Matthew 23
1 Then spake Iesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
Silloin Jesus puhui kansalle ja hänen opetuslapsillensa,
2 Saying, The Scribes and the Pharises sit in Moses seate.
Sanoen: Moseksen istuimella istuvat kirjanoppineet ja Pharisealaiset:
3 All therefore whatsoeuer they bid you obserue, that obserue and doe: but after their workes doe not: for they say, and doe not.
Kaikki siis, mitä he teidän käskevät pitää, se pitäkäät ja tehkäät; mutta heidän töittensä jälkeen älkäät te tehkö, sillä he sanovat, ja ei tee.
4 For they binde heauie burdens, and grieuous to be borne, and lay them on mens shoulders, but they themselues will not moue them with one of their fingers.
Sillä he sitovat raskaat kuormat, joita ei voida kantaa, ja panevat ne ihmisten olille, mutta ei he sormellansakaan itse tahdo niitä liikuttaa.
5 All their workes they doe for to be seene of men: for they make their phylacteries broad, and make long the frindges of their garments,
Mutta kaikki työnsä tekevät he, että ne ihmisiltä nähtäisiin. He levittelevät muistokirjansa, ja tekevät suureksi vaatteensa liepeet,
6 And loue the chiefe place at feastes, and to haue the chiefe seates in the assemblies,
Ja rakastavat ylimmäisiä sijoja pidoissa ja ylimmäisiä istuimia synagogissa,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
Ja tervehdyksiä turulla, ja tahtovat kutsuttaa ihmisiltä: rabbi, rabbi.
8 But be not ye called, Rabbi: for one is your doctour, to wit, Christ, and all ye are brethren.
Mutta älkäät te antako teitä kutsuttaa rabbiksi; sillä yksi on teidän Mestarinne, joka on Kristus, mutta te olette kaikki veljekset.
9 And call no man your father vpon the earth: for there is but one, your father which is in heauen.
Ja älkäät ketäkään kutsuko isäksenne maan päällä; sillä yksi on Isänne, joka on taivaissa.
10 Be not called doctours: for one is your doctour, euen Christ.
Ja älkäät antako teitä kutsuttaa mestariksi; sillä yksi on teidän Mestarinne, joka on Kristus.
11 But he that is greatest among you, let him be your seruant.
Joka teistä suurin on, se olkoon teidän palvelianne.
12 For whosoeuer will exalt himselfe, shall be brought lowe: and whosoeuer will humble himselfe, shalbe exalted.
Mutta joka itsensä ylentää, se alennetaan, ja joka itsensä alentaa, se ylennetään.
13 Wo therefore be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites, because ye shut vp the kingdome of heauen before men: for ye your selues go not in, neither suffer ye them that would enter, to come in.
Mutta voi teitä, kirjanoppineet ja Pharisealaiset, te ulkokullatut! jotka suljette taivaan valtakunnan ihmisten edestä; sillä ette itse sinne mene, ettekä salli meneväisiä sinne mennä.
14 Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye deuoure widowes houses, euen vnder a colour of long prayers: wherefore ye shall receiue the greater damnation.
Voi teitä kirjanoppineet ja Pharisealaiset, te ulkokullatut! jotka syötte leskein huoneet, ja muodoksi pidätte pitkät rukoukset: sentähden te saatte sitä kovemman kadotuksen.
15 Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye compasse sea and land to make one of your profession: and when he is made, ye make him two folde more the childe of hell, then you your selues. (Geenna g1067)
Voi teitä kirjanoppineet ja Pharisealaiset, te ulkokullatut! jotka merta ja mannerta ympäri vaellatte, tehdäksenne yhtä uutta Juudalaista; ja kuin se tehty on, niin te hänestä teette kaksikertaa enemmän helvetin lapsen kuin te itse olette. (Geenna g1067)
16 Wo be vnto you blinde guides, which say, Whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the golde of the Temple, he offendeth.
Voi teitä, te sokiat taluttajat! jotka sanotte: joka vannoo templin kautta, ei se mitään ole, mutta joka vannoo templin kullan kautta, se on velvollinen.
17 Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the golde, or the Temple that sanctifieth the golde?
Te hullut ja sokiat! sillä kumpi on suurempi: kulta, eli templi, joka kullan pyhittää?
18 And whosoeuer sweareth by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offering that is vpon it, offendeth.
Ja joka vannoo alttarin kautta, ei se mitään ole; mutta joka vannoo lahjan kautta, joka sen päällä on, se on velvollinen.
19 Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the offering, or the altar which sanctifieth the offering?
Te hullut ja sokiat! sillä kumpi on suurempi: lahja, eli alttari, joka lahjan pyhittää?
20 Whosoeuer therefore sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
Joka siis vannoo alttarin kautta, hän vannoo sen kautta ja kaikkein, mikä sen päällä on.
21 And whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
Ja joka vannoo templin kautta, se vannoo hänen kauttansa ja sen kautta, joka siinä asuu.
