Joshua 18
1 And the whole Congregation of the children of Israel, came together at Shiloh: for they set vp the Tabernacle of the Congregation there, after the land was subiect vnto them.
Daarna kwam het gehele israëlietische volk te Sjilo bijeen, waar het de openbaringstent plaatste. Ofschoon het land hun nu volkomen onderworpen was,
2 Nowe there remained among the children of Israel seuen tribes, to whom they had not deuided their inheritance.
waren er onder de Israëlieten nog zeven stammen, die hun erfdeel niet hadden verdeeld.
3 Therefore Ioshua said vnto the children of Israel, Howe long are ye so slacke to enter and possesse the land which the Lord God of your fathers hath giuen you?
Daarom sprak Josuë tot de Israëlieten: Hoelang zult ge nog te traag zijn, om het land binnen te trekken en in bezit te nemen, dat Jahweh, de God van uw vaderen, u heeft gegeven?
4 Giue from among you for euery tribe three men, that I may sende them, and that they may rise, and walke through the land, and distribute it according to their inheritance, and returne to me.
Wijst nu uit iedere stam drie mannen aan, die ik zal uitzenden. Ze zullen zich gereed maken, het land te doorkruisen, er een beschrijving van geven, zover dit voor hun erfdeel nodig is, en dan bij mij terugkomen.
5 And that they may deuide it vnto them into seuen parts, (Iudah shall abide in his coast at the South, and the house of Ioseph shall stand in their coastes at the North)
Ge moet het in zeven stukken verdelen; Juda zal zijn gebied in het zuiden, en het huis van Josef zijn gebied in het noorden behouden.
6 Ye shall describe the land therefore into seuen partes, and shall bring them hither to me, and I will cast lottes for you here before the Lord our God.
Stelt dus een beschrijving van het land in zeven delen op, en brengt die hier bij mij; dan zal ik hier voor het aanschijn van Jahweh, onzen God, het lot voor u werpen.
7 But the Leuites shall haue no part among you: for the Priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance: also Gad and Reuben and halfe the tribe of Manasseh haue receiued their inheritance beyond Iorden Eastward, which Moses the seruant of the Lord gaue them.
Want de Levieten hebben geen aandeel onder u, daar het priesterschap van Jahweh hun erfdeel is; en Gad en Ruben en de halve stam van Manasse hebben reeds hun erfdeel aan de oostzijde van de Jordaan, dat Moses, de dienaar van Jahweh, hun heeft gegeven.
8 Then the men arose, and went their way: and Ioshua charged them that went to describe the land, saying, Depart, and goe through the land, and describe it, and returne to me, that I may here cast lottes for you before the Lord in Shiloh.
De mannen maakten zich dan gereed en gingen op weg, terwijl Josuë hun bij hun vertrek opdroeg, een beschrijving van het land te maken. Hij zeide: Gaat en doorkruist het land, stelt er een beschrijving van op, en komt dan bij mij terug; dan zal ik hier te Sjilo voor het aanschijn van Jahweh het lot voor u werpen.
9 So the men departed, and passed through the lande, and described it by cities into seuen partes in a booke, and returned to Ioshua into the campe at Shiloh.
En de mannen gingen heen, trokken het land door, stelden er een beschrijving in zeven delen van op schrift, stad voor stad, en kwamen bij Josuë in het kamp te Sjilo terug.
10 Then Ioshua cast lottes for them in Shiloh before the Lord, and there Ioshua deuided the land vnto the children of Israel, according to their portions:
Toen wierp Josuë te Sjilo voor hen het lot voor het aanschijn van Jahweh, en verdeelde daar het land onder de groepen der Israëlieten.
11 And the lot of the tribe of the children of Beniamin came foorth according to their families, and the cost of their lot lay betweene the children of Iudah, and the children of Ioseph.
Het eerste lot viel voor de families van de stam der Benjamieten; het gebied, dat het lot hun toewees, lag tussen de zonen van Juda en Josef.
12 And their coast on the Northside was from Iorden, and the border went vp to the side of Iericho on the Northpart, and went vp through the mountaines Westward, and the endes thereof are in the wildernesse of Beth-auen:
Hun noordelijke grens begon bij de Jordaan, liep dan naar boven langs de noordzijde van de bergrug van Jericho, en verder westwaarts het gebergte op, om te eindigen bij de woestijn van Bet-Awen.
