Judges 4
1 And the children of Israel began againe to do wickedly in the sight of the Lord when Ehud was dead.
Die Israeliten thaten jedoch aufs Neue, was Jahwe mißfiel - Ehud war nämlich gestorben.
2 And the Lord sold them into the hande of Iabin King of Canaan, that reigned in Hazor, whose chiefe Captaine was called Sisera, which dwelt in Harosheth of the Gentiles.
Da verkaufte sie Jahwe in die Gewalt Jabins, des Königs von Kanaan, der in Hazor regierte. Sein Feldherr aber war Sisera; dieser wohnte im Haroseth der Heiden.
3 Then the children of Israel cryed vnto the Lord: (for he had nine hundreth charets of yron, and twentie yeeres he had vexed the children of Israel very sore)
Da schrien die Israeliten zu Jahwe um Hilfe. Er besaß nämlich 900 eiserne Wagen und er bedrückte die Israeliten gewaltig, zwanzig Jahre lang.
4 And at that time Deborah a Prophetesse the wife of Lapidoth iudged Israel.
Und Debora, eine Prophetin, das Weib Lapidoths, die sprach Israel zu jener Zeit Recht.
5 And this Deborah dwelt vnder a palme tree, betweene Ramah and Beth-el in mount Ephraim, and the children of Israel came vp to her for iudgement.
Und zwar wohnte sie unter der Deborapalme zwischen Rama und Bethel auf dem Gebirge Ephraim, und die Israeliten pflegten zu ihr hinzugehen, um sich Urteilssprüche zu holen.
6 Then shee sent and called Barak the sonne of Abinoam out of Kadesh of Naphtali, and sayd vnto him, Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Goe, and drawe towarde mount Tabor, and take with thee ten thousande men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?
Die sandte hin und ließ Barak, den Sohn Abinoams, aus Kedes in Naphthali rufen und sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich! Jahwe, der Gott Israels, gebietet: Mache dich auf den Weg, ziehe hin auf den Berg Thabor und nimm mit dir 10000 Mann aus den Naphthaliten und den Sebuloniten;
7 And I wil drawe vnto thee to the riuer Kishon Sisera, the captaine of Iabins armie with his charets, and his multitude, and wil deliuer him into thine hand.
dann werde ich Sisera, den Feldherrn Jabins, samt seinen Wagen und seinen Haufen zu dir hin nach dem Bache Kison bringen und werde ihn in deine Gewalt geben.
8 And Barak sayd vnto her, If thou wilt go with me, I will go: but if thou wilt not goe with me, I will not go.
Barak antwortete ihr: Wenn du mit mir gehst, will ich gehen; wenn du aber nicht mit mir gehst, gehe ich nicht!
9 Then shee answered, I will surely goe with thee, but this iourney that thou takest, shall not be for thine honour: for the Lord shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose and went with Barak to Kedesh.
Sie erwiderte: Ich werde in der That mit dir gehen; doch wird der Ruhm auf dem Wege, den du gehst, nicht dir zufallen, sondern in eines Weibes Gewalt wird Jahwe Sisera verkaufen! Und Debora machte sich auf und ging mit Barak nach Kedes.
10 And Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he went vp on his feete with ten thousand men, and Deborah went vp with him.
Hierauf entbot Barak Sebulon und Naphthali nach Kedes; 10000 Mann folgten ihm auf dem Fuße hinauf, und auch Debora zog mit ihm hinauf.
11 (Now Heber the Kenite, which was of the children of Hobab the father in lawe of Moses, was departed from the Kenites, and pitched his tent vntill the playne of Zaanaim, which is by Kedesh)
Der Keniter Heber aber hatte sich von Kain, von den Nachkommen Hobabs, des Schwiegervaters Moses, getrennt und schlug hin und her sein Zelt auf bis zur Eiche bei Zaanaim, das bei Kedes liegt.
12 Then they shewed Sisera, that Barak the sonne of Abinoam was gone vp to mout Tabor.
Als man Sisera meldete, daß Barak, der Sohn Abinoams, auf den Berg Thabor gezogen sei,
13 And Sisera called for all his charets, euen nine hundreth charets of yron, and all the people that were with him from Harosheth of the Gentiles, vnto the riuer Kishon.
da entbot Sisera alle seine Wagen, 900 eiserne Wagen, und das gesamte Kriegsvolk, das er um sich hatte, aus dem Haroseth der Heiden an den Bach Kison.
