1 Samuel 26
1 And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying: 'Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?'
Les Ziphéens vinrent auprès de Saül à Gabaa, et dirent: « David est caché sur la colline de Hachila, à l'est de la lande. »
2 Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.
Saül se leva et descendit au désert de Ziph avec trois mille hommes d'élite d'Israël, pour chercher David au désert de Ziph.
3 And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.
Saül campa sur la colline de Hachila, à l'est de la lande, près du chemin, et David demeurait dans le désert. S'étant aperçut que Saül marchait à sa recherche au désert,
4 David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come of a certainty.
David envoya des espions et apprit que Saül était réellement arrivé.
5 And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched; and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host; and Saul lay within the barricade, and the people pitched round about him.
David se leva et vint au lieu où Saül était campé. David vit l'endroit où était couché Saül, avec Abner, fils de Ner, chef de son armée: — or Saül couchait au milieu du camp, et le peuple était campé autour de lui. —
6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying: 'Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp?' And Abishai said: 'I will go down with thee.'
S'adressant donc à Achimélech, le Héthéen, et à Abisaï, fils de Sarvia et frère de Joab, David dit: « Qui veut descendre avec moi au camp vers Saül. » Et Abisaï répondit: « Moi, je descendrai avec toi. »
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night; and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the barricade, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Abner and the people lay round about him.
David et Abisaï arrivèrent de nuit vers le peuple, et voici que Saül était couché au milieu du camp et dormait, sa lance fichée en terre à son chevet; Abner et le peuple étaient couchés autour de lui.
8 Then said Abishai to David: 'God hath delivered up thine enemy into thy hand this day; now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear to the earth at one stroke, and I will not smite him the second time.'
Abisaï dit à David: « Dieu a enfermé aujourd'hui ton ennemi entre tes mains; maintenant, je te prie, laisse-moi le frapper de la lance et le clouer en terre d'un seul coup, sans que j'aie à y revenir. »
9 And David said to Abishai: 'Destroy him not; for who can put forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed, and be guiltless?'
Mais David dit à Abisaï: « Ne le tue pas! Car qui porterait la main sur l'oint de Yahweh et resterait impuni? »
10 And David said: 'As the LORD liveth, nay, but the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall go down into battle, and be swept away.
Et David dit: « Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant! Ce sera seulement Yahweh qui le frappera; ou bien son jour arrivera et il mourra, ou bien il descendra à la guerre et il périra;
11 The LORD forbid it me, that I should put forth my hand against the LORD'S anointed; but now take, I pray thee, the spear that is at his head, and the cruse of water and let us go.'
mais que Yahweh me préserve de porter la main sur l'oint de Yahweh! Maintenant, prends la lance qui est à son chevet, avec la cruche d'eau, et allons-nous-en. »
12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's head; and they got them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither did any awake; for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.
Et David prit la lance et la cruche d'eau qui étaient au chevet de Saül, et ils s'en allèrent. Personne ne vit, personne ne sut, personne ne se réveilla, car ils dormaient tous, Yahweh ayant fait tomber sur eux un profond assoupissement.
13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of the mountain afar off; a great space being between them.
David passa de l'autre côté, et se tint au loin sur le sommet de la montagne; un grand espace les séparait.
14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying: 'Answerest thou not, Abner?' Then Abner answered and said: 'Who art thou that criest to the king?'
Et David cria au peuple et à Abner, fils de Ner, en disant: « Ne répondras-tu pas, Abner! » Abner répondit en disant: « Qui es-tu, toi qui cries vers le roi? »
15 And David said to Abner: 'Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept watch over thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.
David dit à Abner: « N'es-tu pas un homme? Et qui est ton pareil en Israël? Pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas gardé le roi, ton seigneur? Car quelqu'un du peuple est venu pour tuer le roi, ton seigneur.
16 This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye deserve to die, because ye have not kept watch over your lord, the LORD'S anointed. And now, see, where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his head.'
Ce que tu as fait là n'est pas bien. Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant! Vous avez mérité la mort, pour n'avoir pas gardé votre maître, l'oint de Yahweh. Regarde maintenant où sont la lance du roi et la cruche d'eau qui était à son chevet. »
17 And Saul knew David's voice, and said: 'Is this thy voice, my son David?' And David said: 'It is my voice, my lord, O king.'
Saül reconnut la voix de David et dit: « Est-ce bien ta voix, mon fils David? » Et David répondit: « C'est ma voix, ô roi, mon seigneur. »
18 And he said: 'Wherefore doth my lord pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in my hand?
Il ajouta: « Pourquoi mon seigneur poursuit-il son serviteur? Qu'ai-je fait, et quel crime ma main a-t-elle commis?
19 Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If it be the LORD that hath stirred thee up against me, let Him accept an offering; but if it be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day that I should not cleave unto the inheritance of the LORD, saying: Go, serve other gods.
Que le roi, mon seigneur, daigne maintenant écouter les paroles de ton serviteur: si c'est Yahweh qui t'excite contre moi, qu'il agrée le parfum d'une offrande; mais si ce sont des hommes, qu'ils soient maudits devant Yahweh, puisqu'ils m'ont chassé maintenant, pour m'ôter ma place de l'héritage de Yahweh, en disant: Va servir des dieux étrangers!
20 Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth away from the presence of the LORD; for the king of Israel is come out to seek a single flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.'
Et maintenant que mon sang ne tombe pas sur la terre, loin de la face de Yahweh! Car le roi d'Israël s'est mis en marche pour chercher une puce, comme on poursuivrait une perdrix dans les montagnes. »
21 Then said Saul: 'I have sinned; return, my son David; for I will no more do thee harm, because my life was precious in thine eyes this day; behold, I have played the fool and erred exceedingly.'
Saül dit: « J'ai péché; reviens, mon fils David, car je ne te ferai plus de mal, puisqu'en ce jour ma vie a été précieuse à tes yeux. Voilà que j'ai agi en insensé et j'ai fait une grande faute. »
22 And David answered and said: 'Behold the king's spear! let then one of the young men come over and fetch it.
David répondit: « Voici la lance, ô roi; que l'un de tes jeunes gens vienne la prendre.
23 And the LORD will render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; forasmuch as the LORD delivered thee into my hand to-day, and I would not put forth my hand against the LORD'S anointed.
Yahweh rendra à chacun selon sa justice et sa fidélité; car Yahweh t'avait livré aujourd'hui entre mes mains, et je n'ai pas voulu porter la main sur l'oint de Yahweh.
24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.'
Voici que, comme ta vie a été aujourd'hui d'un grand prix à mes yeux, ainsi ma vie sera d'un grand prix aux yeux de Yahweh, et il me délivrera de toute angoisse! »
25 Then Saul said to David: 'Blessed be thou, my son David; thou shalt both do mightily, and shalt surely prevail.' So David went his way, and Saul returned to his place.
Saül dit à David: « Sois béni mon fils, David! Tu réussiras certainement dans tes entreprises. » David continua son chemin, et Saül s'en retourna chez lui.
