Job 35

1 Moreover Elihu answered and said:

エリフはまた答えて言った、

2 Thinkest thou this to be thy right, or sayest thou: 'I am righteousness before God',

「あなたはこれを正しいと思うのか、あなたは『神の前に自分は正しい』と言うのか。

3 That thou inquirest: 'What advantage will it be unto Thee?' And: 'What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?'

あなたは言う、『これはわたしになんの益があるか、罪を犯したのとくらべてなんのまさるところがあるか』と。

4 I will give thee answer, and thy companions with thee.

わたしはあなたおよび、あなたと共にいるあなたの友人たちに答えよう。

5 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the skies, which are higher than thou.

天を仰ぎ見よ、あなたの上なる高き空を望み見よ。

6 If thou hast sinned, what doest thou against Him? And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto Him?

あなたが罪を犯しても、彼になんのさしさわりがあるか。あなたのとがが多くても、彼に何をなし得ようか。

7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou Him? Or what receiveth He of thy hand?

またあなたは正しくても、彼に何を与え得ようか。彼はあなたの手から何を受けられるであろうか。

8 Thy wickedness concerneth a man as thou art; and thy righteousness a son of man.

あなたの悪はただあなたのような人にかかわり、あなたの義はただ人の子にかかわるのみだ。

9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; they cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

しえたげの多いために叫び、力ある者の腕のゆえに呼ばわる人々がある。

10 But none saith: 'Where is God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night;

しかし、ひとりとして言う者はない、『わが造り主なる神はどこにおられるか、彼は夜の間に歌を与え、

11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?'

地の獣よりも多く、われわれを教え、空の鳥よりも、われわれを賢くされる方である』と。

12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

彼らが叫んでも答えられないのは、悪しき者の高ぶりによる。

13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

まことに神はむなしい叫びを聞かれない。また全能者はこれを顧みられない。

14 Yea, when thou sayest thou canst not see Him — the cause is before Him; therefore wait thou for Him.

あなたが彼を見ないと言う時はなおさらだ。さばきは神の前にある。あなたは彼を待つべきである。

15 And now, is it for nought that He punished in His anger? And hath He not full knowledge of arrogance?

今彼が怒りをもって罰せず、罪とがを深く心にとめられないゆえに

16 But Job doth open his mouth in vanity; he multiplieth words without knowledge.

ヨブは口を開いてむなしい事を述べ、無知の言葉をしげくする」。
