Matthew 12
1 At that time Iesus went on a Sabbath day through ye corne, and his disciples were an hungred, and bega to plucke ye eares of corne and to eate.
En ce temps-là, — un jour de sabbat, — Jésus passa par les blés. Ses disciples avaient faim; ils se mirent à cueillir des épis et à manger.
2 And when the Pharises sawe it, they saide vnto him, Beholde, thy disciples doe that which is not lawfull to doe vpon the Sabbath.
Les Pharisiens les virent. «Voilà tes disciples, dirent-ils à Jésus, qui font ce qu'il n'est pas permis de faire un jour de sabbat.»
3 But he said vnto them, Haue ye not read what Dauid did when he was an hungred, and they that were with him?
Il leur répondit: «N'avez-vous pas lu ce que fit David lorsqu'il eut faim, et ce que firent ses compagnons?
4 Howe he entred into ye house of God, and did eate the shewe bread, which was not lawfull for him to eate, neither for them which were with him, but onely for the Priestes?
— comment il entra dans la maison de Dieu et mangea les pains de proposition, qu'il n'était permis de manger ni à lui, ni à ses compagnons, mais aux prêtres seuls?
5 Or haue ye not read in the Lawe, how that on the Sabbath dayes the Priestes in the Temple breake the Sabbath, and are blameles?
N'avez-vous pas aussi lu dans la Loi que, le jour du sabbat, les prêtres violent dans le Temple le repos sabbatique et cependant sont innocents?
6 But I say vnto you, that here is one greater then the Temple.
Or, je vous le dis, il y a ici quelque chose de plus grand que le Temple.
7 Wherefore if ye knewe what this is, I will haue mercie, and not sacrifice, ye would not haue condemned the innocents.
Si vous saviez ce que signifie: «Je veux miséricorde et non sacrifice» vous n'auriez pas condamné des innocents:
8 For the sonne of man is Lord, euen of the Sabbath.
le Fils de l'homme est maître du sabbat.»
9 And he departed thence, and went into their Synagogue:
Il partit de là et se rendit dans leur synagogue.
10 And beholde, there was a man which had his hand dried vp. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawfull to heale vpon a Sabbath day? that they might accuse him.
Il s'y trouvait un homme qui avait une main paralysée; pour avoir un prétexte à accusation, ils lui posèrent une question: «Est-il permis, dirent ils, de guérir les jours de sabbat?»
11 And he said vnto the, What man shall there be among you, that hath a sheepe, and if it fal on a Sabbath day into a pit, doth not take it and lift it out?
Il leur répondit: «Si l’un de vous n'a qu'une brebis et que, le jour du sabbat, cette brebis tombe dans une fosse, est-ce qu'il ne la prendra pas, est-ce qu'il ne la retirera pas?
12 How much more then is a man better then a sheepe? therefore, it is lawfull to doe well on a Sabbath day.
De quel prix cependant n'est pas un être humain en comparaison d'une brebis? Donc, il est permis les jours de sabbat d'être bienfaisant.»
13 Then said he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it foorth, and it was made whole as the other.
Là-dessus, il dit à l'homme: «Étends ta main. Il l’étendit et elle redevint aussi saine que l’autre.
14 Then the Pharises went out, and consulted against him, howe they might destroy him.
Quant aux Pharisiens, ils sortirent et allèrent se concerter entre eux sur les moyens de le perdre.
15 But whe Iesus knew it, he departed thece, and great multitudes folowed him, and he healed the al,
Jésus l'apprit et partit de là. Beaucoup le suivirent; il les guérit tous
16 And charged them in threatning wise, that they should not make him knowen,
et, par des menaces, il leur interdit de le faire connaître.
17 That it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by Esaias the Prophet, saying,
(C'était pour que fût accompli ce qu'avait dit le prophète Ésaïe:
18 Behold my seruant whom I haue chosen, my beloued in whom my soule deliteth: I wil put my Spirit on him, and he shall shewe iudgement to the Gentiles.
