Ecclesiastes 8
1 Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom maketh his face to shine, and the boldness of his face is changed.
Wer ist so weise? und wer kann das auslegen? Die Weisheit des Menschen erleuchtet sein Angesicht; wer aber frech ist, der ist feindselig,
2 I counsel thee: keep the king's command, and that in regard of the oath of God.
Ich halte das Wort des Königs und den Eid Gottes.
3 Be not hasty to go out of his presence; stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him.
Eile nicht, zu gehen von seinem Angesicht, und bleibe nicht in böser Sache; denn er tut, was ihn gelüstet.
4 Forasmuch as the king's word hath power; and who may say unto him: 'What doest thou?'
In des Königs Wort ist Gewalt, und wer mag zu ihm sagen: Was machst du?
5 Whoso keepeth the commandment shall know no evil thing; and a wise man's heart discerneth time and judgment.
Wer das Gebot hält, der wird nichts Böses erfahren; aber eines Weisen Herz weiß Zeit und Weise.
6 For to every matter there is a time and judgment; for the evil of man is great upon him.
Denn ein jeglich Vornehmen hat seine Zeit und Weise; denn des Unglücks des Menschen ist viel bei ihm.
7 For he knoweth not that which shall be; for even when it cometh to pass, who shall declare it unto him?
Denn er weiß nicht, was gewesen ist; und wer will ihm sagen, was werden soll?
8 There is no man that hath power over the wind to retain the wind; neither hath he power over the day of death; and there is no discharge in war; neither shall wickedness deliver him that is given to it.
Ein Mensch hat nicht Macht über den Geist, dem Geist zu wehren; und hat nicht Macht zur Zeit des Sterbens und wird nicht losgelassen im Streit; und das gottlose Wesen errettet den Gottlosen nicht.
9 All this have I seen, even applied my heart thereto, whatever the work that is done under the sun; what time one man had power over another to his hurt.
Das habe ich alles gesehen und gab mein Herz auf alle Werke, die unter der Sonne geschehen. Ein Mensch herrschet zuzeiten über den andern zu seinem Unglück.
10 And so I saw the wicked buried, and they entered into their rest; but they that had done right went away from the holy place, and were forgotten in the city; this also is vanity.
Und da sah ich Gottlose, die begraben waren, die gegangen waren und gewandelt in heiliger Stätte, und waren vergessen in der Stadt, daß sie so getan hatten. Das ist auch eitel.
11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil;
Weil nicht bald geschieht ein Urteil über die bösen Werke, dadurch wird das Herz der Menschen voll, Böses zutun.
12 because a sinner doeth evil a hundred times, and prolongeth his days — though yet I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, that fear before Him;
Ob ein Sünder hundertmal Böses tut und doch lange lebt, so weiß ich doch, daß es wohlgehen wird denen, die Gott fürchten, die sein Angesicht scheuen.
13 but it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow, because he feareth not before God.
Denn es wird dem Gottlosen nicht wohlgehen und wie ein Schatten nicht lange leben, die sich vor Gott nicht fürchten.
14 There is a vanity which is done upon the earth: that there are righteous men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there are wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous — I said that this also is vanity.
Es ist eine Eitelkeit, die auf Erden geschieht. Es sind Gerechte, denen gehet es, als hätten sie Werke der Gottlosen, und sind Gottlose, denen gehet es, als hätten sie Werke der Gerechten. Ich sprach: Das ist auch eitel.
15 So I commended mirth, that a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry, and that this should accompany him in his labour all the days of his life which God hath given him under the sun.
Darum lobte ich die Freude, daß der Mensch nichts Besseres hat unter der Sonne denn essen und trinken und fröhlich sein; und solches werde ihm von der Arbeit sein Leben lang, das ihm Gott gibt unter der Sonne.
16 When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth — for neither day nor night do men see sleep with their eyes —
Ich gab mein Herz, zu wissen die Weisheit und zu schauen die Mühe, die auf Erden geschieht, daß auch einer weder Tag noch Nacht den Schlaf siehet mit seinen Augen.
17 then I beheld all the work of God, that man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun; because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea further, though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it.
Und ich sah alle Werke Gottes. Denn ein Mensch kann das Werk nicht finden, das unter der Sonne geschieht; und je mehr der Mensch arbeitet zu suchen, je weniger er findet. Wenn er gleich spricht: Ich bin weise und weiß es, so kann er's doch nicht finden.
