Proverbs 6
1 My son, if thou art become surety for thy neighbour, if thou hast struck thy hands for a stranger —
Synu mój, jeśli poręczyłeś za swego bliźniego i dałeś porękę za obcego;
2 Thou art snared by the words of thy mouth, thou art caught by the words of thy mouth —
Związałeś się słowami ust twoich, schwytany jesteś mową twoich ust.
3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, seeing thou art come into the hand of thy neighbour; go, humble thyself, and urge thy neighbour.
Uczyń więc tak, synu mój, uwolnij się, gdy wpadłeś w ręce swego bliźniego; idź, upokórz się i nalegaj na twego bliźniego.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
Nie daj snu swoim oczom i nie pozwól powiekom drzemać.
5 Deliver thyself as a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
Uwolnij się jak sarna z rąk [myśliwego] i jak ptak z ręki ptasznika.
6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise;
Idź do mrówki, leniwcze, przypatrz się jej drogom i bądź mądry;
7 Which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
Chociaż nie ma ona wodza ani przełożonego, ani pana;
8 Provideth her bread in the summer, and gatherest her food in the harvest.
To w lecie przygotowuje swój pokarm i gromadzi w żniwa swą żywność.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
Jak długo będziesz leżał, leniwcze? Kiedy wstaniesz ze swego snu?
10 'Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep' —
Jeszcze trochę snu, trochę drzemania, trochę założenia rąk, aby zasnąć;
11 So shall thy poverty come as a runner, and thy want as an armed man.
A twoje ubóstwo przyjdzie jak podróżny i twój niedostatek jak mąż uzbrojony.
12 A base person, a man of iniquity, is he that walketh with a froward mouth;
Człowiek nikczemny i niegodziwy chodzi z przewrotnością na ustach;
13 That winketh with his eyes, that scrapeth with his feet, that pointeth with his fingers;
Mruga swymi oczyma, mówi swymi nogami, wskazuje swymi palcami;
14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth evil continually; he soweth discord.
Przewrotność [jest] w jego sercu, stale knuje zło [i] sieje niezgodę.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; on a sudden shall he be broken, and that without remedy.
Dlatego nagle spadnie na niego nieszczęście; nagle zostanie złamany i pozbawiony ratunku.
16 There are six things which the LORD hateth, yea, seven which are an abomination unto Him:
Jest sześć rzeczy, których nienawidzi PAN, siedem budzi w nim odrazę:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;
Wyniosłe oczy, kłamliwy język i ręce, które przelewają krew niewinną;
18 A heart that deviseth wicked thoughts, feet that are swift in running to evil;
Serce, które knuje złe myśli; nogi, które spiesznie biegną do zła;
19 A false witness that breatheth out lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Fałszywy świadek, który mówi kłamstwa, i ten, który sieje niezgodę między braćmi.
20 My son, keep the commandment of thy father, and forsake not the teaching of thy mother;
Synu mój, strzeż przykazania twego ojca i nie odrzucaj prawa twojej matki.
21 Bind them continually upon thy heart, tie them about thy neck.
Przywiąż je na zawsze do serca twego i zawieś je sobie na szyi.
22 When thou walkest, it shall lead thee, when thou liest down, it shall watch over thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
Gdy będziesz chodził, poprowadzi cię; gdy zaśniesz, strzec cię będzie, a gdy się obudzisz, będzie mówić do ciebie;
23 For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life;
Bo przykazanie [jest] pochodnią, prawo światłością, a upomnienia do karności są drogą życia;
24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the smoothness of the alien tongue.
Aby cię strzegły przed złą kobietą [i] przed gładkim językiem obcej kobiety.
25 Lust not after her beauty in thy heart; neither let her captivate thee with her eyelids.
Nie pożądaj w twoim sercu jej piękności i niech cię nie łowi swymi powiekami.
26 For on account of a harlot a man is brought to a loaf of bread, but the adulteress hunteth for the precious life.
Bo dla kobiety nierządnej [zubożeje człowiek] o kawałek chleba, a żona cudzołożna czyha na cenne życie.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
Czy może ktoś wziąć ogień w zanadrze, a jego szaty się nie spalą?
28 Or can one walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
Czy może ktoś chodzić po rozżarzonych węglach, a jego nogi się nie poparzą?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not go unpunished.
Tak ten, kto wchodzi do żony swego bliźniego; ktokolwiek ją dotknie, nie będzie bez winy.
30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
Nie pogardza się złodziejem, jeśli kradnie, by nasycić swoją duszę, będąc głodnym;
31 But if he be found, he must restore sevenfold, he must give all the substance of his house.
Ale [jeśli] go złapią, zwróci siedmiokrotnie [albo] odda cały dobytek swego domu.
32 He that committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding; he doeth it that would destroy his own soul.
Lecz kto cudzołoży z kobietą, jest pozbawiony rozsądku; kto tak robi, gubi swoją duszę.
33 Wounds and dishonour shall he get, and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
Znajdzie chłostę i wstyd, a jego hańba nie będzie zmazana.
34 For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
Bo zazdrość rozpala gniew mężczyzny i nie będzie pobłażał w dniu zemsty.
35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
Nie będzie miał względu na żaden okup i nie przyjmie darów, choćbyś najwięcej mu dawał.
