Judges 11
1 Then Gilead begate Iphtah, and Iphtah the Gileadite was a valiant man, but the sonne of an harlot.
Jefté, el Galaadita, era un hombre de gran valor. Era hijo de una prostituta. Galaad fue el padre de Jefté.
2 And Gileads wife bare him sonnes, and when the womans children were come to age, they thrust out Iphtah, and sayd vnto him, Thou shalt not inherite in our fathers house: for thou art the sonne of a strange woman.
La mujer de Galaad le dio hijos. Cuando los hijos de su mujer crecieron, expulsaron a Jefté y le dijeron: “No heredarás en la casa de nuestro padre, porque eres hijo de otra mujer”.
3 Then Iphtah fledde from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there gathered idle fellowes to Iphtah, and went out with him.
Entonces Jefté huyó de sus hermanos y vivió en la tierra de Tob. Los forajidos se unieron a Jefté y salieron con él.
4 And in processe of time the children of Ammon made warre with Israel.
Después de un tiempo, los hijos de Amón hicieron la guerra contra Israel.
5 And when the children of Ammon fought with Israel, the Elders of Gilead went to fet Iphtah out of the land of Tob.
Cuando los hijos de Amón hicieron la guerra contra Israel, los ancianos de Galaad fueron a sacar a Jefté de la tierra de Tob.
6 And they saide vnto Iphtah, Come and be our captaine, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
Le dijeron a Jefté: “Ven y sé nuestro jefe, para que luchemos contra los hijos de Amón”.
7 Iphtah then answered the Elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expell me out of my fathers house? how then come you vnto me now in time of your tribulation?
Jefté dijo a los ancianos de Galaad: “¿No me odiasteis y me expulsasteis de la casa de mi padre? ¿Por qué habéis venido a mí ahora que estáis en apuros?”
8 Then the Elders of Gilead saide vnto Iphtah, Therefore we turne againe to thee now, that thou mayest goe with vs, and fight against the children of Ammon, and bee our head ouer all the inhabitants of Gilead.
Los ancianos de Galaad dijeron a Jefté: “Por eso nos hemos vuelto a ti ahora, para que vayas con nosotros y luches contra los hijos de Amón. Tú serás nuestro jefe sobre todos los habitantes de Galaad”.
9 And Iphtah said vnto the Elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home againe to fight against the children of Ammon, if the Lord giue them before me, shall I be your head?
Jefté dijo a los ancianos de Galaad: “Si me lleváis de nuevo a casa para luchar contra los hijos de Amón, y Yahvé los libra antes que yo, ¿seré yo vuestro jefe?”
10 And the Elders of Gilead saide to Iphtah, The Lord be witnesse betweene vs, if we doe not according to thy wordes.
Los ancianos de Galaad dijeron a Jefté: “Yahvé será testigo entre nosotros. Ciertamente haremos lo que dices”.
11 Then Iphtah went with the Elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captaine ouer them: and Iphtah rehearsed all his wordes before the Lord in Mizpeh.
Entonces Jefté se fue con los ancianos de Galaad, y el pueblo lo nombró jefe y rector de ellos. Jefté pronunció todas sus palabras ante el Señor en Mizpa.
12 Then Iphtah sent messengers vnto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to doe with me, that thou art come against me, to fight in my lande?
Jefté envió mensajeros al rey de los hijos de Amón, diciendo: “¿Qué tienes que ver conmigo, que has venido a luchar contra mi tierra?”
13 And the King of the children of Ammon answered vnto the messengers of Iphtah, Because Israel tooke my lande, when they came vp from Egypt, from Arnon vnto Iabbok, and vnto Iorden: now therefore restore those lands quietly.
El rey de los hijos de Amón respondió a los mensajeros de Jefté: “Porque Israel me quitó mi tierra cuando subió de Egipto, desde el Arnón hasta el Jaboc y el Jordán. Ahora, pues, devuelve ese territorio en paz”.
