Psalms 8

1 For the Leader; upon the Gittith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how glorious is Thy name in all the earth! whose majesty is rehearsed above the heavens.

Az éneklőmesternek a gittithre; Dávid zsoltára. Mi Urunk Istenünk, mily felséges a te neved az egész földön, a ki az egekre helyezted dicsőségedet.

2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast Thou founded strength, because of Thine adversaries; that Thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.

A csecsemők és csecsszopók szájával erősítetted meg hatalmadat a te ellenségeid miatt, hogy a gyűlölködőt és bosszúállót elnémítsd.

3 When I behold Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which Thou hast established;

Mikor látom egeidet, a te újjaidnak munkáját; a holdat és a csillagokat, a melyeket teremtettél:

4 What is man, that Thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that Thou thinkest of him?

Micsoda az ember – mondom – hogy megemlékezel róla? és az embernek fia, hogy gondod van reá?

5 Yet Thou hast made him but little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

Hiszen kevéssel tetted őt kisebbé az Istennél, és dicsőséggel és tisztességgel megkoronáztad őt!

6 Thou hast made him to have dominion over the works of Thy hands; Thou hast put all things under His feet:

Úrrá tetted őt kezeid munkáin, mindent lábai alá vetettél;

7 Sheep and oxen, all of them, yea, and the beasts of the field;

Juhokat és mindenféle barmot, és még a mezőnek vadait is;

8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea; whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

Az ég madarait és a tenger halait, mindent, a mi a tenger ösvényein jár.

9 O LORD, our Lord, how glorious is Thy name in all the earth!

Mi Urunk Istenünk, mily felséges a te neved az egész földön!
