Psalms 124

1 A Song of Ascents; of David. 'If it had not been the LORD who was for us', let Israel now say;

Cantique des pèlerinages. — De David. Si l'Éternel n'eût été pour nous — Israël peut bien le dire. —

2 'If it had not been the LORD who was for us, when men rose up against us,

Si l'Éternel n'eût été pour nous, Quand les hommes se levaient contre nous,

3 Then they had swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

Ils nous auraient engloutis tout vivants, Quand leur colère s'enflammait contre nous.

4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul;

Alors les eaux nous auraient submergés; Un torrent eût passé sur notre âme.

5 Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.'

Alors auraient passé sur notre âme Les flots orgueilleux.

6 Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

Béni soit l'Éternel, Qui ne nous a pas livrés en pâture aux dents de nos ennemis!

7 Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

Notre âme s'est échappée, comme l'oiseau, Du filet de l'oiseleur; Le filet s'est rompu, et nous nous sommes échappés.

8 Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.

Notre aide est dans le nom de l'Éternel, Qui a fait les cieux et la terre.
