Isaiah 36

1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.

Und es begab sich, im vierzehnten Jahr des Königs Hiskia zog der König zu Assyrien, Sanherib, herauf wider alle festen Städte Judas und gewann sie.

2 And the king of Assyria sent Rab-shakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fullers' field.

Und der König zu Assyrien sandte den Rabsake von Lachis gen Jerusalem zu dem Könige Hiskia mit großer Macht. Und er trat an die Wasserröhren des obern Teichs am Wege bei dem Acker des Färbers.

3 Then came forth unto him Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.

Und es ging zu ihm heraus Eliakim, der Sohn Hilkias, der Hofmeister, und Sebena, der Kanzler, und Joah, der Sohn Assaphs, der Schreiber.

4 And Rab-shakeh said unto them: 'Say ye now to Hezekiah: Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria: What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

Und der Erzschenke sprach zu ihnen: Saget doch dem Hiskia: So spricht der große König, der König zu Assyrien: Was ist das für ein Trotz, darauf du dich verlässest?

5 I said: It is but vain words; for counsel and strength are for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?

Ich achte, du lässest dich bereden, daß du noch Rat und Macht wissest zu streiten. Auf wen verlässest du denn dich, daß du mir bist abfällig worden?

6 Behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it; so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.

Verlässest du dich auf den zerbrochenen Rohrstab Ägypten, welcher, so jemand sich darauf lehnet, gehet er ihm in die Hand und durchbohret sie? Also tut Pharao, der König zu Ägypten, allen, die sich auf ihn verlassen.

7 But if thou say unto me: We trust in the LORD our God; is not that He, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and to Jerusalem: Ye shall worship before this altar?

Willst du aber mir sagen: Wir verlassen uns auf den HERRN, unsern Gott? Ist's denn nicht der, welches Höhen und Altäre der Hiskia hat abgetan und zu Juda und Jerusalem gesagt: Vor diesem Altar sollt ihr anbeten?

8 Now therefore, I pray thee, make a wager with my master, the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.

Wohlan, so nimm's an mit meinem HERRN, dem Könige zu Assyrien! Ich will dir zweitausend Rosse geben; laß sehen, ob du bei dir könnest ausrichten, die darauf reiten.

9 How then canst thou turn away the face of one captain, even of the least of my master's servants? yet thou puttest thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen!

Wie willst du denn bleiben vor einem Hauptmann, der geringsten Diener einem meines HERRN? Und du verlässest dich auf Ägypten um der Wagen und Reiter willen.

10 And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? The LORD said unto me: Go up against this land, and destroy it.'

Dazu meinest du, daß ich ohne den HERRN bin heraufgezogen in dies Land, dasselbige zu verderben? Ja, der HERR sprach zu mir: Zeuch hinauf in dies Land und verderbe es!

11 Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rab-shakeh: 'Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Aramean language, for we understand it; and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.'

Aber Eliakim und Sebena und Joah sprachen zum Erzschenken: Lieber, rede mit deinen Knechten auf syrisch, denn wir verstehen's wohl; und rede nicht auf jüdisch mit uns vor den Ohren des Volks, das auf der Mauer ist.

12 But Rab-shakeh said: 'Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?'

Da sprach der Erzschenke: Meinest du, daß mein HERR mich zu deinem HERRN oder zu dir gesandt habe, solche Worte zu reden, und nicht vielmehr zu den Männern, die auf der Mauer sitzen, daß sie samt euch ihren eigenen Mist fressen und ihren Harn saufen?

13 Then Rab-shakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said: 'Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

Und der Erzschenke stund und rief laut auf jüdisch und sprach: Höret die Worte des großen Königs, des Königs zu Assyrien!

14 Thus saith the king: Let not Hezekiah beguile you, for he will not be able to deliver you;

So spricht der König: Laßt euch Hiskia nicht betrügen; denn er kann euch nicht erretten.

15 neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying: The LORD will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

Und laßt euch Hiskia nicht vertrösten auf den HERRN, daß er sagt: Der HERR wird uns erretten, und diese Stadt wird nicht in die Hand des Königs zu Assyrien gegeben werden.

16 Hearken not to Hezekiah; for thus saith the king of Assyria: Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig-tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;

Gehorchet Hiskia nicht! Denn so spricht der König zu Assyrien: Tut mir zu Danke und gehet zu mir heraus, so sollt ihr ein jeglicher von seinem Weinstock und von seinem Feigenbaum essen und aus seinem Brunnen trinken,

17 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

bis daß ich komme und hole euch in ein Land, wie euer Land ist, ein Land, da Korn und Most innen ist, ein Land, da Brot und Weinberge innen sind.

18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying: The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

Laßt euch Hiskia nicht bereden, daß er sagt: Der HERR wird uns erlösen. Haben auch der Heiden Götter ein jeglicher sein Land errettet von der Hand des Königs zu Assyrien?

19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

Wo sind die Götter zu Hamath und Arpad? Wo sind die Götter zu Sepharvaim? Haben sie auch Samaria errettet von meiner Hand?

20 Who are they among all the gods of these countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'

Welcher unter allen Göttern dieser Lande hat sein Land errettet von meiner Hand, daß der HERR sollte Jerusalem erretten von meiner Hand?

21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, saying: 'Answer him not.'

Sie schwiegen aber stille und antworteten ihm nichts; denn der König hatte geboten und gesagt: Antwortet ihm nichts!

22 Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rab-shakeh.

Da kamen Eliakim, der Sohn Hilkias, der Hofmeister, und Sebena, der Kanzler, und Joah, der Sohn Assaphs, der Schreiber, mit zerrissenen Kleidern und zeigten ihm an die Worte des Erzschenken.
