Proverbs 16

1 The preparations of the heart are in man: but the answere of the tongue is of the Lord.

Dem Menschen gehören die Entwürfe des Herzens an, aber vom HERRN kommt das, was die Zunge ausspricht. –

2 All the wayes of a man are cleane in his owne eyes: but the Lord pondereth the spirits.

Einem Menschen erscheint alles rein, was er unternimmt; aber der HERR wägt die Geister. –

3 Commit thy workes vnto the Lord, and thy thoughts shalbe directed.

Befiehl dem HERRN deine Werke, dann werden deine Pläne gelingen. –

4 The Lord hath made all things for his owne sake: yea, euen the wicked for the day of euill.

Alles hat der HERR für einen bestimmten Zweck geschaffen, so auch den Gottlosen für den Tag des Unglücks. –

5 All that are proude in heart, are an abomination to the Lord: though hand ioyne in hand, he shall not be vnpunished.

Jeder Hochmütige ist dem HERRN ein Greuel: die Hand darauf! Ein solcher wird nicht ungestraft bleiben. –

6 By mercy and trueth iniquitie shalbe forgiuen, and by the feare of the Lord they depart from euill.

Durch Liebe und Treue wird Verschuldung gesühnt, aber durch Gottesfurcht hält man sich vom Bösen fern. –

7 When the wayes of a man please the Lord, he will make also his enemies at peace with him.

Wenn das Verhalten jemandes dem HERRN wohlgefällt, so söhnt er sogar seine Feinde mit ihm aus. –

8 Better is a litle with righteousnesse, then great reuenues without equitie.

Besser wenig mit Gerechtigkeit, als ein großes Einkommen mit Unrecht. –

9 The heart of man purposeth his way: but the Lord doeth direct his steppes.

Des Menschen Herz erdenkt sich seinen Weg, der HERR aber lenkt seine Schritte. –

10 A diuine sentence shalbe in the lips of the King: his mouth shall not transgresse in iudgement.

Ein Gottesurteil liegt auf den Lippen des Königs: beim Rechtsprechen verfehlt sich sein Mund nicht. –

11 A true weight and balance are of the Lord: all the weightes of the bagge are his worke.

[Richtige] Waage und Waagschalen sind Gottes Sache; sein Werk sind alle Gewichtstücke im Beutel. –

12 It is an abomination to Kings to commit wickednes: for the throne is stablished by iustice.

Das Verüben von Freveltaten ist den Königen ein Greuel; denn nur durch Gerechtigkeit steht ein Thron fest. –

13 Righteous lips are the delite of Kings, and the King loueth him that speaketh right things.

Wahrhaftige Lippen gefallen dem Könige wohl, und wer aufrichtig redet, den liebt er. –

14 The wrath of a King is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacifie it.

Des Königs Zorn gleicht Todesboten, aber ein weiser Mann besänftigt diesen (Zorn). –

15 In the light of the Kings coutenance is life: and his fauour is as a cloude of the latter raine.

Im freundlichen Blick des Königs liegt Leben, und seine Huld ist wie eine Regenwolke des Spätregens. –

16 Howe much better is it to get wisedome then golde? and to get vnderstanding, is more to be desired then siluer.

Weisheit zu erwerben ist viel besser als Gold, und Einsicht zu erwerben ist wertvoller als Silber. –

17 The pathe of the righteous is to decline from euil, and hee keepeth his soule, that keepeth his way.

Die Bahn der Rechtschaffenen ist darauf gerichtet, sich vom Bösen fernzuhalten; wer auf seinen Wandel achtgibt, behütet seine Seele. –

18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an high minde before the fall.

Hochmut kommt vor dem Fall und hoffärtiger Sinn vor dem Sturz. –

19 Better it is to be of humble minde with the lowly, then to deuide the spoyles with the proude.

Besser ist es, demütig zu sein mit den Niedrigen, als Beute zu teilen mit den Stolzen. –

20 He that is wise in his busines, shall finde good: and he that trusteth in the Lord, he is blessed.

Wer auf das Wort (Gottes) achtet, wird Segen davon haben, und wer auf den HERRN vertraut: wohl ihm! –

21 The wise in heart shall bee called prudent: and the sweetenesse of the lippes shall increase doctrine.

Wer weisen Herzens ist, der wird mit Recht verständig genannt, doch Süßigkeit der Lippen fördert noch die Belehrung. –

22 Vnderstading is welspring of life vnto them that haue it: and the instruction of fooles is folly.

Ein Born des Lebens ist die Einsicht für ihren Besitzer; für die Toren aber ist die Torheit eine Strafe. –

23 The heart of the wise guideth his mouth wisely, and addeth doctrine to his lippes.

Der Verstand des Weisen macht seinen Mund klug und mehrt auf seinen Lippen die Belehrung. –

24 Faire wordes are as an hony combe, sweetenesse to the soule, and health to the bones.

Honigseim sind freundliche Worte, süß für die Seele und gesund für den Leib. –

25 There is a way that seemeth right vnto man: but the issue thereof are the wayes of death.

Mancher Weg erscheint dem Menschen gerade und ist schließlich doch ein Weg zum Tode. –

26 The person that traueileth, traueileth for himselfe: for his mouth craueth it of him.

Der Hunger des Arbeiters fördert seine Arbeit, denn sein (hungriger) Mund treibt ihn dazu an. –

27 A wicked man diggeth vp euill, and in his lippes is like burning fire.

Ein nichtswürdiger Mensch gräbt Unheilsgruben, und auf seinen Lippen ist’s wie brennendes Feuer. –

28 A frowarde person soweth strife: and a tale teller maketh diuision among princes.

Ein ränkesüchtiger Mensch richtet Unfrieden an, und ein Ohrenbläser entzweit vertraute Freunde. –

29 A wicked man deceiueth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.

Ein gewalttätiger Mensch beschwatzt seinen Genossen und führt ihn auf einen unheilvollen Weg. –

30 He shutteth his eyes to deuise wickednes: he moueth his lippes, and bringeth euil to passe.

Wer seine Augen zukneift, will Arglist ersinnen; wer seine Lippen zusammenpreßt, hat Bosheit vollbracht. –

31 Age is a crowne of glory, when it is founde in the way of righteousnes.

Graues Haar ist eine Ehrenkrone; auf dem Wege der Gerechtigkeit wird sie erlangt. –

32 He that is slowe vnto anger, is better then the mightie man: and hee that ruleth his owne minde, is better then he that winneth a citie.

Besser ein Langmütiger als ein Kriegsheld, und besser einer, der sich selbst beherrscht, als ein Städteeroberer. –

33 The lot is cast into the lap: but the whole disposition thereof is of the Lord.

Im Bausch (des Gewandes) wirft man das Los, aber alle seine Entscheidung kommt vom HERRN.
