Luke 7
1 When hee had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entred into Capernaum.
Après qu'il eut achevé de faire entendre au peuple tous ses discours, Jésus entra dans Capharnaüm.
2 And a certaine Ceturions seruant was sicke and readie to die, which was deare vnto him.
Or, un centurion avait un serviteur malade, qui allait mourir et il l'aimait beaucoup.
3 And when he heard of Iesus, hee sent vnto him the Elders of the Iewes, beseeching him that he would come, and heale his seruant.
Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il lui députa quelques anciens d'entre les Juifs, pour le prier de venir guérir son serviteur.
4 So they came to Iesus, and besought him instantly, saying that hee was worthy that hee should doe this for him:
Ceux-ci étant arrivés vers Jésus, le prièrent avec grande instance, en disant: " Il mérite que vous fassiez cela pour lui;
5 For he loueth, said they, our nation, and he hath built vs a Synagogue.
car il aime notre nation, et il a même bâti notre synagogue. "
6 Then Iesus went with them: but when he was now not farre from the house, the Centurion sent friendes to him, saying vnto him, Lord, trouble not thy selfe: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter vnder my roofe:
Jésus s'en alla donc avec eux. Il n'était plus loin de la maison, lorsque le centurion envoya quelques-uns de ses amis lui dire: " Seigneur, ne prenez pas tant de peine, car je ne suis pas digne que vous entriez sous mon toit;
7 Wherefore I thought not my selfe worthy to come vnto thee: but say the word, and my seruant shalbe whole:
aussi ne me suis-je pas même jugé digne de venir auprès de vous; mais dites un mot, et mon serviteur sera guéri.
8 For I likewise am a man set vnder authoritie, and haue vnder mee souldiers, and I say vnto one, Goe, and he goeth: and to another, Come, and hee commeth: and to my seruant, Doe this, and he doeth it.
Car moi, qui suis soumis à des supérieurs, j'ai des soldats sous mes ordres, et je dis à l'un: Va, et il va; à un autre: Viens, et il vient; et à mon serviteur: Fais cela, et il le fait. "
9 When Iesus heard these things, he marueiled at him, and turned him, and said to the people, that followed him, I say vnto you, I haue not found so great faith, no not in Israel.
Ce qu'ayant entendu, Jésus admira cet homme, et, se tournant vers la foule qui le suivait, il dit: " Je vous le dis, en vérité, en Israël même je n'ai pas trouvé une si grande foi. "
10 And when they that were sent, turned backe to the house, they founde the seruant that was sicke, whole.
A leur retour dans la maison du centurion, les envoyés trouvèrent guéri le serviteur qui était malade.
11 And it came to passe the day after, that he went into a citie called Nain, and many of his disciples went with him, and a great multitude.
Quelques temps après, Jésus se rendait à une ville appelée Naïm; de nombreux disciples et une grande foule faisaient route avec lui.
12 Nowe when hee came neere to the gate of the citie, behold, there was a dead man caried out, who was the onely begotten sonne of his mother, which was a widowe, and much people of the citie was with her.
Comme il arrivait près de la porte de la ville, il se trouva qu'on emportait un mort, fils unique de sa mère, et celle-ci était veuve, et beaucoup de gens de la ville l'accompagnaient.
13 And when the Lord sawe her, he had compassion on her, and said vnto her, Weepe not.
Le Seigneur l'ayant vue, fut touché de compassion pour elle, et lui dit: " Ne pleurez pas. "
14 And he went and touched the coffin (and they that bare him, stoode still) and he said, Yong man, I say vnto thee, Arise.
Et s'approchant, il toucha le cercueil, les porteurs s'étant arrêtés; puis il dit: " Jeune homme, je te le commande, lève-toi. "
15 And he that was dead, sate vp, and began to speake, and he deliuered him to his mother.
Aussitôt le mort se leva sur son séant, et se mit à parler, et Jésus le rendit à sa mère.
16 Then there came a feare on them all, and they glorified God, saying, A great Prophet is risen among vs, and God hath visited his people.
Tous furent saisis de crainte, et ils glorifiaient Dieu en disant: " Un grand prophète a paru parmi nous, et Dieu a visité son peuple. "
17 And this rumour of him went foorth throughout all Iudea, and throughout all the region round about.
Et cette parole prononcée à son sujet se répandit dans toute la Judée et dans tout le pays d'alentour.
