Luke 9
1 Then called hee his twelue disciples together, and gaue them power and authoritie ouer all deuils, and to heale diseases.
Jésus, ayant appelé les douze apôtres, leur donna vertu et puissance sur tous les démons, et le pouvoir de guérir les maladies.
2 And hee sent them foorth to preach the kingdome of God, and to cure the sicke.
C’est ainsi qu’il les envoya prêcher le royaume de Dieu, et rendre la santé aux malades.
3 And he sayd to them, Take nothing to your iourney, neither staues, nor scrip, neither bread, nor siluer, neither haue two coates apiece.
Et il leur dit: Ne portez rien en route, ni bâton, ni sac, ni pain, ni argent, et n’ayez point deux tuniques
4 And whatsoeuer house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
En quelque maison que vous entriez, demeurez-y, et n’en sortez point.
5 And howe many so euer will not receiue you, when ye goe out of that citie, shake off the very dust from your feete for a testimonie against them.
Quant à ceux, quels qu’ils soient, qui ne vous recevront point, secouez, en sortant de leur ville, la poussière même de vos pieds en témoignage pour eux.
6 And they went out, and went through euery towne preaching the Gospel, and healing euery where.
Etant donc partis, ils parcouraient les villages, évangélisant et guérissant en tout lieu.
7 Nowe Herod the Tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he douted, because that it was sayd of some, that Iohn was risen againe from the dead:
Cependant Hérode, le tétrarque, entendit parler de tout ce que faisait Jésus, et il ne savait que penser, parce qu’il était dit
8 And of some, that Elias had appeared: and of some, that one of the olde Prophets was risen againe.
Par quelques-uns: Jean est ressuscité d’entre les morts, par quelques autres: Elie est apparu; et par d’autres: Un des anciens prophètes est ressuscité.
9 Then Herod sayd, Iohn haue I beheaded: who then is this of whome I heare such things? and he desired to see him.
Ainsi Hérode dit: J’ai décapité Jean; quel est donc celui-ci, de qui j’entends dire moi-même de telles choses? Et il cherchait à le voir.
10 And when the Apostles returned, they tolde him what great things they had done. Then he tooke them to him, and went aside into a solitarie place, neere to the citie called Bethsaida.
Les apôtres étant revenus, racontèrent à Jésus tout ce qu’ils avaient fait; et les prenant avec lui, il se retira à l’écart dans un lieu désert, qui appartient à Bethsaïde.
11 But when the people knewe it, they followed him: and he receiued them, and spake vnto them of the kingdome of God, and healed them that had neede to be healed.
Lorsque le peuple l’eut appris, il le suivit; et Jésus les accueillit, et il leur parlait du royaume de Dieu, et il rendait la santé à ceux qui avaient besoin d’être guéris.
12 And when the day began to weare away, the twelue came, and sayd vnto him, Sende the people away, that they may goe into the townes and villages round about, and lodge, and get meate: for we are here in a desart place.
Cependant le jour commençait à baisser; et les douze s’approchant, lui dirent: Renvoyez le peuple, afin qu’il aille dans les bourgs et dans les villages d’alentour, pour y loger et trouver de la nourriture; car ici nous sommes en un lieu désert.
13 But he sayd vnto them, Giue ye them to eate. And they sayd, We haue no more but fiue loaues and two fishes, except we should go and buy meate for all this people.
Mais il leur dit: Donnez leur vous-mêmes à manger. Ils lui répondirent: Nous n’avons pas plus de cinq pains et deux poissons, à moins que nous n’allions nous-mêmes acheter des vivres pour toute cette multitude.
14 For they were about fiue thousand men. Then he sayde to his disciples, Cause them to sit downe by fifties in a company.
Or ils étaient environ cinq mille hommes. Jésus dit alors à ses disciples: Faites-les asseoir par groupes de cinquante.
15 And they did so, and caused all to sit downe.
Et ils firent ainsi: ils les firent tous asseoir.
