Obadiah 1

1 The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord God against Edom, We haue heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassadour is sent among the heathen: arise, and let vs rise vp against her to battel.

Die Offenbarung an Obadja. So spricht der Herr Jahwe über Edom: Eine Kunde haben wir vernommen von Jahwe her, und eine Botschaft ward unter die Völker gesandt: Auf! Laßt uns aufbrechen, es zu bekriegen!

2 Beholde, I haue made thee small among the heathen: thou art vtterly despised.

Fürwahr, ich will dich klein machen unter den Völkern, überaus verachtet wirst du sein!

3 The pride of thine heart hath deceiued thee: thou that dwellest in the cleftes of the rockes, whose habitation is hie, that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me downe to the ground?

Dein vermessener Sinn hat dich bethört als einen, der in Felsenhängen wohnt, auf seinem hohen Sitze, der da denkt in seinem Sinn: Wer könnte mich zur Erde hinabstürzen!

4 Though thou exalt thy selfe as the eagle, and make thy nest among the starres, thence will I bring thee downe, sayth the Lord.

Wenn du auch horstetest hoch wie der Adler, und wenn dein Nest zwischen die Sterne gesetzt wäre, ich stürzte dich von dort herab, ist der Spruch Jahwes.

5 Came theeues to thee or robbers by night? howe wast thou brought to silence? woulde they not haue stolen, til they had ynough? if the grape gatherers came to thee, woulde they not leaue some grapes?

Wenn dir Diebe ins Haus hineinkommen, wenn nächtliche Räuber - wie bist du zu Grunde gerichtet! - so rauben sie doch nur, bis sie befriedigt sind. Wenn dir Winzer in den Weinberg hineinkommen, lassen sie nicht eine Nachlese übrig?

6 Howe are the things of Esau sought vp, and his treasures searched?

Wie ist aber Esau durchsucht, seine verborgensten Örter durchstöbert!

7 All the men of thy confederacie haue driuen thee to ye borders: the men that were at peace with thee, haue deceiued thee, and preuailed against thee: they that eate thy bread, haue laid a wound vnder thee: there is none vnderstanding in him.

An die Grenze weisen dich alle, die deine Bundesgenossen waren. Es betrügen dich, überwältigen dich, die dir befreundet waren; die dein Brot aßen, stellen dir Fallen, die nicht zu merken sind.

8 Shall not I in that day, saith the Lord, euen destroy the wise men out of Edom, and vnderstanding from the mount of Esau?

Fürwahr! an jenem Tag, ist der Spruch Jahwes, werde ich die Weisen aus Edom hinwegtilgen und die Einsicht aus dem Gebirge Esaus.

9 And thy strong men, O Teman, shall bee afraide, because euery one of the mount of Esau shalbe cut off by slaughter.

Deine Helden, Theman, sollen verzagen, damit auch der letzte Mann aus dem Gebirge Esaus ausgerottet werde im Gemetzel.

10 For thy crueltie against thy brother Iaakob, shame shall couer thee, and thou shalt be cut off for euer.

Wegen der Frevelthat an deinem Bruder Jakob wirst du mit Schande bedeckt sein und bist du für immer vernichtet.

11 When thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers caried away his substance, and straungers entred into his gates, and cast lots vpon Ierusalem, euen thou wast as one of them.

Am Tage, da du ihm entgegen tratest, am Tage, da fremde Feinde sein Vermögen wegschleppten und Ausländer in seine Thore eindrangen und über Jerusalem das Los warfen, warst auch du dabei, als ob du zu ihnen gehörtest.

12 But thou shouldest not haue beholden the day of thy brother, in the day that hee was made a stranger, neither shouldest thou haue reioyced ouer the children of Iudah, in the day of their destruction: thou shouldest not haue spoken proudly in the day of affliction.

Schau doch nicht so deine Lust am Unglückstage deines Bruders, am Tage seines Mißgeschicks, freue dich doch nicht so über die Judäer am Tage ihres Untergangs, und sperre doch nicht deinen Mund so weit auf am Tage der Bedrängnis!

13 Thou shouldest not haue entred into the gate of my people, in the day of their destruction, neither shouldest thou haue once looked on their affliction in the day of their destruction, nor haue layde hands on their substance in the day of their destruction.

Dringe doch nicht ein in das Thor meines Volks an ihrem Unglückstage, schau nicht auch du deine Lust an seinem Unheil an seinem Unglückstage und strecke doch nicht deine Hand aus nach seinem Gut an seinem Unglückstage!

14 Neyther shouldest thou haue stande in the crosse wayes to cut off them, that shoulde escape, neither shouldest thou haue shut vp the remnant thereof in the day of affliction.

Stelle dich doch nicht am Scheideweg auf, um seine Flüchtlinge niederzumachen, und fange doch seine Entronnenen nicht ab am Tage der Bedrängnis!

15 For the day of the Lord is neere, vpon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall bee done to thee: thy reward shall returne vpon thine head.

Denn nahe ist der Tag des Gerichts Jahwes über alle Völker: Ganz wie du gehandelt hast, wird dir geschehen; deine Thaten fallen auf dein Haupt zurück!

16 For as yee haue drunke vpon mine holy Mountaine, so shall all the heathen drinke continually: yea, they shall drinke and swallow vp, and they shalbe as though they had not bene.

Denn wie ihr getrunken habt auf meinem heiligen Berge, werden alle Völker ohne Aufhören trinken; sie werden trinken und schlürfen und sollen werden wie solche, die nie gewesen.

17 But vpon mount Zion shalbe deliuerance, and it shalbe holy, and the house of Iaakob shall possesse their possessions,

Aber auf dem Berge Zion soll Rettung sein, und er soll als unantastbares Heiligtum gelten, und die vom Hause Jakobs werden ihre früheren Besitztümer einnehmen.

18 And the house of Iaakob shalbe a fire, and the house of Ioseph a flame, and the house of Esau as stubble, and they shall kindle in them and deuoure them: and there shall bee no remnant of the house of Esau for the Lord hath spoken it.

Das Haus Jakobs wird ein Feuer werden, und das Haus Josephs eine lodernde Flamme; das Haus Esaus aber wird zu Stoppeln werden, die werden sie anzünden und verzehren, so daß vom Hause Esaus nichts übrig bleibt; denn Jahwe hat es geredet.

19 And they shall possesse the South side of the mount of Esau, and the plaine of the Philistims: and they shall possesse the fieldes of Ephraim, and the fieldes of Samaria, and Beniamin shall haue Gilead.

Die im Südlande werden das Gebirge Esaus in Besitz nehmen, und die in der Niederung das Philisterland. Auch das Gefilde Ephraims und das Gefilde Samarias werden sie in Besitz nehmen, und Benjamin wird Gilead erobern.

20 And the captiuitie of this host of the children of Israel, which were among the Canaanites, shall possesse vnto Zarephath, and the captiuitie of Ierusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possesse the cities of the South.

Die aus dieser Festung gefangen weggeführten Israeliten werden in Besitz nehmen, was den Kanaanitern gehört bis nach Zarpath hin, und die aus Jerusalem weggeführten, die in Sepharad sind, werden die Städte des Südlands in Besitz nehmen.

21 And they that shall saue, shall come vp to mount Zion to iudge the mount of Esau, and the kingdome shalbe the Lords.

Retter werden auf den Berg Zion ziehen, um das Gebirge Esaus zu richten, und Jahwe wird die Königsmacht erhalten.
