Psalms 59
1 For the Leader; Al-tashheth. A Psalm of David; Michtam; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him. Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God; set me on high from them that rise up against me.
Au maître chantre. Sur « Ne détruis pas ». Ecrit de David, quand Saül envoya, et qu'ils gardèrent la maison, pour le faire mourir. Délivre-moi de mes ennemis, mon Dieu! et mets-moi hors de l'atteinte de mes agresseurs!
2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from the men of blood.
Délivre-moi des hommes malfaisants, et sauve-moi des hommes sanguinaires!
3 For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul; the impudent gather themselves together against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.
Car voici, ils tendent des embûches à mon âme; des violents se liguent contre moi, sans qu'il y ait en moi ni crime, ni péché, Éternel.
4 Without my fault, they run and prepare themselves; awake Thou to help me, and behold.
Je ne suis pas coupable, et ils accourent et se campent: veille! viens à moi, et regarde!
5 Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, arouse Thyself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to any iniquitous traitors. (Selah)
O toi, Éternel, Dieu des armées, Dieu d'Israël, réveille-toi pour châtier tous les peuples! N'épargne aucun de ces traîtres méchants! (Pause)
6 They return at evening, they howl like a dog, and go round about the city.
Ils reviennent le soir, ils hurlent comme les chiens, et ils parcourent la ville.
7 Behold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips: 'For who doth hear?'
Voici, de leurs bouches ils vomissent leurs propos; des glaives sont sur leurs lèvres! « Car, qui est là pour entendre? »
8 But Thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; Thou shalt have all the nations in derision.
Mais toi, Éternel, tu te ris d'eux, et tu te moques de toutes les nations.
9 Because of his strength, I will wait for Thee; for God is my high tower.
Ils sont forts!… Je regarde vers toi; car l'Éternel est mon boulevard.
10 The God of my mercy will come to meet me; God will let me gaze upon mine adversaries.
Mon Dieu me prévient par sa grâce; Dieu fait que mes ennemis réjouissent mes regards.
11 Slay them not, lest my people forget, make them wander to and fro by Thy power, and bring them down, O Lord our shield.
Ne les tue point, de peur que mon peuple n'oublie!… Défais-les par ta puissance, et les précipite, ô toi, notre bouclier, Seigneur!
12 For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, let them even be taken in their pride, and for cursing and lying which they speak.
Il y a péché dans leur bouche à tous les propos de leurs lèvres: qu'ils soient donc pris au piège, pour leur orgueil, et pour les parjures et les mensonges qu'ils profèrent!
13 Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they be no more; and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob, unto the ends of the earth. (Selah)
Détruis, détruis-les dans ton courroux, et qu'ils ne soient plus! afin qu'ils apprennent que Dieu règne en Jacob, jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre. (Pause)
14 And they return at evening, they howl like a dog, and go round about the city;
Qu'ils reviennent le soir, hurlent comme les chiens, et qu'ils parcourent la ville!
15 They wander up and down to devour, and tarry all night if they have not their fill.
Qu'ils rôdent cherchant une curée. ayant passé la nuit sans s'être rassasiés!
16 But as for me, I will sing of Thy strength; yea, I will sing aloud of Thy mercy in the morning; for Thou hast been my high tower, and a refuge in the day of my distress.
Mais moi, je chanterai ta puissance, et dès le matin je dirai les louanges de ta grâce; car tu es mon boulevard, et mon refuge dans mon jour de détresse.
17 O my strength, unto Thee will I sing praises; for God is my high tower, the God of my mercy.
O toi, qui es ma force, je veux te célébrer! car Dieu, mon Dieu bon, est mon boulevard.
