< Proverbs 12 >

1 Whoso loveth knowledge loveth correction; but he that is brutish hateth reproof.
Ko ia ʻoku manako ki he ako ʻoku manako ki he poto: ka ko ia ʻoku fehiʻa ki he valoki ʻoku anga fakamanu ia.
2 A good man shall obtain favour of the LORD; but a man of wicked devices will He condemn.
‌ʻOku finangalo lelei ʻa Sihova ki he tangata angalelei: ka ʻe fakamaau ʻe ia ʻae tangata ʻoku filioʻi kovi.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall never be moved.
‌ʻE ʻikai fokotuʻumaʻu ha tangata ʻe he angahala: ka ʻe ʻikai ngaue ʻae aka ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; but she that doeth shamefully is as rottenness in his bones.
Ko e fefine angalelei ko e tatā ia ki hono husepāniti: ka ko ia ʻoku fakamā ʻoku hangē ia ko e popo ki hono ngaahi hui.
5 The thoughts of the righteous are right; but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
‌ʻOku totonu ʻae ngaahi mahalo ʻae māʻoniʻoni: ka ko e ngaahi fakakaukau ʻae angahala ko e kākā ia.
6 The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
‌ʻOku alea ʻae angahala ke tatali toitoi ke lilingi toto: ka ʻoku fakamoʻui ʻakinautolu ʻe he ngutu ʻoe angatonu.
7 The wicked are overthrown, and are not; but the house of the righteous shall stand.
‌ʻOku tulaki hifo ʻae angahala, pea ʻikai ʻakinautolu: ka ʻe tuʻumaʻu ʻae fale ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
8 A man shall be commended according to his intelligence; but he that is of a distorted understanding shall be despised.
‌ʻE fakamālōʻia, ʻae tangata ʻo fakatatau ki heʻene poto: ka ʻe manukiʻi ia ʻaia ʻoku loto talangataʻa.
9 Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, than he that playeth the man of rank, and lacketh bread.
Ko ia ʻoku fehiʻanekina, ka ʻoku tauhi ia ʻe ia pe, ʻoku lelei lahi hake ia ʻiate ia ʻoku fakaongoongolelei ia, ʻe ia pe, kae masiva meʻakai.
10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
‌ʻOku tokangaʻi ʻe he tangata māʻoniʻoni ʻae moʻui ʻa ʻene manu: ka ko e manavaʻofa ʻae angahala ko e fakamālohi pe ia.
11 He that tilleth his ground shall have plenty of bread; but he that followeth after vain things is void of understanding.
Ko ia ʻoku faʻa keli hono potu kelekele ʻe mākona ia ʻi he meʻakai: ka ko ia ʻoku muimui ki he kakai vale ʻoku masiva ia ʻi he ʻilo.
12 The wicked desireth the prey of evil men; but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
‌ʻOku manako ʻae angahala ki he kolo ʻae kakai angakovi: ka ʻoku tupu ʻae fua mei he aka ʻoe māʻoniʻoni.
13 In the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man; but the righteous cometh out of trouble.
‌ʻOku tauheleʻi ʻae angahala ʻe he talangataʻa ʻa hono loungutu: ka ʻe hao mai ʻae angatonu mei he kovi.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the doings of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
‌ʻE fakamākona ʻae tangata ʻaki ʻae lelei ʻi he fua ʻo hono ngutu: pea ʻe ʻomi ki he tangata ʻae tupu ʻoe ngāue ʻa hono nima.
15 The way of a fool is straight in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.
‌ʻOku totonu ʻae hala ʻoe vale ʻi hono mata ʻoʻona: ka ko ia ʻoku ongoʻi ʻae akonaki ʻoku poto ia.
16 A fool's vexation is presently known; but a prudent man concealeth shame.
‌ʻOku ʻilo leva ʻae ʻita ʻoe vale: ka ʻoku ʻufiʻufi ʻe he tangata fakamākukanga ʻae fakamā.
17 He that breatheth forth truth uttereth righteousness; but a false witness deceit.
Ko ia ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae moʻoni ʻoku fakahā ʻe ia ʻae māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻoku fakahā ʻae kākā ʻe he fakamoʻoni loi.
18 There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.
‌ʻOku ai ʻaia ʻoka lea ʻoku hangē ko e tui ʻaki ha heletā: ka ko e meʻa fakamoʻui ʻae ʻelelo ʻoe poto.
19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
‌ʻE fokotuʻumaʻu ʻo taʻengata ʻae loungutu ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae moʻoni: ka ʻoku ʻosi ʻi he kemo pe taha ʻae ʻelelo ʻoku loi.
20 Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
‌ʻOku ai ʻae kākā ʻi he loto ʻonautolu ʻoku filioʻi kovi: ka ʻoku ai ʻae fiefia kiate kinautolu ʻoku alea ki he melino.
21 There shall no mischief befall the righteous; but the wicked are filled with evil.
‌ʻOku ʻikai ha kovi ʻe hoko ki he angatonu: ka ʻe fakafonu ʻaki ʻae kovi ʻae angahala.
22 Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD; but they that deal truly are His delight.
Ko e meʻa fakalielia kia Sihova ʻae loungutu faʻa loi: ka ʻoku fiefia ia ʻiate kinautolu ʻoku fai fakamoʻomoʻoni.
23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge; but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
‌ʻOku fakafufū ʻe he tangata fakamākukanga ʻa ʻene ʻilo: ka ʻoku fakahā ʻe he loto ʻoe vale ʻae vale.
24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful shall be under tribute.
‌ʻE maʻu ʻae pule ʻe he nima ʻoe faʻa ngāue: ka ʻe moʻulaloa ki he tukuhau ʻaia ʻoku fakapikopiko.
25 Care in the heart of a man boweth it down; but a good word maketh it glad.
Ko e māfasia ʻi he loto ʻoe tangata ʻoku mapelu ai ia: ka ʻoku fakafiefiaʻi ia ʻe he lea lelei.
26 The righteous is guided by his friend; but the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.
‌ʻOku lelei hake ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi hono kaungāʻapi: ka ʻoku kākāʻia ʻae angahala ʻe honau hala.
27 The slothful man shall not hunt his prey; but the precious substance of men is to be diligent.
‌ʻOku ʻikai ke taʻo ʻe he tangata fakapikopiko ʻae meʻa naʻa ne maʻu ʻi heʻene tuli: ka ʻoku mahuʻinga ʻae koloa ʻoe tangata faʻa ngāue.
28 In the way of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
‌ʻOku ai ʻae moʻui ʻi he hala ʻoe māʻoniʻoni, pea ʻi hono ʻalunga ʻoku ʻikai ai ha mate.
