Numbers 5
1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
2 'Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue, and whosoever is unclean by the dead;
Ordonne aux enfants d'Israël qu'ils aient à expulser du camp quiconque aura la lèpre ou un écoulement, et quiconque sera souillé par le contact d'un mort;
3 both male and female shall ye put out, without the camp shall ye put them; that they defile not their camp, in the midst whereof I dwell.'
homme ou femme, vous l'expulserez et le reléguerez au dehors du camp, afin qu'il ne souille pas leurs campements au milieu desquels je réside.
4 And the children of Israel did so, and put them out without the camp; as the LORD spoke unto Moses, so did the children of Israel.
Et ainsi firent les enfants d'Israël; ils les reléguèrent au dehors du camp; les enfants d'Israël se conformèrent à ce que l'Éternel avait dit à Moïse.
5 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
6 Speak unto the children of Israel: When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to commit a trespass against the LORD, and that soul be guilty;
Dis aux enfants d'Israël: Si un homme ou une femme commettent l'un quelconque des péchés des hommes entre eux, faisant ainsi infidélité à l'Éternel, et que par là cette personne tombe en état de délit,
7 then they shall confess their sin which they have done; and he shall make restitution for his guilt in full, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him in respect of whom he hath been guilty.
ils confesseront le péché commis par eux et restitueront l'objet du délit, le principal avec un cinquième en sus, qui sera remis à celui envers lequel ils sont coupables.
8 But if the man have no kinsman to whom restitution may be made for the guilt, the restitution for guilt which is made shall be the LORD'S, even the priest's; besides the ram of the atonement, whereby atonement shall be made for him.
Et si celui-ci n'a point de proche parent auquel l'indemnité puisse être payée, l'indemnité payée revient à l'Éternel, au Prêtre, indépendamment du bélier expiatoire avec lequel on fait la propitiation pour eux.
9 And every heave-offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they present unto the priest, shall be his.
De même tout don de toutes les choses consacrées par les enfants d'Israël, qui seront offertes au Prêtre, lui appartiendra.
10 And every man's hallowed things shall be his: whatsoever any man giveth the priest, it shall be his.
Ce que chacun aura consacré, lui appartiendra. Ce que chacun aura donné au Prêtre lui appartiendra.
11 and the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying:
Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse en ces termes:
12 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them: If any man's wife go aside, and act unfaithfully against him,
Parle aux enfants d'Israël et leur dis: Si la femme d'un homme dévie et lui fait infidélité,
13 and a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband, she being defiled secretly, and there be no witness against her, neither she be taken in the act;
et qu'un autre ait eu avec elle un commerce charnel, et cela à l'insu du mari en cachette duquel elle se sera souillée, sans qu'il y ait de témoin à sa charge et sans qu'elle ait été prise sur le fait;
14 and the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be defiled; or if the spirit of jealousy come upon him, and he be jealous of his wife, and she be not defiled;
et si le mari est saisi d'un mouvement de jalousie qui le rende jaloux de sa femme, et qu'elle se soit vraiment souillée; ou bien s'il est saisi d'un mouvement de jalousie qui le rende jaloux de sa femme, et qu'elle ne se soit point souillée;
15 then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest, and shall bring her offering for her, the tenth part of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it, nor put frankincense thereon; for it is a meal-offering of jealousy, a meal-offering of memorial, bringing iniquity to remembrance.
le mari amènera sa femme au Prêtre, apportant l'oblation de celle-ci pour elle, un dixième d'épha de farine d'orge; il n'y versera point d'huile, et n'y ajoutera point d'encens, car c'est une offrande de jalousie, une offrande commémorative, appelant le souvenir du crime.
16 And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD.
Puis le Prêtre la fera approcher et la mettra en la présence de l'Éternel.
17 And the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel; and of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle the priest shall take, and put it into the water.
Et le Prêtre prendra de l'eau sacrée dans un vase de terre, et le Prêtre prendra de la poussière qui sera sur le sol de la Résidence, et il la jettera dans cette eau.