14 Yet Iphtah sent messengers againe vnto the King of the children of Ammon,
Jefté volvió a enviar mensajeros al rey de los hijos de Amón;
15 And said vnto him, Thus saith Iphtah, Israel tooke not the lande of Moab, nor the lande of the children of Ammon.
y le dijo: “Jefté dice: Israel no se apoderó de la tierra de Moab, ni de la tierra de los hijos de Amón;
16 But when Israel came vp from Egypt, and walked through the wildernesse vnto the redde Sea, then they came to Kadesh.
pero cuando subieron de Egipto, e Israel atravesó el desierto hasta el Mar Rojo, y llegó a Cades,
17 And Israel sent messengers vnto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, goe thorowe thy lande: but the King of Edom woulde not consent: and also they sent vnto the King of Moab, but he would not: therefore Israel abode in Kadesh.
entonces Israel envió mensajeros al rey de Edom, diciendo: “Por favor, déjame pasar por tu tierra”; pero el rey de Edom no le hizo caso. Del mismo modo, envió al rey de Moab, pero éste se negó; así que Israel se quedó en Cades.
18 Then they went through the wildernesse, and compassed the lande of Edom, and the lande of Moab, and came by the Eastside of the lande of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, and came not within the coast of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
Luego atravesaron el desierto y rodearon la tierra de Edom y la tierra de Moab, y llegaron por el lado oriental de la tierra de Moab, y acamparon al otro lado del Arnón; pero no llegaron a la frontera de Moab, porque el Arnón era la frontera de Moab.
19 Also Israel sent messengers vnto Sihon, King of the Amorites, the King of Heshbon, and Israel said vnto him, Let vs passe, we pray thee, by thy lande vnto our place.
Israel envió mensajeros a Sehón, rey de los amorreos, el rey de Hesbón, y le dijo: “Por favor, déjanos pasar por tu tierra hasta mi lugar.
20 But Sihon consented not to Israel, that he shoulde goe through his coast: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Iahaz, and fought with Israel.
Pero Sehón no confió en que Israel pasara por su frontera, sino que reunió a todo su pueblo, acampó en Jahaz y luchó contra Israel.
21 And the Lord God of Israel gaue Sihon and all his folke into the handes of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the lande of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that countrey:
Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, entregó a Sehón y a todo su pueblo en manos de Israel, y ellos los hirieron. Así, Israel poseyó toda la tierra de los amorreos, los habitantes de ese país.
22 And they possessed all the coast of the Amorites, from Arnon vnto Iabbok, and from the wildernesse euen vnto Iorden.
Poseyeron toda la frontera de los amorreos, desde Arnón hasta Jaboc, y desde el desierto hasta el Jordán.
23 Nowe therefore the Lord God of Israel hath cast out the Amorites before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possesse it?
Así que ahora Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, ha desposeído a los amorreos de la presencia de su pueblo Israel, ¿y tú debes poseerlos?
24 Wouldest not thou possesse that which Chemosh thy god giueth thee to possesse? So whomesoeuer the Lord our God driueth out before vs, them will we possesse.
¿No vas a poseer lo que Quemos, tu dios, te da para que lo poseas? Así que a quien el Señor, nuestro Dios, haya despojado de su presencia ante nosotros, a él lo poseeremos.
25 And art thou nowe farre better then Balak the sonne of Zippor King of Moab? did he not striue with Israel and fight against them,
¿Acaso eres mejor que Balac, hijo de Zipor, rey de Moab? ¿Acaso luchó él alguna vez contra Israel, o peleó contra ellos?
26 When Israel dwelt in Heshbon and in her townes, and in Aroer and in her townes, and in all the cities that are by the coastes of Arnon, three hundreth yeeres? why did ye not then recouer them in that space?
¡Israel vivió en Hesbón y sus pueblos, en Aroer y sus pueblos, y en todas las ciudades que están a la orilla del Arnón durante trescientos años! ¿Por qué no los recuperaste en ese tiempo?
27 Wherefore, I haue not offended thee: but thou doest me wrong to warre against me. The Lord the Iudge be iudge this day betweene the children of Israel, and the children of Ammon.
Por lo tanto, yo no he pecado contra ti, sino que tú me haces mal al guerrear contra mí. Que el Juez Yahvé sea hoy juez entre los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Amón”.
