Judges 1
1 After that Ioshua was dead, the children of Israel asked ye Lord, saying, Who shall goe vp for vs against the Canaanites, to fight first against them?
Or il arriva qu'après la mort de Josué les enfants d'Israël consultèrent l'Eternel, en disant: Qui de nous montera le premier contre les Cananéens pour leur faire la guerre?
2 And the Lord said, Iudah shall goe vp: behold, I haue giuen the land into his hande.
Et l'Eternel répondit: Juda montera; voici, j'ai livré le pays entre ses mains.
3 And Iudah said vnto Simeon his brother, Come vp with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites: and I likewise will goe with thee into thy lot: so Simeon went with him.
Et Juda dit à Siméon son frère: Monte avec moi en mon partage, et nous ferons la guerre aux Cananéens; et j'irai aussi avec toi en ton partage. Ainsi Siméon alla avec lui.
4 Then Iudah went vp, and the Lord deliuered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hands, and they slew of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
Juda donc monta, et l'Eternel livra les Cananéens et les Phérésiens entre leurs mains; et ils battirent en Bézec dix mille hommes.
5 And they founde Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and slewe the Canaanites, and the Perizzites.
Or ayant trouvé Adoni-bézec en Bézec, ils combattirent contre lui, et frappèrent les Cananéens et les Phérésiens.
6 But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off the thumbes of his hands and of his feete.
Et Adoni-bézec s'enfuit, mais ils le poursuivirent; et l'ayant pris, ils lui coupèrent les pouces de ses mains et de ses pieds.
7 And Adoni-bezek said, Seuentie Kings hauing the thumbes of their hands and of their feete cut off, gathered bread vnder my table: as I haue done, so God hath rewarded me. so they brought him to Ierusalem, and there he died.
Alors Adoni-bézec dit: Soixante et dix Rois, dont les pouces des mains et des pieds avaient été coupés, ont recueilli [du pain] sous ma table; comme j'ai fait, Dieu m'a ainsi rendu; et ayant été amené à Jérusalem, il y mourut.
8 (Nowe the children of Iudah had fought against Ierusalem, and had taken it and smitten it with the edge of the sworde, and had set the citie on fire.)
Or les enfants de Juda avaient fait la guerre contre Jérusalem, et l'avaient prise, et ils avaient fait passer [ses habitants] au tranchant de l'épée, et mis la ville en feu.
9 Afterwarde also the children of Iudah went downe to fight against the Canaanites, that dwelt in the mountaine, and towarde the South, and in the lowe countrey.
Puis les enfants de Juda étaient descendus pour faire la guerre aux Cananéens, qui habitaient dans les montagnes, et au Midi, et dans la plaine.
10 And Iudah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron, which Hebron beforetime was called Kiriath-arba: and they slewe Sheshai, and Ahiman and Talmai.
Juda donc s'en était allé contre les Cananéens qui habitaient à Hébron; or le nom d'Hébron était auparavant Kirjath-Arbah; et il avait frappé Sesaï, Ahiman et Talmaï.
11 And from thence hee went to the inhabitantes of Debir, and the name of Debir in olde time was Kiriath-sepher.
Et de là il était allé contre les habitants de Débir, le nom de laquelle était auparavant Kirjath-sépher.
12 And Caleb saide, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, euen to him wil I giue Achsah my daughter to wife.
Et Caleb avait dit: Qui frappera Kirjath-sépher et la prendra, je lui donnerai ma fille Hacsa pour femme.
13 And Othniel the sonne of Kenaz Calebs yonger brother tooke it, to whome hee gaue Achsah his daughter to wife.
Et Hothniël, fils de Kénas, frère puîné de Caleb, la prit; et [Caleb] lui donna sa fille Hacsa pour femme.
14 And when shee came to him, shee mooued him to aske of her father a field, and shee lighted off her asse, and Caleb saide vnto her, What wilt thou?
Et il arriva que comme elle s'en allait, elle l'incita à demander à son père un champ; puis elle descendit impétueusement de dessus son âne; et Caleb lui dit: Qu'as-tu?
15 And shee answered him, Giue mee a blessing: for thou hast giuen me a South countrey, giue me also springs of water: and Caleb gaue her the springs aboue and the springs beneath.
Et elle lui répondit: Donne-moi un présent; puisque tu m'as donné une terre sèche, donne-moi aussi des sources d'eaux. Et Caleb lui donna les fontaines [du quartier] de dessus, et les fontaines [du quartier] de dessous.
16 And the childre of Keni Moses father in law went vp out of the citie of the palme trees with the children of Iudah, into the wildernesse of Iudah, that lieth in the South of Arad, and went and dwelt among the people.
Or les enfants du Kénien, beau-père de Moïse, étaient montés de la ville des palmes avec les enfants de Juda, au désert de Juda, qui est au Midi de Harad; parce qu'ils avaient marché et demeuré avec le peuple.
17 But Iudah went with Simeon his brother, and they slewe the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and vtterly destroied it, and called the name of the citie Hormah.
Puis Juda s'en alla avec Siméon son frère, et ils frappèrent les Cananéens qui habitaient à Tsephath, et la détruisirent à la façon de l'interdit, c'est pourquoi on appela la ville du nom de Horma.
18 Also Iudah tooke Azzah with the coasts thereof, and Askelon with the coasts thereof, and Ekron with the coastes thereof.
