Jeremiah 48
1 Of Moab. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled; Kiriathaim is put to shame, it is taken; Misgab is put to shame and dismayed.
A Moab. Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d'Israël: Malheur à Nabo, car elle est ravagée; Cariathaïm est couverte de honte, elle est prise; la forteresse est couverte de honte, elle est abattue;
2 The praise of Moab is no more; in Heshbon they have devised evil against her: 'Come, and let us cut her off from being a nation.' Thou also, O Madmen, shalt be brought to silence; the sword shall pursue thee.
elle n'est plus, la gloire de Moab! A Hésebon on médite contre lui le mal: Allons et exterminons-le d'entre les nations! Toi aussi, Madmen, tu seras réduite au silence, l'épée marche derrière toi.
3 Hark! a cry from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction!
Des cris partent de Horonaïm; dévastation et grande ruine!
4 Moab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.
Moab est brisé; ses petits enfants font entendre des cris.
5 For by the ascent of Luhith with continual weeping shall they go up; for in the going down of Horonaim they have heard the distressing cry of destruction.
Oui! à la montée de Luith il y a des pleurs, on la gravit en pleurant; oui! à la descente de Horonaïm, on entend les cris de détresse.
6 Flee, save your lives, and be like a tamarisk in the wilderness.
Fuyez, sauvez vos vies! Qu’elles soient comme une bruyère dans la lande!
7 For, because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou also shalt be taken; and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity, his priests and his princes together.
Car, puisque tu as mis ta confiance en tes ouvrages et en tes trésors, toi aussi tu seras conquis; et Chamos ira en exil, avec ses prêtres et ses princes, tous ensemble.
8 And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape; the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed; as the LORD hath spoken.
Le dévastateur viendra contre toutes les villes, et pas une ville n'échappera; la vallées sera ruinée, et le plateau saccagé, comme l'a dit Yahweh.
9 Give wings unto Moab, for she must fly and get away; and her cities shall become a desolation, without any to dwell therein.
Donnez des ailes à Moab, car il faut qu'il s'envole; ses villes seront dévastées, sans qu'il y ait d'habitant.
10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD with a slack hand, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
Maudit soit celui qui fait mollement l'œuvre du Seigneur! Maudit celui qui refuse le sang à son épée!
11 Moab hath been at ease from his youth, and he hath settled on his lees, and hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity; therefore his taste remaineth in him, and his scent is not changed.
Moab a été tranquille depuis sa jeunesse; il a reposé sur sa lie; il n'a pas été vidé d'un vase dans un autre, et il n'est pas allé en captivité. Aussi son goût lui est-il resté, et son parfum ne s'est pas altéré.
12 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will send unto him them that tilt up, and they shall tilt him up; and they shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles in pieces.
C’est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, — oracle Yahweh, où je lui enverrai des transvaseurs qui le transvaseront; ils videront ses vases, et ils briseront ses cruches.
13 And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth-el their confidence.
Et Moab aura honte de Chamos, comme la maison d'Israël a eu honte de Béthel, en qui était sa confiance.
14 How say ye: 'We are mighty men, and valiant men for the war'?
Comment pouvez-vous dire: " Nous sommes des guerriers, des hommes vaillants au combat? "
15 Moab is spoiled, and they are gone up into her cities, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.
Moab est ravagé, ses villes montent en fumée, l'élite de ses jeunes gens descend pour la boucherie; — oracle du roi, dont le nom est Yahweh des armées.
16 The calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.
La ruine de Moab approche, son malheur vient en grande hâte.
17 Bemoan him, all ye that are round about him, and all ye that know his name; say: 'How is the strong staff broken, the beautiful rod!'
Consolez-le, vous tous, ses voisins, et vous tous qui connaissez son nom, dites: " Comment a été brisé un bâton si fort, un sceptre si magnifique? "
18 O thou daughter that dwellest in Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab is come up against thee, he hath destroyed thy strongholds.
Descends de ta gloire et assieds-toi sur la terre aride, habitante, fille de Dibon; car le dévastateur de Moab est monté contre toi, il a renversé tes remparts.
19 O inhabitant of Aroer, stand by the way, and watch; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth; say: 'What hath been done?'
Tiens-toi sur le chemin, et observe, habitante d'Aroër; interroge celui qui fuit et celle qui s'échappe; dis: " Qu'est-il arrivé? —
20 Moab is put to shame, for it is dismayed; wail and cry; tell ye it in Arnon, that Moab is spoiled.
" Moab est confus, car il est renversé. Poussez des gémissements et des cris! Annoncez sur l'Arnon que Moab est ravagé! "
21 And judgment is come upon the country of the Plain; upon Holon, and upon Jahzah, and upon Mephaath;
Un jugement est venu sur le pays de la plaine, sur Hélon, sur Jasa, sur Méphaath,
22 and upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim;
sur Dibon, sur Nabo, sur Beth-Deblathaïm,
23 and upon Kiriathaim, and upon Beth-gamul, and upon Beth-meon;
sur Cariathaïm, sur Beth-Gamul, sur Beth-Maon,
24 and upon Kerioth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far or near.
sur Carioth, sur Bosra et sur toutes les villes du pays de Moab, éloignées et proches.
25 The horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith the LORD.
La corne de Moab est abattue, et son bras est brisé, — oracle de Yahweh.
26 Make ye him drunken, for he magnified himself against the LORD; and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.
Enivrez-le; car il s'est élevé contre Yahweh! que Moab se vautre dans son vomissement, et qu'il devienne un objet de risée, lui aussi!
27 For was not Israel a derision unto thee? Was he found among thieves? For as often as thou speakest of him, thou waggest the head.