«Voici mon serviteur, celui que j'ai élu, Mon bien-aimé, celui en qui mon âme s'est complu; Je mettrai m on Esprit sur lui Et il annoncera le jugement aux nations;
19 He shall not striue, nor crie, neither shall any man heare his voyce in the streetes.
Il ne disputera pas; il ne criera pas; On n'entendra pas sa voix dans les places publiques;
20 A bruised reede shall he not breake, and smoking flaxe shall he not quenche, till he bring forth iudgement vnto victorie.
Il ne brisera pas le roseau froissé Et il n'éteindra pas la mèche encore fumante, Jusqu'à ce qu'il ait fait triompher sa cause
21 And in his Name shall the Gentiles trust.
Et les nations espéreront en son nom.»)
22 Then was brought to him one, possessed with a deuill, both blind, and dumme, and he healed him, so that he which was blind and dumme, both spake and saw.
On lui présenta alors un démoniaque aveugle et muet; il le guérit de sorte que le muet parlait et voyait.
23 And all the people were amased, and saide, Is not this that sonne of Dauid?
Et la multitude était toute transportée et disait: «Celui-là n'est-il point le Fils de David?
24 But when the Pharises heard it, they saide, This man casteth the deuils no otherwise out, but through Beelzebub the prince of deuils.
Les Pharisiens, l'entendant, dirent: «Celui-là ne chasse les démons que par le prince des démons, Beelzéboul.»
25 But Iesus knew their thoughtes, and said to them, Euery kingdome deuided against it selfe, is brought to nought: and euery citie or house, deuided against it selfe, shall not stand.
Mais Jésus, connaissant leurs pensées, leur dit: «Tout Royaume divisé contre lui-même tombe en ruines; nulle ville, nulle maison divisée contre elle-même ne subsistera.
26 So if Satan cast out Satan, he is deuided against himself: how shall then his kingdom endure?
Or, si Satan chasse Satan, il est divisé contre lui-même, comment alors son Royaume subsistera-t-il?
27 Also if I through Beelzebub cast out deuils, by whom doe your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your iudges.
Et si, moi, je chasse les démons par Beelzéboul, par qui vos fils les chassent-ils? C'est pourquoi ils seront eux-mêmes vos juges!
28 But if I cast out deuils by ye Spirit of God, then is the kingdome of God come vnto you.
Mais si c'est par l'Esprit de Dieu que je chasse les démons, le Royaume de Dieu est donc venu jusqu'à vous.»
29 Els howe can a man enter into a strong mans house and spoyle his goods, except he first bind the strong man, and then spoile his house.
«Comment quelqu'un peut-il entrer dans la maison du guerrier et lui ravir ce qu'il possède s'il n'a tout d'abord chargé de liens le guerrier. Ce n'est qu'alors qu'il pourra piller sa maison.»
30 He that is not with me, is against me: and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth.
«Qui n'est point avec moi est contre moi, et qui n'amasse point, avec moi, disperse.
31 Wherefore I say vnto you, euery sinne and blasphemie shalbe forgiuen vnto men: but the blasphemie against the holy Ghost shall not be forgiuen vnto men.
C'est pourquoi je vous dis ceci: tout péché, tout blasphème sera pardonné aux hommes, mais le blasphème contre l'Esprit ne sera point pardonné.
32 And whosoeuer shall speake a word against the Sonne of man, it shall be forgiuen him: but whosoeuer shall speake against the holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiuen him, neither in this worlde, nor in the worlde to come. (aiōn g165)
Si quelqu'un prononce un mot contre le Fils de l'homme, il lui sera pardonné; mais si quelqu'un parle contre l'Esprit saint, il ne lui sera pardonné ni dans ce siècle, ni dans l'autre.». (aiōn g165)
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruite good: or els make the tree euill, and his fruite euil: for the tree is knowen by the fruite.
«Dites l'arbre bon et son fruit bon, ou dites l'arbre mauvais et son fruit mauvais, car au fruit on connaît l'arbre.»
34 O generations of vipers, howe can you speake good things, when ye are euill? For of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
«Engeance de vipères! Comment, étant méchants, pourriez-vous dire de bonnes choses; c'est de l'abondance du coeur que la bouche parle.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth foorth good things: and an euill man out of an euill treasure, bringeth forth euill things.
