Numbers 24
1 When Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to blesse Israel, then he went not, as certaine times before, to set diuinations, but set his face toward the wildernesse.
Or Balaam, veggendo che piaceva al Signore di benedire Israele, non andò più, come l'altre volte, a incontrare augurii; e dirizzò la faccia verso il deserto.
2 And Balaam lift vp his eyes, and looked vpon Israel, which dwelt according to their tribes, and the Spirit of God came vpon him.
E, alzati gli occhi, vide Israele, stanziato a tribù a tribù. Allora lo Spirito di Dio fu sopra lui.
3 And he vttered his parable, and sayd, Balaam the sonne of Beor hath sayde, and the man, whose eyes were shut vp, hath sayd,
Ed egli prese a proferir la sua sentenza, e disse: [Così] dice Balaam, figliuolo di Beor, [Così] dice l'uomo che ha l'occhio aperto:
4 He hath sayde, which heard the wordes of God, and sawe the vision of the Almightie, and falling in a traunce had his eyes opened:
[Così] dice colui che ode le parole di Dio, Che vede la visione dell'Onnipotente, che cade [a terra], E a cui gli occhi sono aperti.
5 How goodly are thy tentes, O Iaakob, and thine habitations, O Israel!
Quanto son belli i tuoi padiglioni, o Giacobbe! E i tuoi tabernacoli, o Israele!
6 As the valleis, are they stretched forth, as gardes by the riuers side, as the aloe trees, which the Lord hath planted, as the cedars beside the waters.
Essi son distesi a guisa di valli; [Sono] come orti presso a un fiume, Come santali [che] il Signore ha piantati, Come cedri presso all'acque.
7 The water droppeth out of his bucket, and his seede shalbe in many waters, and his king shall be hier then Agag, and his kingdome shall bee exalted.
Egli verserà dell'acqua delle sue secchie, E il suo seme [sarà] fra acque copiose, E il suo re sarà innalzato sopra Agag, E il suo regno sarà esaltato.
8 God brought him out of Egypt: his strength shalbe as an vnicorne: he shall eate the nations his enemies, and bruise their bones, and shoote them through with his arrowes.
Iddio, che l'ha tratto fuor di Egitto, Gli [sarà] a guisa di forze di liocorno; Egli consumerà le genti che gli saranno nemiche, E triterà loro le ossa, e [le] trafiggerà con le sue saette.
9 He coucheth and lieth downe as a yong lion, and as a lion: who shall stirre him vp? blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.
[Quando] egli si sarà chinato, e si sarà posto a giacere come un leone, E come un gran leone, chi lo desterà? Coloro che ti benedicono saranno benedetti, E coloro che ti maledicono saranno maledetti.
10 Then Balak was very angry with Balaam, and smote his handes together: so Balak sayde vnto Balaam, I sent for thee to curse mine enemies, and beholde, thou hast blessed them nowe three times.
Allora l'ira di Balac si accese contro a Balaam; e, battendosi a palme, gli disse: Io t'ho chiamato per maledire i miei nemici; ed ecco, tu li hai pur benedetti già tre volte.
11 Therefore nowe flee vnto thy place: I thought surely to promote thee vnto honour, but loe, the Lord hath kept thee backe from honour.
Ora dunque, fuggitene al tuo luogo; io avea detto che ti farei grande onore; ma ecco, il Signore ti ha divietato d'essere onorato.
12 Then Balaam answered Balak, Tolde I not also thy messengers, which thou sentest vnto me, saying,
E Balaam rispose a Balac: E io non aveva io detto a' tuoi ambasciadori che tu mi mandasti:
13 If Balak would giue me his house ful of siluer and gold, I can not passe the commandement of the Lord, to doe either good or bad of mine owne minde? what the Lord shall commaund, the same will I speake.
Avvegnachè Balac mi desse piena la sua casa d'argento, e d'oro, io non potrei trapassare il comandamento del Signore, per far [cosa alcuna], buona o malvagia, di mio senno; ciò che il Signore mi avrà detto, quello dirò?
14 And nowe behold, I goe vnto my people: come, I will aduertise thee what this people shall doe to thy folke in the later dayes.
Ora dunque, io me ne vo al mio popolo; vieni, io ti consiglierò; [e ti dirò] ciò che questo popolo farà al tuo popolo negli ultimi tempi.
15 And he vttered his parable, and sayd, Balaam the sonne of Beor hath sayde, and the man whose eyes were shut vp, hath sayd,
Allora egli prese a proferir la sua sentenza, e disse: [Così] dice Balaam, figliuolo di Beor; [Così] dice l'uomo che ha l'occhio aperto:
16 He hath said that heard the words of God, and hath the knowledge of the most High, and sawe the vision of the Almightie, and falling in a traunce had his eyes opened:
[Così] dice colui che ode le parole di Dio; E che intende la scienza dell'Altissimo; Che vede la visione dell'Onnipotente, Che cade [a terra], e a cui gli occhi sono aperti:
17 I shall see him, but not nowe: I shall behold him, but not neere: there shall come a starre of Iaakob, and a scepter shall rise of Israel, and shall smite the coastes of Moab, and destroy all the sonnes of Sheth.
Io lo veggo, ma non al presente; Io lo scorgo, ma non di presso. Una stella procederà da Giacobbe, E uno scettro surgerà d'Israele, Il quale trafiggerà i principi di Moab, E distruggerà tutti i figliuoli del fondamento.
18 And Edom shalbe possessed, and Seir shall be a possession to their enemies: but Israel shall do valiantly.
Ed Edom sarà il conquisto, Seir sarà il conquisto de' suoi nemici; E Israele farà prodezze.
19 He also that shall haue dominion shall bee of Iaakob, and shall destroy the remnant of the citie.
E [uno disceso] di Giacobbe, signoreggerà E distruggerà chi sarà scampato della città.
20 And when he looked on Amalek, he vttered his parable, and sayd, Amalek was the first of the nations: but his latter ende shall come to destruction.
Poi Balaam riguardò Amalec, e prese a proferir la sua sentenza, e disse: Amalec [è] una primizia di Gentili, E il suo rimanente [sarà ridotto] a perdizione.
21 And he looked on the Kenites, and vttered his parable, and sayde, Strong is thy dwelling place, and put thy nest in the rocke.
Poi riguardò il Cheneo, e prese a proferir la sua sentenza, e disse: La tua stanza [è] forte, E tu hai posto il tuo nido nella rupe.
22 Neuerthelesse, the Kenite shalbe spoyled vntill Asshur cary thee away captiue.
Ma pur Cain sarà disertato, Infino a tanto che Assur ti meni in cattività.
23 Againe he vttered his parable, and sayd, Alas, who shall liue when God doeth this?
Poi prese di nuovo a proferir la sua sentenza, e disse: Guai a chi viverà dopo che Iddio avrà innalzato colui!
24 The ships also shall come from the coastes of Chittim, and subdue Asshur, and shall subdue Eber, and he also shall come to destruction.
Poi appresso [verranno] navi dalla costa di Chittim, E affliggeranno Assur, e oppresseranno Eber; Ed essi ancora saranno ridotti a perdizione.
25 Then Balaam rose vp, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.
Poi Balaam si levò, e se ne andò, e ritornò al suo luogo; e Balac altresì andò a suo cammino.
