの死んだのを見て、町々をすてて逃げたので、ペリシテびとが来てそのうちに住んだ。
8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
あくる日ペリシテびとは殺された者から、はぎ取るために来て、サウルとその子らのギルボア山に倒れているのを見、
9 And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings to their idols, and to the people.
サウルをはいでその首と、よろいかぶとを取り、ペリシテびとの国の四方に人をつかわして、この良き知らせをその偶像と民に告げさせた。
10 And they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.
そしてサウルのよろいかぶとを彼らの神の家に置き、首をダゴンの神殿にくぎづけにした。
11 And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,
しかしヤベシ・ギレアデの人々は皆ペリシテびとがサウルにしたことを聞いたので、
12 They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
勇士たちが皆立ち上がり、サウルのからだとその子らのからだをとって、これをヤベシに持って来て、ヤベシのかしの木の下にその骨を葬り、七日の間、断食した。
13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;
こうしてサウルは主にむかって犯した罪のために死んだ。すなわち彼は主の言葉を守らず、また口寄せに問うことをして、
14 And inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
主に問うことをしなかった。それで主は彼を殺し、その国を移してエッサイの子ダビデに与えられた。