De son bon trésor l'homme bon tire de bonnes choses; de son mauvais trésor l'homme mauvais tire de mauvaises choses.»
36 But I say vnto you, that of euery idle word that men shall speake, they shall giue account thereof at the day of iudgement.
Je vous le déclare, au jour du Jugement les hommes rendront compte de toute parole oiseuse qu'ils auront dite.
37 For by thy wordes thou shalt be iustified, and by thy wordes thou shalt be condemned.
Par tes paroles, en effet, tu seras justifié et par tes paroles condamné.»
38 Then answered certaine of ye Scribes and of the Pharises, saying, Master, we would see a signe of thee.
«Alors quelques-uns des Scribes et des Pharisiens vinrent lui dire: «Maître, nous voulons voir un signe de toi.»
39 But he answered and said to them, An euill and adulterous generation seeketh a signe, but no signe shall be giuen vnto it, saue that signe of the Prophet Ionas.
Il répondit par ces paroles: «Mauvaise et adultère génération! elle demande un signe! et nul signe ne lui sera donné, sinon celui du prophète Jonas.
40 For as Ionas was three daies and three nights in the whales belly: so shall the Sonne of man be three daies and three nights in ye heart of the earth.
De même, en effet, que Jonas fut trois jours et trois nuits dans le ventre de la baleine, de même le Fils de l'homme sera trois jours et trois nuits dans le sein de la terre.»
41 The men of Nineue shall rise in iudgement with this generation, and condemne it: for they repented at the preaching of Ionas: and behold, a greater then Ionas is here.
Lors du jugement, les hommes de Ninive se lèveront avec cette génération et la condamneront, car, eux, ils se repentirent à la prédication de Jonas. Et voici, sous vos yeux, plus que Jonas!
42 The Queene of the South shall rise in iudgement with this generation, and shall condemne it: for she came from the vtmost partes of the earth to heare the wisdome of Salomon: and beholde, a greater then Salomon is here.
Lors du jugement, la reine du Midi se lèvera avec cette génération et la condamnera, car cette reine vint des extrémités de la terre pour écouter la sagesse de Salomon. Et voici, sous vos yeux, plus que Salomon!»
43 Nowe when the vncleane spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh throughout drie places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
Lorsque l'Esprit impur est sorti d'un homme, il erre par des lieux arides, cherchant du repos, et il n'en trouve pas.
44 Then he saith, I wil returne into mine house from whence I came: and when he is come, he findeth it emptie, swept and garnished.
Il dit alors: «Je retournerai dans ma maison, d'où je suis parti»; il y revient et la trouve vide, nettoyée et parée.
45 Then he goeth, and taketh vnto him seuen other spirites worse then himselfe, and they enter in, and dwell there: and the ende of that man is worse then the beginning. Euen so shall it be with this wicked generation.
Là-dessus, il va s'associer sept autres Esprits plus méchants que lui-même; ils y pénètrent et y demeurent; et le dernier état de cet homme devient pire que le premier. Ainsi en sera-t-il de cette génération mauvaise!»
46 While he yet spake to ye multitude, beholde, his mother, and his brethren stood without, desiring to speake with him.
Comme il parlait encore à la foule, sa mère et ses frères, qui se tenaient dehors, demandèrent à l'entretenir.
47 Then one said vnto him, Beholde, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speake with thee.
(Quelqu'un lui dit: voilà ta mère et tes frères, qui se tiennent dehors et demandent à te parler.)
48 But he answered, and said to him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
Il répondit à celui qui le lui disait: «Qui est ma mère et qui sont mes frères?»
49 And he stretched foorth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Beholde my mother and my brethren.
Puis, étendant la main sur ses disciples, il ajouta:
50 For whosoeuer shall doe my Fathers will which is in heauen, the same is my brother and sister and mother.
«Voici ma mère et mes frères! Car faire la volonté de mon Père, qui est dans les cieux, c'est être mon frère, c'est être ma soeur, c'est être ma mère!»
