Isaiah 47
1 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
Descends, assieds-toi dans la poussière, vierge, fille de Babylone; assieds-toi par terre, sans trône, fille des Chaldéens; car on ne t'appellera plus la délicate, la voluptueuse.
2 Take the millstones, and grind meal; remove thy veil, strip off the train, uncover the leg, pass through the rivers.
Prends la meule, et mouds de la farine; ôte ton voile; relève les pans de ta robe, mets à nu tes jambes, pour passer les fleuves.
3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen; I will take vengeance, and will let no man intercede.
Que ta nudité soit découverte, qu'on voie ta honte! Je veux me venger, je n'épargnerai personne.
4 Our Redeemer, the LORD of hosts is His name, The Holy One of Israel.
— Notre Rédempteur se nomme Yahweh des armées, le Saint d'Israël! —
5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for thou shalt no more be called the mistress of kingdoms.
Assieds-toi en silence, entre dans les ténèbres, fille des Chaldéens; car on ne t'appellera plus la souveraine des royaumes.
6 I was wroth with My people, I profaned Mine inheritance, and gave them into thy hand; thou didst show them no mercy; upon the aged hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.
J'étais irrité contre mon peuple; j'ai laissé profaner mon héritage et je les ai livrés entre tes mains... Tu ne leur fis point de miséricorde; sur le vieillard tu as fait peser lourdement ton joug.
7 And thou saidst: 'For ever shall I be mistress'; so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the end thereof.
Tu as dit: " Je suis souveraine à jamais! " de sorte que tu n'as pas pris garde à ces choses, tu n'as pas songé à la fin de tout cela.
8 Now therefore hear this, thou that art given to pleasures, that sittest securely, that sayest in thy heart: 'I am, and there is none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children';
Et maintenant, écoute ceci, voluptueuse, assise en sécurité, toi qui disais en ton cœur: " Moi, et rien que moi! Je ne serai jamais veuve, ni privée de mes enfants. "
9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood; in their full measure shall they come upon thee, for the multitude of thy sorceries, and the great abundance of thine enchantments.
Ces deux choses t'arriveront, soudain, en un même jour, et la perte de tes enfants et le veuvage; elles viendront sur toi dans leur plénitude, malgré la multitude de tes sortilèges, malgré la puissance de tes enchantements.
10 And thou hast been secure in thy wickedness, thou hast said: 'None seeth me'; thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thy heart. 'I am, and there is none else beside me.'
Tu te confiais dans ta malice; tu disais: " Nul ne me voit! " Ta sagesse et ta science, ce sont elles qui t'ont séduite, alors que tu disais en ton cœur: " Moi, et rien que moi! "
11 Yet shall evil came upon thee; thou shalt not know how to charm it away; and calamity shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it away; and ruin shall come upon thee suddenly, before thou knowest.
Et le malheur viendra sur toi sans que tu puisses le conjurer; la calamité fondra sur toi, sans que tu puisses la détourner; et la ruine viendra sur toi soudain, sans que tu t'en doutes.
12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.
Reste donc avec tes enchantements, et avec la multitude de tes sortilèges, auxquels tu t'es adonnée dès ta jeunesse! Peut-être en pourras-tu tirer profit, peut-être inspireras-tu la terreur!
13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels; let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from the things that shall come upon thee.
Tu t'es fatiguée à force de consultations; qu'ils se présentent donc et qu'ils te sauvent, ceux qui mesurent le ciel, qui observent les astres, qui font connaître à chaque nouvelle lune ce qui doit t'arriver.
14 Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame; it shall not be a coal to warm at, nor a fire to sit before.
Voici qu'ils sont devenus comme le chaume: le feu les consumera, ils ne sauveront pas leur vie de la puissance de la flamme; ce n'est point une braise pour se chauffer, ni un feu pour s'asseoir devant.
15 Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured; they that have trafficked with thee from thy youth shall wander every one to his quarter; there shall be none to save thee.
Tels sont pour toi ceux pour qui tu t'es fatiguée; ceux avec qui tu trafiquas dès ta jeunesse: ils fuient chacun de son côté; il n'y a personne qui te sauve!
