Ruth 3
1 Afterward Naomi her mother in lawe said vnto her, My daughter, shall not I seeke rest for thee, that thou mayest prosper?
Naomi, sua suocera, le disse: “Figliuola mia, io vorrei assicurare il tuo riposo perché tu fossi felice.
2 Now also is not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maides thou wast? beholde, he winoweth barly to night in the floore.
Ora Boaz, con le serve del quale tu sei stata, non è egli nostro parente? Ecco, stasera deve ventolar l’orzo nell’aia.
3 Wash thy sellfe therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment vpon thee, and get thee downe to the floore: let not the man know of thee, vntill he haue left eating and drinking.
Làvati dunque, ungiti, vèstiti, e scendi all’aia, ma non ti far riconoscere da lui, prima ch’egli abbia finito di mangiare e di bere.
4 And when he shall sleepe, marke the place where he layeth him downe, and go, and vncouer the place of his feete, and lay thee downe, and he shall tell thee what thou shalt doe.
E quando se n’andrà a dormire, osserva il luogo dov’egli dorme; poi va’, alzagli la coperta dalla parte de’ piedi, e mettiti lì a giacere; ed egli ti dirà quello che tu debba fare”.
5 And she answered her, All that thou biddest me, I will doe.
Ruth le rispose: “Farò tutto quello che dici”.
6 So she went downe vnto the floore, and did according to all that her mother in lawe bade her.
E scese all’aia, e fece tutto quello che la suocera le aveva ordinato.
7 And when Boaz had eaten, and drunken, and cheared his heart, he went to lie downe at the end of the heape of corne, and she came softly, and vncouered the place of his feet, and lay downe.
Boaz mangiò e bevve e, col cuor allegro, se n’andò a dormire presso al monte delle mannelle. Allora ella venne pian piano, gli alzò la coperta dalla parte de’ piedi, e si mise a giacere.
8 And at midnight the man was afraide and caught holde: and loe, a woman lay at his feete.
Verso mezzanotte, quell’uomo si svegliò di soprassalto, si voltò, ed ecco che una donna gli giaceva ai piedi.
9 Then he sayd, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmayd: spread therefore the wing of thy garment ouer thine handmayd: for thou art the kinsman.
“Chi sei tu?” le disse. Ed ella rispose: “Sono Ruth tua serva; stendi il lembo del tuo mantello sulla tua serva, perché tu hai il diritto di riscatto”.
10 Then sayd he, Blessed be thou of the Lord, my daughter: thou hast shewed more goodnes in the latter end, then at the beginning, in as much as thou followedst not yong men, were they poore or rich.
Ed egli a lei: “Sii benedetta dall’Eterno, figliuola mia! La tua bontà d’adesso supera quella di prima, giacché non sei andata dietro a de’ giovani, poveri o ricchi.
11 And now, my daughter, feare not: I will doe to thee all that thou requirest: for all the citie of my people doeth knowe, that thou art a vertuous woman.
Ora dunque, non temere, figliuola mia; io farò per te tutto quello che dici, poiché tutti qui sanno che sei una donna virtuosa.
12 And now, it is true that I am thy kinsman, howbeit there is a kinsman neerer then I.
Or e vero ch’io ho il diritto di riscatto; ma ve n’è un altro che t’è parente più prossimo di me.
13 Tarie to night, and when morning is come, if he will doe the duetie of a kinsman vnto thee, well, let him doe the kinsmans duetie: but if he will not doe the kinsmans part, then wil I doe the duetie of a kinsman, as the Lord liueth: sleepe vntill the morning.
Passa qui la notte; e domattina, se quello vorrà far valere il suo diritto su di te, va bene, lo faccia pure; ma se non gli piacerà di far valere il suo diritto, io farò valere il mio, com’è vero che l’Eterno vive! Sta’ coricata fino al mattino”.
14 And she lay at his feete vntill the morning: and she arose before one could know another: for he sayd, Let no man knowe, that a woman came into the floore.
Ed ella rimase coricata ai suoi piedi fino alla mattina; poi si alzò, prima che due si potessero riconoscere l’un l’altro; giacché Boaz avea detto: “Nessuno sappia che questa donna e venuta nell’aia!”
15 Also he sayd, Bring the sheete that thou hast vpon thee, and holde it. And when she helde it, he measured sixe measures of barly, and layde them on her, and she went into the citie.
Poi aggiunse: “Porta qua il mantello che hai addosso, e tienlo con ambe le mani”. Ella lo tenne su, ed egli vi misuro dentro sei misure d’orzo, e glielo mise in ispalla; poi se ne venne in città.
16 And when she came to her mother in law, she sayd, Who art thou, my daughter? And she tolde her all that the man had done to her,
Ruth tornò dalla sua suocera, che le disse: “Sei tu, figliuola mia?” Ed ella le raccontò tutto quanto quell’uomo avea fatto per lei,
17 And said, These sixe measures of barly gaue he me: for he sayd to me, Thou shalt not come emptie vnto thy mother in lawe.
e aggiunse: “M’ha anche dato queste sei misure d’orzo; perché m’ha detto: “Non devi tornare dalla tua suocera con le mani vuote”.
18 Then sayd she, My daughter, sit still, vntill thou knowe how the thing will fall: for the man wil not be in rest, vntill he hath finished the matter this same day.
E Naomi disse: “Rimani qui, figliuola mia, finché tu vegga come la cosa riuscirà; poiché quest’uomo non si darà posa, finché non abbia oggi stesso terminato quest’affare”.
