1 Samuel 21

1 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said unto him: 'Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?'

Se levantó David y se fue, y Jonatán se volvió a la ciudad.

2 And David said unto Ahimelech the priest: 'The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me: Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee; and the young men have I appointed to such and such a place.

David llegó a Nob, al sacerdote Aquimelec, el cual lo recibió con miedo, y le dijo: “¿Por qué estás solo, y nadie viene contigo?”

3 Now therefore what is under thy hand? five loaves of bread? give them in my hand, or whatsoever there is present.'

Respondió David al sacerdote Aquimelec: “El rey me ha dado un encargo y me ha dicho: «Nadie sepa nada del asunto a que te envío y que te he encargado». Por eso he citado a los muchachos a tal y tal lugar.

4 And the priest answered David, and said: 'There is no common bread under my hand, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.'

Y ahora, ¿qué tienes a mano? Dame cinco panes en mi mano, o cualquier cosa que hallares.”

5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him: 'Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days; when I came out, the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was but a common journey; how much more then to-day, when there shall be holy bread in their vessels?'

El sacerdote contestó a David, diciendo: “Tan común no tengo a mano, mas hay pan santo, si es que tu gente se ha abstenido de mujeres.”

6 So the priest gave him holy bread; for there was no bread there but the showbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away. —

Respondió David al sacerdote y le dijo: “Te aseguro que nos hemos abstenido de mujeres ayer y anteayer, desde cuando salí; los cuerpos de mi gente están puros; y aunque el viaje es profano, sin embargo se encuentran ahora santificados sus cuerpos.”

7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul. —

Entonces el sacerdote le dio pan santo, pues no había allí (otro) pan, sino solamente el pan de la proposición, que había sido retirado de la presencia de Yahvé, para reemplazarlo por pan caliente en el día en que fue retirado.

8 And David said unto Ahimelech: 'And is there peradventure here under thy hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste.'

Estaba allí aquel mismo día un hombre de los siervos de Saúl, que se había encerrado delante de Yahvé; se llamaba Doeg, idumeo, el mayoral de los pastores de Saúl.

9 And the priest said: 'The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the vale of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if thou wilt take that, take it; for there is no other save that here.' And David said: 'There is none like that; give it me.'

Luego preguntó David a Aquimelec: “¿No tienes aquí en tu poder una lanza o espada?, pues ni mi espada, ni (otra de) mis armas he traído conmigo, por cuanto urgía la orden del rey.”

10 And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

Dijo el sacerdote: “He aquí la espada de Goliat el filisteo, a quien tú mataste en el valle del Terebinto. Está envuelta en el manto, detrás del efod. Si quieres tomarla, tómala, que aquí no hay otra sino esta.” Respondió David: “No hay otra semejante a ella; dámela.”

11 And the servants of Achish said unto him: 'Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying: Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?'

Se levantó David, y huyendo aquel día de Saúl, se fue a Aquís, rey de Gat.

12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

Mas los siervos dijeron a Aquís: “¿No es este aquel David, el rey del país? ¿No es este aquel de quien cantaban en medio de danzas: Mató Saúl sus mil, pero David sus diez mil?”

13 And he changed his demeanour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

David guardó estas palabras en su corazón y tuvo mucho miedo de Aquís, rey de Gat.

14 Then said Achish unto his servants: 'Lo, when ye see a man that is mad, wherefore do ye bring him to me?

Fingió ante ellos haber perdido su juicio y aparentaba estar loco en medio de ellos, escribiendo garabatos en las hojas de las puertas y dejando correr la saliva por su barba.

15 Do I lack madmen, that ye have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?'

Dijo entonces Aquís a sus siervos: “Ya veis que este hombre es un loco. ¿Por qué me lo habéis traído? ¿Acaso me faltan locos? ¿Cómo es, pues, que habéis traído este para que haga locuras delante de mí? ¿Y un hombre tal habrá de entrar en mi casa?”