16 Then he tooke the fiue loaues, and the two fishes, and looked vp to heauen, and blessed them, and brake, and gaue to the disciples, to set before the people.
Jésus ayant donc pris les cinq pains et les deux poissons, leva les yeux au ciel, et les bénit; puis il les rompit, et les donna à ses disciples, pour les servir aux groupes.
17 So they did all eate, and were satisfied: and there was taken vp of that remained to them, twelue baskets full of broken meate.
Et tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés. Et on emporta, de ce qui leur resta, douze corbeilles de morceaux.
18 And it came to passe, as hee was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am?
Or il arriva que comme il priait seul, n’ayant avec lui que ses disciples, il les interrogea, disant: Qui dit-on que je suis?
19 They answered, and sayd, Iohn Baptist: and others say, Elias: and some say, that one of the olde Prophets is risen againe.
Ils lui répondirent et dirent: Jean-Baptiste; d’autres. Elie; d’autres, un des anciens prophètes qui est ressuscité.
20 And he sayd vnto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answered, and sayd, That Christ of God.
Et vous, leur dit-il, qui dites-vous que je suis? Simon Pierre répondant, dit: Le Christ de Dieu.
21 And he warned and commanded them, that they should tell that to no man,
Mais il leur défendit, avec menace, de le dire à personne,
22 Saying, The Sonne of man must suffer many things and be reproued of the Elders, and of the hie Priests and Scribes, and be slaine, and the third day rise againe.
Ajoutant: Il faut que le Fils de l’homme souffre beaucoup, qu’il soit rejeté par les anciens, par les princes des prêtres et par les scribes, qu’il soit mis à mort, et qu’il ressuscite le troisième jour.
23 And he sayd to them all, If any man will come after me, let him denie himselfe, and take vp his crosse dayly, and follow me.
Il disait encore à tous: Si quelqu’un veut venir après moi, qu’il renonce à lui-même, et porte sa croix chaque jour, et me suive.
24 For whosoeuer will saue his life, shall lose it: and whosoeuer shall lose his life for my sake, the same shall saue it.
Car celui qui voudra sauver son âme, la perdra; et qui perdra son âme à cause de moi, la sauvera.
25 For what auantageth it a man, if he win the whole worlde, and destroy himselfe, or lose himselfe?
Et que sert à l’homme de gagner le monde entier à son détriment et en se perdant lui-même?
26 For whosoeuer shall be ashamed of me, and of my wordes, of him shall the Sonne of man be ashamed, when hee shall come in his glorie, and in the glorie of the Father, and of the holy Angels.
Car qui aura rougi de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l’homme rougira de lui, lorsqu’il viendra dans sa majesté et dans celle du Père et des saints anges.
27 And I tell you of a suretie, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they haue seene the kingdome of God.
Et je vous le dis en vérité: Il y en a quelques-uns ici présents qui ne goûteront point de la mort qu’ils n’aient vu le royaume de Dieu.
28 And it came to passe about an eyght dayes after those wordes, that he tooke Peter and Iohn, and Iames, and went vp into a mountaine to pray.
Or, il arriva, environ huit jours après qu’il eut dit ces paroles, qu’il prit Pierre, Jacques, et Jean, et monta sur la montagne pour prier.
29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was changed, and his garment was white and glistered.
Et, pendant qu’il priait, l’aspect de sa face devint tout autre, et son vêtement d’une éclatante blancheur.
30 And beholde, two men talked with him, which were Moses and Elias:
Et voilà que deux hommes s’entretenaient avec lui. Or c’était Moïse et Elie,
31 Which appeared in glory, and tolde of his departing, which he shoulde accomplish at Hierusalem.
Paraissant en grande majesté; et ils parlaient de sa fin, qui devait s’accomplir à Jérusalem.
32 But Peter and they that were with him, were heauie with sleepe, and when they awoke, they saw his glorie, and the two men standing with him.