13 And this border goeth along from thence to Luz, euen to the Southside of Luz (the same is Beth-el) and this border descendeth to Atroth-addar, neere the mount, that lyeth on the Southside of Beth-horon the nether.
Vandaar ging de grens verder naar Loez, ten zuiden van de bergrug van Loez, of Betel; en dan omlaag tot Atrot-Addar op het gebergte, ten zuiden van Laag Bet-Choron.
14 So the border turneth, and compasseth the corner of the Sea Southward, from the mount that lyeth before Beth-horon Southward: and the endes thereof are at Kiriath-baal (which is Kiriath-iearim) a citie of the children of Iudah: this is the Westquarter.
Van het gebergte zuidelijk tegenover Bet Choron draaide ze met een bocht in zuidwestelijke richting, en eindigde bij Kirjàt-Báal of Kirjat-Jearim, een stad van de Judeërs. Dit was de westelijke punt.
15 And the Southquarter is from the ende of Kiriath-iearim, and this border goeth out Westward, and commeth to the fountaine of waters of Nephtoah.
Aan de zuidkant liep de grens van de uiterste punt van Kirját-Jearim in het westen tot bij de bron van de wateren van Neftóach;
16 And this border descendeth at the ende of the mountaine, that lyeth before the valley of Ben-hinnom, which is in the valley of the gyants Northward, and descendeth into the valley of Hinnom by the side of Iebusi Southwarde, and goeth downe to En-rogel,
ze daalde vervolgens tot de uitlopers van het gebergte, dat tegenover het Ben-Hinnomdal en noordelijk van de vallei der Refaieten ligt; dan ging ze verder omlaag naar het Hinnomdal, zuidelijk van de bergrug der Jeboesieten, en nog meer omlaag naar En-Rogel.
17 And compasseth from the North, and goeth foorth to En-shemesh, and stretcheth to Geliloth, which is toward the going vp vnto Adummim, and goeth downe to the stone of Bohan the sonne of Reuben.
Daarna boog ze om in noordelijke richting, kwam uit bij En-Sjémesj, vervolgens bij de steenhopen tegenover de bergpas van Adoemmim, en daalde tot de steen van Bóhan, den zoon van Ruben.
18 So it goeth along to the side ouer against the plaine Northward, and goeth downe into the plaine.
Verder liep ze ten noorden van de bergketen van Bet-Haäraba, dan omlaag de Araba in;
19 After, this border goeth along to the side of Beth-hoglah Northward: and the endes thereof, that is, of the border, reach to the point of the salt Sea Northward, and to the ende of Iorden Southward: this is the Southcoast.
vervolgens ten noorden van de bergrug van Bet-Chogla, om te eindigen bij de noordelijke baai van de Zoutzee, aan de zuidelijke monding van de Jordaan. Dit was de zuidelijke grens.
20 Also Iorden is the border of it on the Eastside: this is the inheritance of the children of Beniamin by the coastes thereof rounde about according to their families.
De Jordaan vormde de oostelijke grens. Dit was het erfdeel van de families der Benjamieten met zijn grenzen aan alle kanten.
21 Nowe the cities of the tribe of the children of Beniamin according to their families, are Iericho, and Beth-hoglah, and the valley of Keziz,
De steden van de families der Benjamieten waren: Jericho, Bet-Chogla, Émek-Kesis,
22 And Beth-arabah, and Zemaraim, and Beth-el,
Bet-Haäraba, Semaráim, Betel,
23 And Auim, and Parah, and Ophrah,
Awwim, Para, Ofra,
24 And Chephar, Ammonai, and Ophni, and Gaba: twelue cities with their villages.
Kefar-Haämmoni, Ofni en Géba; twaalf steden met haar dorpen.
25 Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,
Gibon, Rama, Beërot,
26 And Mizpeh, and Chephirah, and Mozah,
Mispe, Kefira, Mosa,
27 And Rekem, and Irpeel, and Taralah,
Rékem, Jirpeël, Tarala,
28 And Zela, Eleph, and Iebusi, (which is Ierusalem) Gibeath, and Kiriath: fourteene cities with their villages: this is the inheritance of the children of Beniamin according to their families.
Séla, Haélef, Jeboes of Jerusalem, Gibat en Kirjat-Jearim; veertien steden met haar dorpen. Dit was het erfdeel van de families der Benjamieten.