22 And he that sweareth by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.
Ja joka vannoo taivaan kautta, se vannoo Jumalan istuimen kautta ja hänen kauttansa, joka sen päällä istuu.
23 Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye tithe mynt, and annyse, and cummyn, and leaue the weightier matters of the law, as iudgement, and mercy and fidelitie. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue left the other.
Voi teitä kirjanoppineet ja Pharisealaiset, te ulkokullatut! jotka kymmenykset teette mintuista, tilleistä ja kuminoista, ja jätätte pois ne raskaammat laista, tuomion, laupiuden ja uskon: näitä piti tehtämän, ja toisia ei jätettämän.
24 Ye blinde guides, which straine out a gnat, and swallowe a camell.
Te sokiat taluttajat! te kuurnitsette hyttysen ja kamelin nielette.
25 Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye make cleane the vtter side of the cup, and of the platter: but within they are ful of briberie and excesse.
Voi teitä kirjanoppineet ja Pharisealaiset, te ulkokullatut! jotka puhdistatte juoma-astian ja ruoka-astian ulkoiselta puolelta, mutta sisältä ovat ne täynnä raatelemista ja tyytymättömyyttä.
26 Thou blinde Pharise, cleanse first the inside of the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be cleane also.
Sinä sokia Pharisealainen! puhdista ensin juoma-astia ja ruoka-astia sisältä, että myös ulkonainenkin puoli puhtaaksi tulis.
27 Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye are like vnto whited tombes, which appeare beautifull outward, but are within full of dead mens bones, and all filthines.
Voi teitä kirjanoppineet ja Pharisealaiset, te ulkokullatut; sillä te olette valkiaksi sivuttuin hautain kaltaiset, jotka ulkoa kauniit ovat, mutta sisältä ovat he täynnä kuolleiden luita ja kaikkea riettautta.
28 So are ye also: for outwarde ye appeare righteous vnto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisie and iniquitie.
Niin myös te olette ulkoa tosin nähdä ihmisten edessä hurskaat, mutta sisältä te olette täynnä ulkokullaisuutta ja vääryyttä.
29 Wo be vnto you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye build the tombes of the Prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
Voi teitä kirjanoppineet ja Pharisealaiset, te ulkokullatut! jotka rakennatte prophetain hautoja ja kaunistatte vanhurskasten hautoja,
30 And say, If we had bene in the dayes of our fathers, we would not haue bene partners with them in the blood of the Prophets.
Ja sanotte: jos me olisimme olleet meidän isäimme aikoina, emme olisi olleet osalliset heidän kanssansa prophetain veressä.
31 So then ye be witnesses vnto your selues, that ye are the children of them that murthered the Prophets.
Niin te siis itseänne tunnustatte, että olette niiden lapset, jotka tappoivat prophetat.
32 Fulfill ye also ye measure of your fathers.
Niin tekin täyttäkäät teidän isäinne määrä.
33 O serpents, the generation of vipers, howe should ye escape the damnation of hell! (Geenna g1067)
Te kärmeet, te kyykärmetten sikiät! kuinka te vältätte helvetin kadotuksen? (Geenna g1067)
34 Wherefore beholde, I send vnto you Prophets, and wise men, and Scribes, and of them ye shall kill and crucifie: and of them shall ye scourge in your Synagogues, and persecute from citie to citie,
Sentähden, katso, minä lähetän teille prophetat, ja viisaat, ja kirjanoppineet; ja niistä te muutamat tapatte ja ristiinnaulitsette, ja muutamat te pieksätte teidän synagogissanne, ja vainootte kaupungista kaupunkiin.
35 That vpon you may come all the righteous blood that was shed vpon the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous, vnto the blood of Zacharias the sonne of Barachias, whome ye slewe betweene the Temple and the altar.
Että teidän päällenne pitää tuleman kaikki vanhurskas veri, joka vuodatettu on maan päälle hamasta vanhurskaan Abelin verestä niin Sakariaan, Barakiaan pojan vereen asti, jonka te tapoitte templin ja alttarin vaiheella.
36 Verely I say vnto you, all these things shall come vpon this generation.
Totisesti sanon minä teille: kaikki nämät pitää tuleman tämän suvun päälle.
37 Hierusalem, Hierusalem, which killest the Prophets, and stonest them which are sent to thee, how often would I haue gathered thy children together, as the henne gathereth her chickins vnder her wings, and ye would not!
Jerusalem, Jerusalem, sinä joka tapat prophetat ja kivillä surmaat ne, jotka sinun tykös lähetetyt ovat! kuinka usein minä tahdoin koota sinun lapses, niinkuin kana kokoo poikansa siipeinsä alle? ja ette tahtoneet.
38 Beholde, your habitation shalbe left vnto you desolate,
Katso, teidän huoneenne pitää teille jäämän kylmille.
39 For I say vnto you, ye shall not see mee henceforth till that ye say, Blessed is he that commeth in the Name of the Lord.
Sillä minä sanon teille: ette suinkaan minua tästedes näe, siihenasti kuin te sanotte: kiitetty olkoon se, joka tulee Herran nimeen!