Cependant Pierre et ceux qui se trouvaient avec lui, étaient appesantis par le sommeil; et se réveillant, ils virent sa gloire, et les deux hommes qui étaient avec lui.
33 And it came to passe, as they departed from him, Peter said vnto Iesus, Master, it is good for vs to be here: let vs therefore make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias, and wist not what he said.
Et il arriva que lorsqu’ils le quittèrent, Pierre dit à Jésus: Maître, il nous est bon d’être ici; faisons trois tentes, une pour vous, une pour Moïse, et une pour Elie; ne sachant ce qu’il disait.
34 Whiles he thus spake, there came a cloude and ouershadowed them, and they feared when they were entring into the cloude.
Comme il parlait ainsi, il se forma une nuée qui les enveloppa de son ombre; et les disciples furent saisis de frayeur en les voyant entrer dans la nuée.
35 And there came a voyce out of the cloud, saying, This is that my beloued Sonne, heare him.
Et une voix vint de la nuée, disant: Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé; écoutez-le.
36 And when the voyce was past, Iesus was found alone: and they kept it close, and tolde no man in those dayes any of those things which they had seene.
Et pendant que la voix parlait, Jésus se trouva seul. Mais gardant eux-mêmes le silence, ils ne dirent à personne, en ces jours-là, rien de ce qu’ils avaient vu.
37 And it came to passe on the next day, as they came downe from the mountaine, much people met him.
Il arriva que le jour suivant, comme ils descendaient de la montagne, une foule nombreuse vint au-devant d’eux.
38 And beholde, a man of the companie cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, beholde my sonne: for he is all that I haue.
Et voilà que de la foule un homme s’écria, disant: Maître, je vous supplie, jetez un regard sur mon fils; car c’est le seul que j’aie.
39 And loe, a spirit taketh him, and suddenly he crieth, and he teareth him, that he fometh, and hardly departeth from him, when he hath bruised him.
Et voilà qu’un esprit se saisit de lui, et aussitôt il crie, puis l’esprit le brise contre terre, le déchire en le faisant écumer, et à peine le quitte-t-il après l’avoir tout déchiré;
40 Nowe I haue besought thy disciples to cast him out, but they could not.
J’ai prié vos disciples de le chasser, et ils ne l’ont pu.
41 Then Iesus answered, and said, O generation faithlesse, and crooked, howe long now shall I be with you, and suffer you? bring thy sonne hither.
Jésus répondant, dit: ô race infidèle et perverse, jusqu’à quand serai-je avec vous, et vous supporterai-je? Amène ici ton fils.
42 And whiles he was yet comming, the deuill rent him, and tare him: and Iesus rebuked the vncleane spirite, and healed the childe, and deliuered him to his father.
Et comme il approchait, le démon le brisa contre terre et le déchira.
43 And they were all amased at the mightie power of God: and while they all wondered at al things, which Iesus did, he said vnto his disciples,
Alors Jésus gourmanda l’esprit impur, guérit l’enfant, et le rendit à son père.
44 Marke these wordes diligently: for it shall come to passe, that the Sonne of man shalbe deliuered into the handes of men.
Et tous étaient fort étonnés de la grandeur de Dieu; et comme ils admiraient tout ce que faisait Jésus, il dit à ses disciples: Mettez, vous autres, ces paroles dans vos cœurs: Il arrivera que le Fils de l’homme sera livré entre les mains des hommes.
45 But they vnderstood not that word: for it was hid from them, so that they could not perceiue it: and they feared to aske him of that worde.
Mais eux n’entendaient pas cette parole; elle était voilée pour eux, de sorte qu’ils ne la comprenaient point; et ils craignaient de l’interroger sur cette parole.
46 Then there arose a disputation among them, which of them should be the greatest.
Or une pensée leur vint à l’esprit, lequel d’entre eux était le plus grand?
