Job 11
1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said:
そこでナアマびとゾパルは答えて言った、
2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be accounted right?
「言葉が多ければ、答なしにすまされるだろうか。口の達者な人は義とされるだろうか。
3 Thy boastings have made men hold their peace, and thou hast mocked, with none to make thee ashamed;
あなたのむなしい言葉は人を沈黙させるだろうか。あなたがあざけるとき、人はあなたを恥じさせないだろうか。
4 And thou hast said: 'My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in Thine eyes.'
あなたは言う、『わたしの教は正しい、わたしは神の目に潔い』と。
5 But oh that God would speak, and open His lips against thee;
どうぞ神が言葉を出し、あなたにむかってくちびるを開き、
6 And that He would tell thee the secrets of wisdom, that sound wisdom is manifold! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.
知恵の秘密をあなたに示されるように。神はさまざまの知識をもたれるからである。それであなたは知るがよい、神はあなたの罪よりも軽くあなたを罰せられることを。
7 Canst thou find out the deep things of God? Canst thou attain unto the purpose of the Almighty?
あなたは神の深い事を窮めることができるか。全能者の限界を窮めることができるか。
8 It is high as heaven; what canst thou do? Deeper than the nether-world; what canst thou know? (Sheol h7585)
それは天よりも高い、あなたは何をなしうるか。それは陰府よりも深い、あなたは何を知りうるか。 (Sheol h7585)
9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
その量は地よりも長く、海よりも広い。
10 If He pass by, and shut up, or gather in, then who can hinder Him?
彼がもし行きめぐって人を捕え、さばきに召し集められるとき、だれが彼をはばむことができよう。
11 For He knoweth base men; and when He seeth iniquity, will He not then consider it?
彼は卑しい人間を知っておられるからだ。彼は不義を見る時、これに心をとめられぬであろうか。
12 But an empty man will get understanding, when a wild ass's colt is born a man.
しかし野ろばの子が人として生れるとき、愚かな者も悟りを得るであろう。
13 If thou set thy heart aright, and stretch out thy hands toward Him —
もしあなたが心を正しくするならば、神に向かって手を伸べるであろう。
14 If iniquity be in thy hand, put it far away, and let not unrighteousness dwell in thy tents —
もしあなたの手に不義があるなら、それを遠く去れ、あなたの天幕に悪を住まわせてはならない。
15 Surely then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear;
そうすれば、あなたは恥じることなく顔をあげることができ、堅く立って、恐れることはない。
16 For thou shalt forget thy misery; thou shalt remember it as waters that are passed away;
あなたは苦しみを忘れ、あなたのこれを覚えることは、流れ去った水のようになる。
17 And thy life shall be clearer than the noonday; though there be darkness, it shall be as the morning.
そしてあなたの命は真昼よりも光り輝き、たとい暗くても朝のようになる。
18 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt look about thee, and shalt take thy rest in safety.
あなたは望みがあるゆえに安んじ、保護されて安らかにいこうことができる。
19 Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.
あなたは伏してやすみ、あなたを恐れさせるものはない。多くの者はあなたの好意を求めるであろう。
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall have no way to flee, and their hope shall be the drooping of the soul.
しかし悪しき者の目は衰える。彼らは逃げ場を失い、その望みは息の絶えるにひとしい」。
