2 Chronicles 23

1 And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.

El año séptimo Joiadá cobró ánimo y concertó un pacto con los centuriones Azarías, hijo de Joram; Ismael, hijo de Jeohanán; Azarías, hijo de Obed; Maasías, hijo de Adaías, y Elisafat, hijo de Sicrí;

2 And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers' houses of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

y ellos, recorriendo (el país de) Judá, congregaron a los levitas de todas las ciudades de Judá, y a los jefes de las casas paternas de Israel, que vinieron a Jerusalén.

3 And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them: 'Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the LORD hath spoken concerning the sons of David.

Y toda la asamblea hizo alianza con el rey en la Casa de Dios; y (Joiadá) les dijo: “He aquí al hijo del rey que ha de reinar, como Yahvé lo ha dicho de los hijos de David.

4 This is the thing that ye shall do: a third part of you, that come in on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;

Lo que habéis de hacer es esto: La tercera parte de vosotros, así sacerdotes como levitas, que entráis el sábado, servirá de porteros en las entradas;

5 and a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.

otra tercera parte, en la casa del rey; y otra tercera parte, en la puerta de Jesod; y todo el pueblo estará en los atrios de la Casa de Yahvé.

6 But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall come in, for they are holy; but all the people shall keep the charge of the LORD.

Nadie podrá entrar en la Casa de Yahvé sino los sacerdotes, y aquellos levitas que estén de servicio; estos podrán entrar, por estar consagrados, pero todo el pueblo tiene que respetar el precepto de Yahvé.

7 And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever cometh into the house, let him be slain; and be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.'

Los levitas rodearán al rey por todas partes, cada uno con las armas en su mano, y cualquiera que penetrare en la Casa morirá. Solo ellos acompañarán al rey cuando entrare y cuando saliere.”

8 So the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded; and they took every man his men, those that were to come in on the sabbath, with those that were to go out on the sabbath; for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.

Los levitas y todo Judá hicieron exactamente lo que había mandado el sacerdote Joiadá. Tomó cada uno sus hombres, así los que entraban el sábado, como los que salían el sábado; pues el sacerdote Joiadá no había despedido ninguna clase (de levitas).

9 And Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds the spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which were in the house of God.

El sacerdote Joiadá entregó a los centuriones las lanzas y los escudos, grandes y pequeños, del rey David, que se hallaban en la Casa de Dios,

10 And he set all the people, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, by the king round about.

y apostó a todo el pueblo, cada uno con sus armas en la mano, desde el lado derecho de la Casa hasta el lado izquierdo de la Casa, entre el altar y la Casa, para que rodeasen al rey.

11 Then they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown and the insignia, and made him king; and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him; and they said: 'Long live the king.'

Sacaron entonces al hijo del rey, y pusieron sobre él la diadema y el (libro del) Testimonio. Así le proclamaron rey; y Joiadá y sus hijos le ungieron y gritaron: “¡Viva el rey!”

12 And when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the LORD;

Al oír Atalía los gritos del pueblo que corría y aclamaba al rey, vino a la Casa de Yahvé, donde estaba el pueblo

13 and she looked, and, behold, the king stood on his platform at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets; the singers also played on instruments of music, and led the singing of praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said: 'Treason, treason.'

y miró, y he aquí que el rey estaba de pie sobre su estrado, a la entrada, y los capitanes y las trompetas estaban junto al rey, en tanto que todo el pueblo del país se alegraba y tocaba las trompetas. Los cantores, por su parte, dirigían, con instrumentos de música, los cánticos de alabanza. Entonces Atalía rasgó sus vestidos y gritó: “¡Traición, traición!”

14 And Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them: 'Have her forth between the ranks; and whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword'; for the priest said: 'Slay her not in the house of the LORD.'

Mas el sacerdote Joiadá llamó a los centuriones, que estaban al frente de las tropas, y les dijo: “¡Hacedla salir por entre las filas, y el que la siguiere sea muerto a cuchillo!” Porque había dicho el sacerdote: “¡No la matéis en la Casa de Yahvé!”

15 So they made way for her; and she went to the entry of the horse gate to the king's house; and they slew her there.

Le dieron paso, y cuando ella llegó a la entrada de la puerta de los caballos, cerca de la casa del rey, allí la mataron.

16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, and all the people, and the king, that they should be the LORD'S people.

Entonces Joiadá hizo alianza entre él, todo el pueblo y el rey, de que ellos serían el pueblo de Yahvé.

17 And all the people went to the house of Baal, and broke it down, and broke his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

Después penetró todo el pueblo en el templo de Baal y lo derribaron; hicieron pedazos sus altares y sus imágenes, y mataron a Matán, sacerdote de Baal, ante los altares.

18 And Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD under the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt-offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the direction of David.

Luego ordenó Joiadá los oficios en la Casa de Yahvé por medio de los sacerdotes y levitas, que David había distribuido en la Casa de Yahvé, para que, conforme a lo escrito en la Ley de Moisés, se ofrecieran los holocaustos, acompañados de regocijo y cánticos, con arreglo a las disposiciones de David.

19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that none that was unclean in any thing should enter in.

Puso también porteros junto a las puertas de la Casa de Yahvé, para que no entrase ninguno que por cualquier causa fuese inmundo.

20 And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD; and they came through the upper gate unto the king's house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.

Después tomó a los centuriones, a los nobles, a los dirigentes del pueblo, y al pueblo entero del país; y haciendo descender al rey de la Casa de Yahvé entraron por la puerta superior en la casa del rey, donde lo sentaron sobre el trono del reino.

21 So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet; and they slew Athaliah with the sword.

Todo el pueblo del país hizo fiesta, y la ciudad quedó tranquila; pues Atalía había sido muerta a espada.
