Titus 3
1 Pvt them in remembrance that they bee subiect to the Principalities and powers, and that they bee obedient, and ready to euery good woorke,
Rappelle aux fidèles qu'ils doivent être soumis aux autorités, aux magistrats, leur obéir, être prêts à toute bonne oeuvre,
2 That they speake euill of no man, that they be no fighters, but soft, shewing all meekenesse vnto all men.
ne médire de personne, éviter les querelles, être conciliants, et se montrer d'une parfaite douceur envers tous les hommes.
3 For wee our selues also were in times past vnwise, disobedient, deceiued, seruing the lustes and diuers pleasures, liuing in maliciousnes and enuie, hatefull, and hating one another:
Car nous étions autrefois, nous aussi, insensés, rebelles, égarés, asservis toutes sortes de convoitises et à la volupté, vivant dans la méchanceté et dans l'envie, dignes d'être haïs et nous haïssant les uns les autres.
4 But when that bountifulnesse and that loue of God our Sauiour toward man appeared,
Mais, lorsque la bonté de Dieu, notre Sauveur, et son amour envers les hommes, ont été manifestés,
5 Not by the woorkes of righteousnesse, which we had done, but according to his mercie he saued vs, by the washing of the newe birth, and the renewing of the holy Ghost,
— il nous a sauvés, non pas à cause des oeuvres de justice que nous aurions accomplies, mais en vertu de sa miséricorde, par le baptême de la régénération et le renouvellement du Saint-Esprit
6 Which he shed on vs aboundantly, through Iesus Christ our Sauiour,
qu'il a répandu sur nous avec abondance, par Jésus-Christ, notre Sauveur.
7 That we, being iustified by his grace, should be made heires according to the hope of eternall life. (aiōnios g166)
C'est ainsi que, justifiés par sa grâce, nous sommes devenus, en espérance, les héritiers de la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
8 This is a true saying, and these thinges I will thou shouldest affirme, that they which haue beleeued God, might be carefull to shewe foorth good woorkes. These things are good and profitable vnto men.
Cette parole est certaine, et je veux que tu établisses fortement ces choses, afin que ceux qui ont cru en Dieu aient soin de s'appliquer à de bonnes oeuvres: voilà ce qui est bon et utile aux hommes.
9 But stay foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and brawlings about the Lawe: for they are vnprofitable and vaine.
Mais écarte les questions folles, les généalogies, les querelles et les disputes au sujet de la loi; car elles sont inutiles et vaines.
10 Reiect him that is an heretike, after once or twise admonition,
Évite l'hérétique après un premier et second avertissement,
11 Knowing that hee that is such, is peruerted, and sinneth, being damned of his owne selfe.
sachant qu'un tel homme est perverti et qu'il pèche, étant condamné par sa propre conscience.
12 When I shall send Artemas vnto thee, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to mee vnto Nicopolis: for I haue determined there to winter.
Lorsque je t'aurai envoyé Artémas ou Tychique, hâte-toi de venir me rejoindre à Nicopolis; car j'ai résolu d'y passer l'hiver.
13 Bring Zenas the expounder of the Lawe, and Apollos on their iourney diligently, that they lacke nothing.
Veille avec soin à ce que Zénas, le docteur de la loi, ainsi qu'Apollos, ne manquent de rien à leur départ.
14 And let ours also learne to shewe foorth good woorkes for necessary vses, that they be not vnfruitfull.
Les nôtres aussi doivent apprendre à s'appliquer à de bonnes oeuvres pour subvenir aux besoins urgents, afin de ne pas demeurer stériles.
15 All that are with mee, salute thee. Greete them that loue vs in the faith. Grace bee with you all, Amen. ‘To Titus, elect the first bishoppe of the Church of the Cretians, written from Nicopolis in Macedonia.’
Tous ceux qui sont avec moi te saluent. Salue ceux qui nous aiment dans la foi. Que la grâce soit avec vous tous!
