1 Samuel 22

1 David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave of Adullam; and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.

David s’en alla donc de là, et il s’enfuit dans la caverne d’Odollam. Lorsque ses frères l’eurent appris et toute la maison de son père, ils descendirent vers lui en cet endroit.

2 And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became captain over them; and there were with him about four hundred men.

Et se réunirent auprès de lui tous ceux qui étaient dans la détresse, accablés de dettes, et mécontents; et il devint leur chef; et il y eut avec lui environ quatre cents hommes.

3 And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab; and he said unto the king of Moab: 'Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.'

Et David partit de là pour Maspha qui est en Moab; et il dit au roi de Moab: Que mon père et ma mère, je vous prie, demeurent avec vous, jusqu’à ce que je sache ce que fera Dieu à mon égard.

4 And he brought them before the king of Moab; and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the stronghold.

Et il les laissa auprès du roi de Moab, et ils demeurèrent auprès de lui pendant tous les jours que David fut dans la forteresse,

5 And the prophet Gad said unto David: 'Abide not in the stronghold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah.' Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hereth.

Cependant Gad le prophète dit à David: Ne demeure point dans la forteresse, pars, et va dans la terre de Juda. Et David partit, et il vint dans la forêt de Haret.

6 And Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him; now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk-tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him.

Et Saül apprit que David avait paru, ainsi que des hommes qui étaient avec lui. Or, lorsque Saül demeurait à Gabaa, et qu’il était dans le bois qui est à Rama, tenant sa lance à la main, et que tous ses serviteurs l’environnaient,

7 And Saul said unto his servants that stood about him: 'Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds;

Il dit à ses serviteurs qui étaient auprès de lui: Ecoutez maintenant, enfants de Jémini: Est-ce que le fils d’Isaï vous donnera à tous des champs et des vignes, et vous fera-t-il tous tribuns et centurions,

8 that all of you have conspired against me, and there was none that disclosed it to me when my son made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or discloseth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?'

Puisque vous avez tous conspiré contre moi, et qu’il n’y a personne qui me renseigne; surtout quand mon fils même a fait alliance avec le fils d’Isaï? Il n’en est pas d’entre vous qui plaigne mon sort, ni qui m’avertisse; à cause que mon fils a suscité contre moi mon serviteur, qui me dresse des embûches jusqu’aujourd’hui.

9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who was set over the servants of Saul, and said: 'I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

Mais, répondant, Doëg l’Iduméen qui était présent, et le premier entre les serviteurs de Saul: J’ai vu, dit-il, le fils d’Isaï à Nobé, chez Achimélech, le prêtre, fils d’Achitob,

10 And he inquired of the LORD for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.'

Lequel a consulté le Seigneur pour lui, lui a donné des vivres, et lui a même donné le glaive de Goliath le Philistin.

11 Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob; and they came all of them to the king.

Le roi donc envoya chercher Achimélech, le prêtre, fils d’Achitob, et toute la maison de son père, des prêtres qui étaient à Nobé; lesquels tous vinrent vers le roi.

12 And Saul said: 'Hear now, thou son of Ahitub.' And he answered: 'Here I am, my lord.'

Et Saül dit à Achimélech: Ecoute, fils d’Achitob. Et Achimélech répondit: Je suis présent, seigneur.

13 And Saul said unto him: 'Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?'

Et Saül lui dit: Pourquoi as-tu conspiré contre moi, toi et le fils d’Isaï? Pourquoi lui as-tu donné des pains et un glaive, et as-tu consulté Dieu pour lui, afin qu’il s’élevât contre moi, insidiateur persévérant jusqu’aujourd’hui?

14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said: 'And who among all thy servants is so trusted as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and giveth heed unto thy bidding, and is honourable in thy house?

Et Achimélech, répondant au roi, dit: Qui parmi vos serviteurs est comme David, fidèle, gendre du roi, marchant à votre commandement, et honorable dans votre maison?

15 Have I to-day begun to inquire of God for him? be it far from me; let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for thy servant knoweth nothing of all this, less or more.'

Est-ce aujourd’hui que j’ai commencé à consulter Dieu pour lui? Loin de moi! Que le roi ne soupçonne point son serviteur, ni toute la maison de mon père d’une pareille chose; car votre serviteur ne sait de cette affaire rien de petit ou de grand.

16 And the king said: 'Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house.'

Et le roi dit: Tu mourras de mort, Achimélech, toi et toute la maison de ton père.

17 And the king said unto the guard that stood about him: 'Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me.' But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.

Puis le roi dit aux gardes qui l’environnaient: Tournez-vous, et tuez les prêtres du Seigneur; car leur main est avec David; sachant qu’il s’était enfui, ils ne me l’ont point déclaré. Mais les serviteurs du roi ne voulurent pas étendre leurs mains sur les prêtres du Seigneur.

18 And the king said to Doeg: 'Turn thou, and fall upon the priests.' And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and he slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.

Alors le roi dit à Doëg: Tourne-toi, et jette-toi sur les prêtres. Et, s’étant tourné, Doëg l’Iduméen se jeta sur les prêtres, et il tua en ce jour-là quatre-vingt-cinq hommes vêtus d’un éphod de lin.

19 And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen and asses and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

Ensuite il frappa Nobé, la cité des prêtres, du tranchant du glaive, égorgeant hommes et femmes, petits enfants et les enfants à la mamelle, bœuf, âne et brebis.

20 And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.

Mais un des fils d’Achimélech, dont le nom était Abiathar, s’étant échappé, s’enfuit vers David.

21 And Abiathar told David that Saul had slain the LORD'S priests.

Et il lui annonça que Saül avait tué les prêtres du Seigneur.

22 And David said unto Abiathar: 'I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul; I have brought about the death of all the persons of thy father's house.

Et David dit à Abiathar: Je savais en ce jour que puisque Doëg l’Iduméen était là, il avertirait certainement Saül: c’est moi qui suis coupable de la mort de toutes les âmes de la maison de ton père.

23 Abide thou with me, fear not; for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life; for with me thou shalt be in safeguard.'

Demeure avec moi, et ne crains point: si quelqu’un cherche mon âme, il cherchera aussi ton âme, et tu seras sauvé avec moi.