18 And the disciples of Iohn shewed him of all these things.
Les disciples de Jean lui ayant rapporté toutes ces choses,
19 So Iohn called vnto him two certaine men of his disciples, and sent them to Iesus, saying, Art thou hee that should come, or shall we waite for another?
il en appela deux, et les envoya vers Jésus pour lui dire: " Etes-vous celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre? "
20 And when the men were come vnto him, they said, Iohn Baptist hath sent vs vnto thee, saying, Art thou hee that should come, or shall we waite for another?
Etant donc venus à lui: " Jean-Baptiste, lui dirent-ils, nous a envoyés vers vous pour vous demander: Etes-vous celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre? "
21 And at that time, he cured many of their sickenesses, and plagues, and of euill spirites, and vnto many blinde men he gaue sight freely.
— A ce moment même, Jésus guérit un grand nombre de personnes affligées par la maladie, les infirmités, ou les esprits malins, et accorda la vue à plusieurs aveugles. —
22 And Iesus answered, and saide vnto them, Goe your wayes and shewe Iohn, what things ye haue seene and heard: that the blinde see, the halt goe, the lepers are cleansed, the deafe heare, the dead are raised, and the poore receiue the Gospel.
Puis il répondit aux envoyés: " Allez rapporter à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu: les aveugles voient, les boiteux marchent, les lépreux sont purifiés, les sourds entendent, les morts ressuscitent, les pauvres sont évangélisés.
23 And blessed is hee, that shall not be offended in me.
Heureux celui qui ne se scandalise pas en moi! "
24 And when the messengers of Iohn were departed, hee began to speake vnto the people, of Iohn, What went ye out into the wildernes to see? A reede shaken with the winde?
Lorsque les envoyés de Jean furent partis, Jésus se mit à dire au peuple, au sujet de Jean: " Qu'êtes-vous allés voir au désert? Un roseau agité par le vent?
25 But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in soft rayment? beholde, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and liue delicately, are in Kings courtes.
Qu'êtes-vous allés voir au désert? Un homme vêtu d'habits moelleux? Mais ceux qui portent des vêtements précieux et vivent dans les délices sont dans les palais royaux.
26 But what went ye foorth to see? A Prophet? yea, I say to you, and greater then a Prophet.
Enfin qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un prophète? Oui, je vous le dis, et plus qu'un prophète.
27 This is he of whom it is written, Beholde, I sende my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
C'est de lui qu'il est écrit: J'envoie mon messager devant votre face, pour vous précéder et vous préparer la voie.
28 For I say vnto you, there is no greater Prophet then Iohn, among them that are begotten of women: neuerthelesse, hee that is the least in the kingdome of God, is greater then he.
Je vous le dis en effet, parmi les enfants des femmes, il n'y a pas de prophète plus grand que Jean-Baptiste; mais le plus petit dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui.
29 Then all the people that heard, and the Publicanes iustified God, being baptized with the baptisme of Iohn.
Tout le peuple qui l'a entendu, et les publicains eux-mêmes, ont justifié Dieu, en se faisant baptiser du baptême de Jean,
30 But the Pharises and the expounders of the Law despised the counsell of God against themselues, and were not baptized of him.
tandis que les Pharisiens et les Docteurs de la Loi ont annulé le dessein de Dieu à leur égard, en ne se faisant pas baptiser par lui. "
31 And the Lord saide, Whereunto shall I liken the men of this generation? and what thing are they like vnto?
" A qui donc, dit encore le Seigneur, comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération? A qui sont-ils semblables?
32 They are like vnto litle children sitting in the market place, and crying one to another, and saying, We haue piped vnto you, and ye haue not daunced: we haue mourned to you, and ye haue not wept.
Ils sont semblables à des enfants assis dans la place publique, qui s'interpellent entre eux et se disent les uns aux autres: Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n'avez pas dansé; nous vous avons chanté des complaintes, et vous n'avez point pleuré.
33 For Iohn Baptist came, neither eating bread, nor drinking wine: and ye say, He hath the deuil.
Car Jean-Baptiste est venu, ne mangeant point de pain et ne buvant point de vin, et vous dites: Il est possédé du démon.