18 And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and let the hair of the woman's head go loose, and put the meal-offering of memorial in her hands, which is the meal-offering of jealousy; and the priest shall have in his hand the water of bitterness that causeth the curse.
Et le Prêtre mettra la femme en la présence de l'Éternel, et découvrira la tête de la femme, et lui placera dans les mains l'offrande commémorative, l'offrande de jalousie; et dans la main du Prêtre restera l'eau des amertumes, qui appelle la malédiction.
19 And the priest shall cause her to swear, and shall say unto the woman: 'If no man have lain with thee, and if thou hast not gone aside to uncleanness, being under thy husband, be thou free from this water of bitterness that causeth the curse;
Et le Prêtre l'adjurera et dira à la femme: Si aucun homme n'a habité avec toi, si tu ne t'es pas écartée, en te souillant, de la soumission due à ton mari, sois à l'épreuve de cette eau des amertumes qui appelle la malédiction.
20 but if thou hast gone aside, being under thy husband, and if thou be defiled, and some man have lain with thee besides thy husband —
Mais si tu t'es écartée de la soumission due à ton mari et si tu t'es souillée, et si tu as reçu la cohabitation d'un homme, autre que ton mari, …
21 then the priest shall cause the woman to swear with the oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman — the LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to fall away, and thy belly to swell;
qu'ainsi le Prêtre adjure la femme avec le serment d'imprécation, et que le Prêtre dise à la femme: Que l'Éternel te livre à la malédiction et à l'exécration au milieu de ton peuple en mettant l'amaigrissement à tes hanches et le gonflement dans ton sein,
22 and this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, and make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to fall away'; and the woman shall say: 'Amen, Amen.'
et que cette eau qui appelle la malédiction pénètre dans tes entrailles pour gonfler ton sein et amaigrir tes hanches. Et la femme répondra: Ainsi soit-il! Ainsi soit-il!
23 And the priest shall write these curses in a scroll, and he shall blot them out into the water of bitterness.
Et le Prêtre écrira ces imprécations dans un livre et les enlèvera avec l'eau des amertumes,
24 And he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that causeth the curse; and the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her and become bitter.
et il fera boire à la femme l'eau des amertumes qui appelle la malédiction, afin que cette eau des amertumes qui appelle la malédiction pénètre en elle pour lui être amère.
25 And the priest shall take the meal-offering of jealousy out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the meal-offering before the LORD, and bring it unto the altar.
Ensuite le Prêtre prendra des mains de la femme l'offrande de jalousie, et ayant agité l'offrande devant l'Éternel,
26 And the priest shall take a handful of the meal-offering, as the memorial-part thereof, and make it smoke upon the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water.
il l'offrira sur l'Autel. Puis le Prêtre prendra une poignée de l'offrande commémorative, et la brûlera sur l'Autel; après quoi il fera boire à la femme de cette eau.
27 And when he hath made her drink the water, then it shall come to pass, if she be defiled, and have acted unfaithfully against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away; and the woman shall be a curse among her people.
Et quand il aura fait boire à la femme de cette eau, si elle s'est souillée et a fait infidélité à son mari, l'eau qui appelle la malédiction pénétrera en elle pour lui être amère, et son sein se gonflera, et ses hanches s'amaigriront, et cette femme sera livrée à la malédiction au milieu de son peuple.
28 And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be cleared, and shall conceive seed.
Mais si la femme ne s'est point souillée, et qu'elle soit pure, elle restera intacte et féconde.
29 This is the law of jealousy, when a wife, being under her husband, goeth aside, and is defiled;
Telle est la loi touchant la jalousie. Si une femme s'écarte de la soumission due à son mari et se souille,
30 or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon a man, and he be jealous over his wife; then shall he set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.
ou bien dans le cas où un mari serait saisi d'un mouvement de jalousie qui le rendrait jaloux de sa femme, il fera paraître la femme devant l'Éternel, et le Prêtre fera sur elle l'application de cette loi.
31 And the man shall be clear from iniquity, and that woman shall bear her iniquity.
Et le mari ne sera point pris à partie comme coupable, et la femme sera sous le poids de son crime.