47 When Iesus sawe the thoughtes of their heartes, he tooke a litle childe, and set him by him,
Mais Jésus, voyant les pensées de leur cœur, prit un enfant, le plaça près de lui,
48 And said vnto them, Whosoeuer receiueth this litle childe in my Name, receiueth me: and whosoeuer shall receiue me, receiueth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, he shall be great.
Et leur dit: Quiconque recevra cet enfant en mon nom, me reçoit; et quiconque me reçoit, reçoit celui qui m’a envoyé. Car celui qui est le plus petit entre vous tous, celui-là est le plus grand.
49 And Iohn answered and saide, Master, we sawe one casting out deuils in thy Name, and we forbad him, because he followeth thee not with vs.
Alors prenant la parole, Jean dit: Maître, nous avons vu un homme qui chasse les démons en votre nom, et nous l’en avons empêché, parce qu’il ne vous suit pas avec nous.
50 Then Iesus saide vnto him, Forbid ye him not: for he that is not against vs, is with vs.
Et Jésus lui dit: Ne l’en empêchez point; car qui n’est point contre vous est pour vous.
51 And it came to passe, when the dayes were accomplished, that he should be receiued vp, he setled himselfe fully to goe to Hierusalem,
Or, il arriva que, quand les jours de son ascension s’accomplissaient, il fixa son visage pour aller à Jérusalem.
52 And sent messengers before him: and they went and entred into a towne of the Samaritans, to prepare him lodging.
Il envoya donc devant lui des messagers, qui, étant partis, entrèrent dans une ville des Samaritains, pour lui préparer un logement;
53 But they woulde not receiue him, because his behauiour was, as though he would go to Hierusalem.
Mais il ne fut pas reçu, parce que son visage était celui de quelqu’un allant à Jérusalem.
54 And when his disciples, Iames and Iohn sawe it, they saide, Lord, wilt thou that we commaund, that fire come downe from heauen, and consume them, euen as Elias did?
Ce qu’ayant vu, ses disciples Jacques et Jean dirent: Seigneur, voulez-vous que nous disions que le feu descende du ciel, et les consume?
55 But Iesus turned about, and rebuked them, and said, Ye knowe not of what spirit ye are.
Mais se tournant, il les gourmanda, disant: Vous ne savez pas de quel esprit vous êtes.
56 For the Sonne of man is not come to destroy mens liues, but to saue them. Then they went to another towne.
Le Fils de l’homme n’est pas venu perdre les âmes, mais les sauver. Et ils s’en allèrent dans un autre village.
57 And it came to passe that as they went in the way, a certaine man said vnto him, I will follow thee, Lord, whithersoeuer thou goest.
Et il arriva, comme ils étaient en chemin, que quelqu’un lui dit: Je vous suivrai partout où vous irez.
58 And Iesus saide vnto him, The foxes haue holes, and the birdes of the heauen nestes, but the Sonne of man hath not whereon to lay his head.
Jésus lui dit: Les renards ont des tanières, et les oiseaux du ciel des nids; mais le Fils de l’homme n’a pas où reposer la tête.
59 But he said vnto another, Followe me. And the same said, Lord, suffer me first to goe and burie my father.
Mais il dit à un autre: Suis-moi. Celui-ci répondit: Seigneur, permettez-moi d’aller d’abord, et d’ensevelir mon père.
60 And Iesus said vnto him, Let the dead burie their dead: but go thou, and preache the kingdome of God.
Et Jésus lui dit: Laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts; pour toi, va, et annonce le royaume de Dieu.
61 Then another saide, I will follow thee, Lord: but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at mine house.
Un autre dit: Je vous suivrai. Seigneur; mais permettez-moi d’abord de renoncer à ce qui est dans ma maison.
62 And Iesus saide vnto him, No man that putteth his hand to the plough, and looketh backe, is apt to the kingdome of God.
Jésus lui répondit: Quiconque ayant mis la main à la charrue, regarde en arrière, n’est pas propre au royaume de Dieu.