34 The Sonne of man is come, and eateth and drinketh: and ye say, Beholde, a man which is a glutton, and a drinker of wine, a friend of Publicanes and sinners:
Le Fils de l'homme est venu mangeant et buvant, et vous dites: C'est un homme de bonne chère et un buveur, un ami des publicains et des gens de mauvaise vie.
35 But wisdome is iustified of all her children.
Mais la Sagesse a été justifiée par tous ses enfants. "
36 And one of the Pharises desired him that hee would eate with him: and hee went into the Pharises house, and sate downe at table.
Un Pharisien ayant prié Jésus de manger avec lui, il entra dans sa maison et se mit à table.
37 And beholde, a woman in the citie, which was a sinner, when she knewe that Iesus sate at table in the Pharises house, shee brought a boxe of oyntment.
Et voici qu'une femme qui menait dans la ville une vie déréglée, ayant su qu'il était à table dans la maison du Pharisien, apporta un vase d'albâtre plein de parfum;
38 And shee stoode at his feete behinde him weeping, and began to wash his feete with teares, and did wipe them with the heares of her head, and kissed his feete, and anoynted them with the oyntment.
et se tenant derrière lui, à ses pieds, tout en pleurs, elle se mit à les arroser de ses larmes et à les essuyer avec les cheveux de sa tête, et elle les baisait et les oignait de parfum.
39 Nowe when the Pharise which bade him, saw it, he spake within himselfe, saying, If this man were a Prophet, hee woulde surely haue knowen who, and what maner of woman this is which toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
A cette vue, le Pharisien qui l'avait invité, dit en lui-même: " Si cet homme était prophète, il saurait qui et de quelle espèce est la femme qui le touche, et que c'est une pécheresse. "
40 And Iesus answered, and saide vnto him, Simon, I haue somewhat to say vnto thee. And he said, Master, say on.
Alors prenant la parole, Jésus lui dit: " Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire. " — " Maître, parlez ", dit-il. —
41 There was a certaine lender which had two detters: the one ought fiue hundreth pence, and the other fiftie:
" Un créancier avait deux débiteurs; l'un devait cinq cents deniers et l'autre cinquante.
42 When they had nothing to pay, he forgaue them both: Which of them therefore, tell mee, will loue him most?
Comme ils n'avaient pas de quoi payer leur dette, il en fit grâce à tous deux. Lequel donc l'aimera davantage? "
43 Simon answered, and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgaue most. And he said vnto him, Thou hast truely iudged.
Simon répondit: " Celui, je pense, auquel il a fait grâce de la plus forte somme. " Jésus lui dit: " Tu as bien jugé. "
44 Then he turned to the woman, and said vnto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entred into thine house, and thou gauest mee no water to my feete: but she hath washed my feete with teares, and wiped them with the heares of her head.
Et, se tournant vers la femme, il dit à Simon: " Vois-tu cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison, et tu n'as pas versé d'eau sur mes pieds; mais elle, elle les a mouillés de ses larmes, et les a essuyés avec ses cheveux.
45 Thou gauest me no kisse: but she, since the time I came in, hath not ceased to kisse my feete.
Tu ne m'as point donné de baiser; mais elle, depuis que je suis entré, elle n'a cessé de me baiser les pieds.
46 Mine head with oyle thou didest not anoint: but she hath anoynted my feete with oyntment.
Tu n'as pas oint ma tête d'huile, mais elle a oint mes pieds de parfum.
47 Wherefore I say vnto thee, many sinnes are forgiuen her: for she loued much. To whom a litle is forgiuen, he doeth loue a litle.
C'est pourquoi, je te le déclare, ses nombreux péchés lui sont pardonnés, parce qu'elle a beaucoup aimé; mais celui à qui l'on pardonne peu, aime peu. "
48 And he saide vnto her, Thy sinnes are forgiuen thee.
Puis il dit à la femme: " Tes péchés te sont pardonnés. "
49 And they that sate at table with him, began to say within themselues, Who is this that euen forgiueth sinnes?
Et ceux qui étaient à table avec lui se mirent à dire en eux-mêmes: " Qui est celui-ci qui remet même les péchés? "
50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saued thee: goe in peace.
Mais Jésus dit à la femme: " Ta foi t'a sauvée, va en paix. "