14 Then Deborah sayd vnto Barak, Vp: for this is the day that the Lord hath deliuered Sisera into thine hand. Is not the Lord gone out before thee? So Barak went downe from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
Da sprach Debora zu Barak: Auf! denn dies ist der Tag, an dem Jahwe Sisera in deine Gewalt gegeben hat; ist doch Jahwe selbst vor dir her ausgezogen! So stieg denn Barak vom Berge Thabor herab und 10000 Mann folgten ihm.
15 And the Lord destroyed Sisera and all his charets, and al his hoste with the edge of the sword before Barak, so that Sisera lighted downe off his charet, and fled away on his feete.
Da setzte Jahwe Sisera und alle die Wagen und sein ganzes Heer durch scharfes Dreinschlagen vor Barak her in Verwirrung, und Sisera stieg vom Wagen und floh zu Fuße.
16 But Barak pursued after the charets, and after the hoste vnto Harosheth of the Gentiles: and all the hoste of Sisera fel vpon the edge of the sworde: there was not a man left.
Barak aber jagte hinter den Wagen und dem Heere her bis zum Haroseth der Heiden und das ganze Heer Siseras fiel durchs Schwert, und auch nicht einer blieb übrig.
17 Howbeit Sisera fled away on his feete to the tent of Iael the wife of Heber the Kenite: (for peace was betweene Iabin the king of Hazor, and betweene the house of Heber the Kenite)
Sisera aber war zu Fuße zum Zelte Jaels, des Weibes des Keniters Heber, geflohen; denn zwischen Jabin, dem Könige von Hazor, und dem Hause des Keniters Heber herrschte Friede.
18 And Iael went out to meete Sisera, and sayd vnto him, Turne in, my lord, turne in to me: feare not. And when he had turned in vnto her into her tent, she couered him with a mantell.
Da trat Jael heraus Sisera entgegen und sprach zu ihm: Kehre ein, o Herr, kehre ein zu mir; du hast nichts zu fürchten! Da kehrte er zu ihr ein ins Zelt, und sie deckte ihn mit einem Teppich zu.
19 And he said vnto her, Giue me, I pray thee, a litle water to drinke: for I am thirstie. And shee opened a bottel of milke, and gaue him drinke, and couered him.
Er aber bat sie: Willst du mir nicht ein wenig Wasser zu trinken geben? ich bin durstig! Da öffnete sie den Milchschlauch und gab ihm zu trinken; sodann deckte sie ihn wieder zu.
20 Againe he sayde vnto her, Stande in the doore of the tent, and when any man doth come and enquire of thee, saying, Is any man there? thou shalt say, Nay.
Hierauf bat er sie: Tritt an die Thüre des Zeltes, und wenn jemand kommt und dich fragt und spricht: Ist jemand hier? so sage: Nein!
21 Then Iael Hebers wife tooke a nayle of the tent, and tooke an hammer in her hande, and went softly vnto him, and smote the nayle into his temples, and fastened it into the grounde, (for he was fast a sleepe and weary) and so he dyed.
Da ergriff Jael, das Weib Hebers, einen Zeltpflock, nahm den Hammer in die Hand, trat leise an ihn heran und schlug ihm den Pflock durch die Schläfe, so daß er in die Erde eindrang; er war nämlich fest eingeschlafen. Da wurde er ohnmächtig und starb.
22 And behold, as Barak pursued after Sisera, Iael came out to meete him, and sayd vnto him, Come, and I wil shewe thee the man, whome thou seekest: and when he came into her tent, behold, Sisera lay dead, and the nayle in his temples.
Da gerade erschien Barak, in der Verfolgung Siseras begriffen. Jael aber trat hinaus ihm entgegen und rief ihm zu: Komm, ich will dir den Mann zeigen, den du suchst! Und als er zu ihr eintrat, fand er Sisera tot daliegend, und der Pflock stak noch in seiner Schläfe.
23 So God brought downe Iabin the King of Canaan that day before the children of Israel.
So ließ Gott damals Jabin, den König von Kanaan, vor den Israeliten unterliegen.
24 And the hande of the children of Israel prospered, and preuailed against Iabin the King of Canaan, vntill they had destroyed Iabin King of Canaan.
Und die Hand der Israeliten lastete immer schwerer auf Jabin, dem Könige von Kanaan, bis sie Jabin, den König von Kanaan, vernichtet hatten.