Juda prit aussi Gaza avec ses confins; Askelon avec ses confins; et Hékron avec ses confins.
19 And the Lord was with Iudah, and he possessed the mountaines: for he could not driue out the inhabitantes of the valleis, because they had charrets of yron.
Et l'Eternel fut avec Juda, et ils dépossédèrent [les habitants] de la montagne: mais ils ne dépossédèrent point les habitants de la vallée, parce qu'ils avaient des chariots de fer.
20 And they gaue Hebron vnto Caleb, as Moses had saide, and hee expelled thence the three sonnes of Anak.
Et on donna, selon que Moïse l'avait dit, Hébron à Caleb; qui en déposséda les trois fils de Hanak.
21 But the children of Beniamin did not cast out the Iebusites, that inhabited Ierusalem: therefore the Iebusites dwell with the children of Beniamin in Ierusalem vnto this day.
Quant aux enfants de Benjamin, ils ne dépossédèrent point le Jébusien qui habitait à Jérusalem; c'est pourquoi le Jébusien a habité avec les enfants de Benjamin à Jérusalem jusqu'à ce jour.
22 They also that were of the house of Ioseph, went vp to Beth-el, and the Lord was with them,
Ceux aussi de la maison de Joseph montèrent contre Bethel, et l'Eternel fut avec eux.
23 And the house of Ioseph caused to viewe Beth-el (and the name of the citie beforetime was Luz)
Et ceux de la maison de Joseph firent reconnaître Bethel, dont le nom était auparavant, Luz.
24 And the spies sawe a man come out of the citie, and they saide vnto him, Shewe vs, we praie thee, the way into the citie, and we will shewe thee mercie.
Et les espions virent un homme qui sortait de la ville, auquel ils dirent: Nous te prions de nous montrer un endroit par où l'on puisse entrer dans la ville, et nous te ferons grâce.
25 And when hee had shewed them the waie into the citie, they smote the citie with the edge of the sworde, but they let the man and all his housholde depart.
Il leur montra donc un endroit par où l'on pouvait entrer dans la ville, et ils la firent passer au tranchant de l'épée; mais ils laissèrent aller cet homme-là, et toute sa famille.
26 Then the man went into the lande of the Hittites, and built a citie, and called the name thereof Luz, which is the name thereof vnto this daie.
Puis cet homme s'en étant allé au pays des Héthiens, y bâtit une ville, et l'appela Luz, qui est son nom jusqu'à ce jour.
27 Neither did Manasseh destroie Bethshean with her townes, nor Taanach with her townes, nor the inhabitantes of Dor with her townes, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam with her townes, neither the inhabitants of Megiddo with her townes: but the Canaanites dwelled still in that lande.
Manassé aussi ne déposséda point [les habitants] de Beth-séan, ni des villes de son ressort, ni [les habitants] de Tahanac, ni des villes de son ressort; ni les habitants de Dor, ni des villes de son ressort; ni les habitants de Jibléham, ni des villes de son ressort, ni les habitants de Meguiddo, ni des villes de son ressort; et les Cananéens osèrent encore habiter en ce pays-là.
28 Neuerthelesse when Israel was strong, they put the Canaanites to tribute, and expelled them not wholly.
Il est vrai qu'il arriva que quand Israël fut devenu plus fort, il rendît les Cananéens tributaires; mais il ne les déposséda pas entièrement.
29 Likewise Ephraim expelled not the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer, but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
Ephraïm aussi ne déposséda point les Cananéens qui habitaient à Guézer; mais les Cananéens habitèrent avec lui à Guézer.
30 Neither did Zebulun expell the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries.
Zabulon ne déposséda point les habitants de Kitron, ni les habitants de Nahalol; mais les Cananéens habitèrent avec lui, et lui furent tributaires.
31 Neither did Asher cast out the inhabitants of Accho, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob,
Aser ne déposséda point les habitants de Hacco, ni les habitants de Sidon, ni d'Ahlab, ni d'Aczib, ni d'Helba, ni d'Aphik, ni de Rehob.
32 But the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites the inhabitantes of the lande: for they did not driue them out.
Mais ceux d'Aser habitèrent parmi les Cananéens habitants du pays; car ils ne les dépossédèrent point.
33 Neither did Naphtali driue out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but dwelt among the Canaanites the inhabitants of the lande: neuerthelesse the inhabitantes of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath became tributaries vnto them.
Nephthali ne déposséda point les habitants de Beth-sémes, ni les habitants de Beth-hanath, mais il habita parmi les Cananéens habitants du pays; et les habitants de Beth-sémes, et de Beth-hanath lui furent tributaires.
34 And the Amorites droue the children of Dan into the mountaine: so that they suffered them not to come downe to the valley.
Et les Amorrhéens tinrent les enfants de Dan fort resserrés dans la montagne, et ils ne souffraient point qu'ils descendissent dans la vallée.
35 And the Ammonites dwelt still in mount Heres in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, and when the hand of Iosephs familie preuailed, they became tributaries:
Et ces Amorrhéens-là osèrent encore habiter à Har-Hérés, à Ajalon, et à Sahalbim; mais la main de la maison de Joseph étant devenue plus forte, ils furent rendus tributaires.
36 And the coast of the Amorites was from Maaleh-akrabbim, euen from Selah and vpward.
Or la contrée des Amorrhéens [était] depuis la montée de Hakrabbim, depuis la roche, et au-dessus.
