Job 14

1 Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.

Człowiek, urodzony przez kobietę, ma dni niewiele i ma pełno kłopotów;

2 He cometh forth like a flower, and withereth; he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.

Wyrasta jak kwiat i zostaje podcięty, znika jak cień i się nie ostaje.

3 And dost Thou open Thine eyes upon such a one, and bringest me into judgment with Thee?

A jednak na takiego otwierasz swoje oczy i wzywasz mnie przed siebie na sąd.

4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

Któż może wydobyć czystego z nieczystego? Ani jeden.

5 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with Thee, and Thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;

Gdyż jego dni są ustalone, liczba jego miesięcy jest u ciebie; wyznaczyłeś mu kres, którego nie może przekroczyć.

6 Look away from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day.

Odstąp od niego, aby odpoczął, aż zakończy swój dzień jak najemnik.

7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

[Dla] drzewa bowiem jest nadzieja, choć je wytną, że znowu odrośnie, że jego latorośl nie ustanie.

8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

Choć jego korzeń zestarzeje się w ziemi i jego pień umrze w prochu;

9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and put forth boughs like a plant.

[To jednak] gdy poczuje wodę, odrasta i rozpuszcza gałęzie jak sadzonka.

10 But man dieth, and lieth low; yea, man perisheth, and where is he?

Ale człowiek umiera i marnieje; a gdy oddaje ducha, gdzie on jest?

11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the river is drained dry;

Jak ubywa wód z morza i rzeka opada, i wysycha;

12 So man lieth down and riseth not; till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.

Tak jest z człowiekiem, gdy się położy i już nie wstanie; dopóki niebiosa będą trwać, nie ocknie się ani nie będzie obudzony ze swego snu.

13 Oh that Thou wouldest hide me in the nether-world, that Thou wouldest keep me secret, until Thy wrath be past, that Thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! — (Sheol h7585)

Obyś mnie w grobie ukrył i schował, aż twój gniew się uciszy, wyznaczył mi czas i wspomniał na mnie. (Sheol h7585)

14 If a man die, may he live again? All the days of my service would I wait, till my relief should come —

Gdy człowiek umrze, czy [znowu] ożyje? Przez wszystkie dni wyznaczonego mi czasu będę czekał, aż nadejdzie moja zmiana.

15 Thou wouldest call, and I would answer Thee; Thou wouldest have a desire to the work of Thy hands.

Zawołasz, a ja ci odpowiem; zatęsknisz za dziełem swoich rąk.

16 But now Thou numberest my steps, Thou dost not even wait for my sin;

Teraz jednak liczysz moje kroki. Czy nie zważasz na mój grzech?

17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and Thou heapest up mine iniquity.

Mój występek jest zapieczętowany w woreczku, gromadzisz moje nieprawości.

18 And surely the mountain falling crumbleth away, and the rock is removed out of its place;

Doprawdy, góra pada i rozsypuje się, i skała przesuwa się ze swego miejsca.

19 The waters wear the stones; the overflowings thereof wash away the dust of the earth; so Thou destroyest the hope of man.

Wody wydrążają kamienie, ulewa podrywa to, co wyrośnie z prochu ziemi, a ty nadzieję człowieka obracasz wniwecz.

20 Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth; Thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.

Stale pokonujesz go, a on odchodzi; zmieniasz jego oblicze i odprawiasz go.

21 His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he regardeth them not.

Jego synowie darzeni są szacunkiem, lecz on o tym nie wie; żyją w pogardzie, lecz na to nie zważa.

22 But his flesh grieveth for him, and his soul mourneth over him.

Ale jego własne ciało odczuwa ból, a jego dusza w nim płacze.