28 Howbeit the King of the children of Ammon hearkened not vnto the wordes of Iphtah, which he had sent him.
Sin embargo, el rey de los hijos de Amón no escuchó las palabras de Jefté que le envió.
29 Then the Spirite of the Lord came vpon Iphtah, and he passed ouer to Gilead and to Manasseh, and came to Mizpeh in Gilead, and from Mizpeh in Gilead he went vnto the children of Ammon.
Entonces el Espíritu de Yahvé vino sobre Jefté, y pasó por Galaad y Manasés, y pasó por Mizpa de Galaad, y de Mizpa de Galaad pasó a los hijos de Ammón.
30 And Iphtah vowed a vowe vnto the Lord, and said, If thou shalt deliuer the children of Ammon into mine handes,
Jefté hizo un voto a Yahvé y dijo: “Si en verdad entregas a los hijos de Amón en mi mano,
31 Then that thing that commeth out of the doores of mine house to meete me, when I come home in peace from the children of Ammon, shall be the Lordes, and I will offer it for a burnt offering.
entonces será que todo lo que salga de las puertas de mi casa a recibirme cuando regrese en paz de los hijos de Amón, será de Yahvé, y lo ofreceré en holocausto.”
32 And so Iphtah went vnto the children of Ammon to fight against them, and the Lord deliuered them into his handes.
Entonces Jefté pasó a los hijos de Amón para combatirlos, y Yahvé los entregó en su mano.
33 And he smote them from Aroer euen till thou come to Minnith, twentie cities, and so foorth to Abel of the vineyardes, with an exceeding great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were humbled before the children of Israel.
Los hirió desde Aroer hasta llegar a Minnith, veinte ciudades, y hasta Abelcheramim, con una matanza muy grande. Así los hijos de Amón fueron sometidos ante los hijos de Israel.
34 Nowe when Iphtah came to Mizpeh vnto his house, beholde, his daughter came out to meete him with timbrels and daunces, which was his onely childe: he had none other sonne, nor daughter.
Jefté llegó a Mizpa a su casa, y he aquí que su hija salió a recibirlo con panderetas y danzas. Era su única hija. Además de ella no tenía ni hijo ni hija.
35 And when hee sawe her, hee rent his clothes, and saide, Alas my daughter, thou hast brought me lowe, and art of them that trouble me: for I haue opened my mouth vnto the Lord, and can not goe backe.
Cuando la vio, se rasgó las vestiduras y dijo: “¡Ay, hija mía! Me has hecho caer muy bajo, y eres de las que me molestan; porque he abierto mi boca a Yahvé, y no puedo volver atrás.”
36 And she said vnto him, My father, if thou hast opened thy mouth vnto the Lord, doe with me as thou hast promised, seeing that the Lord hath auenged thee of thine enemies the children of Ammon.
Ella le dijo: “Padre mío, has abierto tu boca a Yahvé; haz conmigo lo que ha salido de tu boca, porque Yahvé se ha vengado de tus enemigos, de los hijos de Amón.”
37 Also she saide vnto her father, Doe thus much for me: suffer me two moneths, that I may goe to the mountaines, and bewaile my virginitie, I and my fellowes.
Entonces ella dijo a su padre: “Que se haga esto por mí. Déjame dos meses, para que me vaya y baje a los montes, y llore mi virginidad, yo y mis compañeras.”
38 And he sayde, Goe: and he sent her away two moneths: so she went with her companions, and lamented her virginitie vpon the moutaines.
Le dijo: “Vete”. La envió por dos meses; y ella partió, ella y sus compañeras, y lloró su virginidad en las montañas.
39 And after the ende of two moneths, she turned againe vnto her father, who did with her according to his vowe which he had vowed, and she had knowen no man. and it was a custome in Israel:
Al cabo de dos meses, volvió a su padre, quien hizo con ella lo que había prometido. Era virgen. Se convirtió en costumbre en Israel
40 The daughters of Israel went yere by yere to lament the daughter of Iphtah the Gileadite, foure dayes in a yeere.
que las hijas de Israel fueran anualmente a festejar a la hija de Jefté Galaadita cuatro días al año.