Israël n'a-t-il pas été pour toi un objet de risée? L'a-t-on surpris avec des voleurs, pour que, chaque fois que tu parlés de lui, tu hoches la tête?
28 O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock; and be like the dove that maketh her nest in the sides of the pit's mouth.
Abandonnez les villes; demeurez dans les rochers, habitants de Moab, et soyez comme la colombe qui fait son nid au-dessus du précipice béant.
29 We have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud; his loftiness, and his pride, and his haughtiness, and the assumption of his heart.
Nous avons entendu l'orgueil de Moab, le très orgueilleux, sa hauteur, son orgueil, sa fierté, et la fierté de son cœur.
30 I know his arrogancy, saith the LORD, that it is ill-founded; his boastings have wrought nothing well-founded.
Moi aussi je connais, — oracle de Yahweh, sa jactance, et ses vains discours, et ses œuvres vaines.
31 Therefore will I wail for Moab; yea, I will cry out for all Moab; for the men of Kir-heres shall my heart moan.
C'est pourquoi je me lamente sur Moab; sur tout Moab je pousse des cris; on gémit sur les gens de Qir-Hérès.
32 With more than the weeping of Jazer will I weep for thee, O vine of Sibmah; thy branches passed over the sea, they reached even to the sea of Jazer; upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage the spoiler is fallen.
Plus encore que sur Jazer, je pleure sur toi, vigne de Sabama. Tes sarments dépassaient la mer, ils touchaient à la mer de Jazer. Sur ta récolte et sur ta vendange le dévastateur s'est jeté.
33 And gladness and joy is taken away from the fruitful field, and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to cease from the winepresses; none shall tread with shouting; the shouting shall be no shouting.
La joie et l'allégresse ont disparu des vergers et de la terre de Moab; j'ai fait tarir le vin des cuves; on ne le foule plus au bruit des hourrahs; le hourrah n'est plus le hourrah.
34 From the cry of Heshbon even unto Elealeh, even unto Jahaz have they uttered their voice, from Zoar even unto Horonaim, a heifer of three years old; for the Waters of Nimrim also shall be desolate.
A cause du cri de Hésébon jusqu'à Eléalé; jusqu'à Jasa, ils font entendre leur cri; de Segor jusqu'à Horonaïm, jusqu'à Eglath-Sélisia; Car même les eaux de Nemrim seront taries.
35 Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offereth in the high place, and him that offereth to his gods.
Je veux, en finir avec Moab, — oracle de Yahweh, avec celui qui monte à son haut-lieu et offre de l’encens à son dieu.
36 Therefore my heart moaneth for Moab like pipes, and my heart moaneth like pipes for the men of Kir-heres; therefore the abundance that he hath gotten is perished.
C'est pourquoi mon cœur au sujet de Moab, gémit comme une flûte, oui, mon cœur au sujet des gens de Qir-Hérès, gémit comme une flûte. C'est pourquoi le gain qu'ils avaient fait est perdu.
37 For every head is bald, and every beard clipped; upon all the hands are cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.
Car toute tête est rasée, et toute barbe coupée; sur toutes les mains il y a des incisions; et sur les reins des sacs.
38 On all the housetops of Moab and in the broad places thereof there is lamentation every where; for I have broken Moab like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith the LORD.
Sur tous les toits de Moab et sur ses places, ce ne sont que lamentations; car j'ai brisé Moab comme un vase dont on ne veut plus, — oracle de Yahweh.
39 'How is it broken down!' wail ye! 'How hath Moab turned the back with shame!' So shall Moab become a derision and a dismay to all that are round about him.
Comme il est brisé! Gémissez! Comme Moab a honteusement tourné le dos! Moab est devenu un objet de risée, et d'épouvante pour tous ses voisins.
40 For thus saith the LORD: Behold, he shall swoop as a vulture, and shall spread out his wings against Moab.
Car ainsi parle Yahweh: Voici qu'il prend son vol comme l'aigle, il étend ses ailes sur Moab.
41 The cities are taken, and the strongholds are seized, and the heart of the mighty men of Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
Carioth est prise, les forteresses sont emportées, et le cœur des guerriers de Moab est, en ce jour, comme le cœur d'une femme en travail.
42 And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against the LORD.
Moab est exterminé du rang des peuples, parce qu'il s'est élevé contre Yahweh.
43 Terror, and the pit, and the trap, are upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD.
Epouvante, fosse et filet, sont sur toi, habitant de Moab! — oracle de Yahweh.
44 He that fleeth from the terror shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the trap; for I will bring upon her, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.
Celui qui fuit devant l'objet d'épouvante tombera dans la fosse, et celui qui remontera de la fosse sera pris au filet; car je vais faire venir sur lui, sur Moab, l'année de sa visitation, — oracle de Yahweh.
45 In the shadow of Heshbon the fugitives stand without strength; for a fire is gone forth out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and it devoureth the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones.
A l'ombre de Hésébon ils s'arrêtent, les fuyards à bout de forces; mais il est sorti un feu de Hésébon, et une flamme du milieu de Séhon; elle a dévoré les flancs de Moab et le crâne des fils du tumulte.
46 Woe unto thee, O Moab! The people of Chemosh is undone; for thy sons are taken away captive, and thy daughters into captivity.
Malheur à toi, Moab! Il est perdu, le peuple de Chamos; car tes fils sont emmenés en exil, et tes filles en captivité.
47 Yet will I turn the captivity of Moab in the end of days, saith the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
Mais je ramènerai les captifs de Moab; à la fin des jours, — oracle de Yahweh. Jusqu'ici le jugement de Moab.
