Proverbs 22
1 A good name is to be chosen aboue great riches, and louing fauour is aboue siluer and aboue golde.
Προτιμότερον όνομα καλόν παρά πλούτη μεγάλα, χάρις αγαθή παρά αργύριον και χρυσίον.
2 The rich and poore meete together: the Lord is the maker of them all.
Πλούσιος και πτωχός συναπαντώνται· ο Κύριος είναι ο Ποιητής αμφοτέρων τούτων.
3 A prudent man seeth the plague, and hideth himselfe: but the foolish goe on still, and are punished.
Ο φρόνιμος προβλέπει το κακόν και κρύπτεται· οι άφρονες όμως προχωρούσι και τιμωρούνται.
4 The rewarde of humilitie, and the feare of God is riches, and glory, and life.
Η αμοιβή της ταπεινώσεως και του φόβου του Κυρίου είναι πλούτος και δόξα και ζωή.
5 Thornes and snares are in the way of the frowarde: but he that regardeth his soule, will depart farre from them.
Τρίβολοι και παγίδες είναι εν τη οδώ του σκολιού· όστις φυλάττει την ψυχήν αυτού, θέλει είσθαι μακράν απ' αυτών.
6 Teache a childe in the trade of his way, and when he is olde, he shall not depart from it.
Δίδαξον το παιδίον εν αρχή της οδού αυτού· και δεν θέλει απομακρυνθή απ' αυτής ουδέ όταν γηράση.
7 The rich ruleth the poore, and the borower is seruant to the man that lendeth.
Ο πλούσιος εξουσιάζει τους πτωχούς· και ο δανειζόμενος είναι δούλος του δανείζοντος.
8 He that soweth iniquitie, shall reape affliction, and the rodde of his anger shall faile.
Ο σπείρων ανομίαν θέλει θερίσει συμφοράς· και η ράβδος της ύβρεως αυτού θέλει εκλείψει.
9 He that hath a good eye, he shalbe blessed: for he giueth of his bread vnto the poore.
Ο έχων όμμα αγαθόν θέλει ευλογηθή· διότι δίδει εκ του άρτου αυτού εις τον πτωχόν.
10 Cast out the scorner, and strife shall go out: so contention and reproche shall cease.
Εκδίωξον τον χλευαστήν και θέλει συνεξέλθει η φιλονεικία, και η έρις και η ύβρις θέλουσι παύσει.
11 Hee that loueth purenesse of heart for the grace of his lippes, the King shalbe his friend.
Όστις αγαπά την καθαρότητα της καρδίας, διά την χάριν των χειλέων αυτού ο βασιλεύς θέλει είσθαι φίλος αυτού.
12 The eyes of the Lord preserue knowledge: but hee ouerthroweth the wordes of the transgressour.
Οι οφθαλμοί του Κυρίου περιφρουρούσι την γνώσιν· ανατρέπει δε τας υποθέσεις του παρανόμου.
13 The slouthfull man saith, A lyon is without, I shall be slaine in the streete.
Ο οκνηρός λέγει, Λέων είναι έξω· εν τω μέσω των πλατειών θέλω φονευθή.
14 The mouth of strage women is as a deepe pit: he with whom the Lord is angry, shall fall therein.
Στόμα γυναικός αλλοτρίας είναι λάκκος βαθύς· ο μισούμενος υπό Κυρίου θέλει εμπέσει εις αυτόν.
15 Foolishnesse is bounde in the heart of a childe: but the rodde of correction shall driue it away from him.
Η ανοησία είναι συνδεδεμένη μετά της καρδίας του παιδίου· η ράβδος της παιδείας θέλει αποχωρίσει αυτήν απ' αυτού.
16 Hee that oppresseth the poore to increase him selfe, and giueth vnto the riche, shall surely come to pouertie.
Όστις καταθλίβει τον πτωχόν διά να αυξήση τα πλούτη αυτού, και όστις δίδει εις τον πλούσιον, θέλει ελθεί βεβαίως εις ένδειαν.
17 Incline thine eare, and heare the wordes of the wise, and apply thine heart vnto my knowledge.
Κλίνον το ωτίον σου και άκουε τους λόγους των σοφών, και προσκόλλησον την καρδίαν σου εις την γνώσιν μου·
18 For it shalbe pleasant, if thou keepe them in thy bellie, and if they be directed together in thy lippes.
διότι είναι τερπνοί, εάν φυλάττη αυτούς εν τη καρδία σου· και θέλουσι συναρμόζεσθαι ομού επί των χειλέων σου.
19 That thy confidence may be in the Lord, I haue shewed thee this day: thou therefore take heede.
Διά να ήναι το θάρρος σου επί τον Κύριον, εδίδαξα ταύτα εις σε την ημέραν ταύτην, μάλιστα εις σε.
20 Haue not I written vnto thee three times in counsels and knowledge,
Δεν έγραψα εις σε πολλάκις διά συμβουλών και γνώσεων,
21 That I might shewe thee the assurance of the wordes of trueth to answere the wordes of trueth to them that sende to thee?
διά να σε κάμω να γνωρίσης την βεβαιότητα των λόγων της αληθείας, ώστε να αποκρίνησαι λόγους αληθείας προς τους εξαποστέλλοντάς σε;
22 Robbe not the poore, because hee is poore, neither oppresse the afflicted in iudgement.
Μη γυμνόνης τον πτωχόν, διότι είναι πτωχός· μηδέ κατάθλιβε εις την πύλην τον δυστυχούντα·
23 For the Lord will defende their cause, and spoyle the soule of those that spoyle them.
διότι ο Κύριος θέλει εκδικάσει την δίκην αυτών· και θέλει γυμνώσει την ψυχήν των γυμνωσάντων αυτούς.
24 Make no friendship with an angrie man, neither goe with the furious man,
Μη κάμνε φιλίαν μετά ανθρώπου θυμώδους· και μετά ανθρώπου οργίλου μη συμπεριπάτει·
25 Least thou learne his wayes, and receiue destruction to thy soule.
μήποτε μάθης τας οδούς αυτού, και λάβης παγίδα εις την ψυχήν σου.
26 Be not thou of them that touch the hand, nor among them that are suretie for debts.
Μη έσο εκ των διδόντων χείρα, εκ των εγγυωμένων διά χρέη.
27 If thou hast nothing to paye, why causest thou that he should take thy bed from vnder thee?
Εάν δεν έχης πόθεν να πληρώσης, διά τι να πάρωσι την κλίνην σου υποκάτωθέν σου;
28 Thou shalt not remooue the ancient bounds which thy fathers haue made.
Μη μετακίνει όρια αρχαία, τα οποία έθεσαν οι πατέρες σου.
29 Thou seest that a diligent man in his businesse standeth before Kings, and standeth not before the base sort.
Είδες άνθρωπον επιτήδειον εις τα έργα αυτού; αυτός θέλει παρασταθή ενώπιον βασιλέων· δεν θέλει παρασταθή ενώπιον ουτιδανών.
