Proverbs 22
1 A good name is to be chosen aboue great riches, and louing fauour is aboue siluer and aboue golde.
विशाल निधि से कहीं अधिक योग्य है अच्छा नाम; तथा स्वर्ण और चांदी से श्रेष्ठ है आदर सम्मान!
2 The rich and poore meete together: the Lord is the maker of them all.
सम्पन्न और निर्धन के विषय में एक समता है: दोनों ही के सृजनहार याहवेह ही हैं.
3 A prudent man seeth the plague, and hideth himselfe: but the foolish goe on still, and are punished.
चतुर व्यक्ति जोखिम को देखकर छिप जाता है, किंतु अज्ञानी आगे ही बढ़ता जाता है और यातना सहता है.
4 The rewarde of humilitie, and the feare of God is riches, and glory, and life.
विनम्रता तथा याहवेह के प्रति श्रद्धा का प्रतिफल होता है; धन संपदा, सम्मान और जीवन.
5 Thornes and snares are in the way of the frowarde: but he that regardeth his soule, will depart farre from them.
कुटिल व्यक्ति के मार्ग पर बिछे रहते हैं कांटे और फंदे, किंतु जो कोई अपने जीवन के प्रति सावधान रहता है, स्वयं को इन सबसे दूर ही दूर रखता है.
6 Teache a childe in the trade of his way, and when he is olde, he shall not depart from it.
अपनी संतान को उसी जीवनशैली के लिए तैयार कर लो, जो सुसंगत है, वृद्ध होने पर भी वह इससे भटकेगा नहीं.
7 The rich ruleth the poore, and the borower is seruant to the man that lendeth.
निर्धन पर धनाढ्य अधिकार कर लेता है, तथा ऋणी महाजन का दास होकर रह जाता है.
8 He that soweth iniquitie, shall reape affliction, and the rodde of his anger shall faile.
जो कोई अन्याय का बीजारोपण करता है, विपत्ति की उपज एकत्र करता है, तब उसके क्रोध की लाठी भी विफल सिद्ध होती है.
9 He that hath a good eye, he shalbe blessed: for he giueth of his bread vnto the poore.
उदार व्यक्ति धन्य रहेगा, क्योंकि वह निर्धन को अपने भोजन में सहभागी कर लेता है.
10 Cast out the scorner, and strife shall go out: so contention and reproche shall cease.
यदि छिछोरे और ठट्ठा करनेवाले को सभा से बाहर कर दिया जाए; तो विवाद, कलह और परनिंदा सभी समाप्त हो जाएंगे.
11 Hee that loueth purenesse of heart for the grace of his lippes, the King shalbe his friend.
जिन्हें निर्मल हृदय की महत्ता ज्ञात है, जिनकी बातें मधुर हैं, वे राजा के प्रिय पात्र हो जाएंगे.
12 The eyes of the Lord preserue knowledge: but hee ouerthroweth the wordes of the transgressour.
याहवेह की दृष्टि ज्ञान की रक्षा करती है, किंतु वह कृतघ्न और विश्वासघाती के वक्तव्य को मिटा देते हैं.
13 The slouthfull man saith, A lyon is without, I shall be slaine in the streete.
आलसी कहता है, “बाहर सिंह है! बाहर सड़क पर जाने पर मेरी मृत्यु निश्चित है!”
14 The mouth of strage women is as a deepe pit: he with whom the Lord is angry, shall fall therein.
चरित्रहीन स्त्री का मुख गहरे गड्ढे-समान है; याहवेह द्वारा शापित व्यक्ति ही इसमें जा गिरता है.
15 Foolishnesse is bounde in the heart of a childe: but the rodde of correction shall driue it away from him.
बालक की प्रकृति में ही मूर्खता बंधी रहती है, अनुशासन की छड़ी से ही यह उससे दूर की जाती है.
16 Hee that oppresseth the poore to increase him selfe, and giueth vnto the riche, shall surely come to pouertie.
जो अपनी संपत्ति में वृद्धि पाने के उद्देश्य से निर्धन पर अंधेर करने, तथा धनाढ्य को उपहार देने का परिणाम होता है; निर्धनता!
17 Incline thine eare, and heare the wordes of the wise, and apply thine heart vnto my knowledge.
अत्यंत ध्यानपूर्वक बुद्धिमानों का प्रवचन सुनो; और मेरे ज्ञान की बातों को मन में बसा लो,
18 For it shalbe pleasant, if thou keepe them in thy bellie, and if they be directed together in thy lippes.
क्योंकि यह करना तुम्हारे लिए सुखदायी होगा, यदि ये तुम्हारे मन में बसे हुए होंगे, यदि ये सभी तुम्हें मुखाग्र होंगे.
19 That thy confidence may be in the Lord, I haue shewed thee this day: thou therefore take heede.
मैं यह सब तुम पर, विशेष रूप से तुम पर इसलिये प्रकट कर रहा हूं, कि तुम्हारा भरोसा याहवेह पर अटल रहे;
20 Haue not I written vnto thee three times in counsels and knowledge,
विचार करो, क्या मैंने परामर्श तथा ज्ञान के ये तीस नीति सूत्र इस उद्देश्य से नहीं लिखे कि
21 That I might shewe thee the assurance of the wordes of trueth to answere the wordes of trueth to them that sende to thee?
तुम्हें यह बोध रहे कि सुसंगत और सत्य क्या है, और तुम अपने प्रेषकों को उपयुक्त उत्तर दे सको?
22 Robbe not the poore, because hee is poore, neither oppresse the afflicted in iudgement.
किसी निर्धन को इसलिये लूटने न लगो, कि वह निर्धन है, वैसे ही किसी पीड़ित को न्यायालय ले जाकर गुनहगार न बनाना,
23 For the Lord will defende their cause, and spoyle the soule of those that spoyle them.
क्योंकि याहवेह पीड़ित के पक्ष में खड़े होंगे, और उनके प्राण का बदला लेंगे.
24 Make no friendship with an angrie man, neither goe with the furious man,
किसी क्रोधी व्यक्ति को मित्र न बनाना, और न किसी शीघ्र क्रोधी व्यक्ति के किसी कार्य में सहयोगी बनना.
25 Least thou learne his wayes, and receiue destruction to thy soule.
कहीं ऐसा न हो कि तुम भी उसी के समान बन जाओ और स्वयं किसी फंदे में जा फंसो.
26 Be not thou of them that touch the hand, nor among them that are suretie for debts.
तुम उनके जैसे न बनना, जो किसी की ज़मानत लेते हैं, जो किसी ऋणी के ऋण का दायित्व लेते हैं.
27 If thou hast nothing to paye, why causest thou that he should take thy bed from vnder thee?
यदि तुम्हारे पास भुगतान करने के लिए कुछ नहीं है, तो साहूकार तो तुमसे तुम्हारा बिछौना छीन लेगा.
28 Thou shalt not remooue the ancient bounds which thy fathers haue made.
अपने पूर्वजों द्वारा स्थापित सीमा-चिन्हों को तुम कभी न हटाना.
29 Thou seest that a diligent man in his businesse standeth before Kings, and standeth not before the base sort.
क्या आप किसी को अपने काम में कुशल दिखते हैं? उस व्यक्ति का स्थान राजा की उपस्थिति में है; वे नीचे श्रेणी के अधिकारियों के सामने सेवा नहीं करेंगे.
