John 1
1 In the beginning was that Word, and that Word was with God, and that Word was God.
Au commencement était la Parole; la Parole était avec Dieu, et la Parole était dieu.
2 This same was in the beginning with God.
Elle était au commencement avec Dieu.
3 All things were made by it, and without it was made nothing that was made.
Toutes choses ont été faites par elle, et rien de ce qui a été fait, n'a été fait sans elle.
4 In it was life, and that life was the light of men.
En elle était la vie, et cette vie était la lumière des hommes:
5 And that light shineth in the darkenesse, and the darkenesse comprehended it not.
la lumière brille dans les ténèbres, mais les ténèbres ne l'ont point reçue.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was Iohn.
Un homme parut; il était envoyé de Dieu, son nom était Jean.
7 This same came for a witnesse, to beare witnesse of that light, that all men through him might beleeue.
Il vint pour un témoignage, pour rendre témoignage à la Lumière, afin que tous crussent par lui:
8 He was not that light, but was sent to beare witnesse of that light.
il n'était pas la Lumière, mais il devait rendre témoignage à la Lumière.
9 This was that true light, which lighteth euery man that commeth into the world.
La véritable Lumière, qui éclaire tout homme, était entrée dans le monde;
10 He was in the world, and the worlde was made by him: and the worlde knewe him not.
elle était dans le monde, et le monde a été fait par elle, mais le monde ne l'a point connue.
11 He came vnto his owne, and his owne receiued him not.
Elle est venue chez les siens, et les siens ne l'ont point reçue;
12 But as many as receiued him, to them he gaue prerogatiue to be the sonnes of God, euen to them that beleeue in his Name.
mais à tous ceux qui l'ont reçue, à tous ceux qui croient en son nom, elle a donné la prérogative d'être enfants de Dieu:
13 Which are borne not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of ye wil of man, but of God.
enfants, qui ne sont pas nés du sang, ni de la volonté de la chair, ni de la volonté de l'homme, mais qui sont nés de Dieu.
14 And that Word was made flesh, and dwelt among vs, (and we sawe the glorie thereof, as the glorie of the onely begotten Sonne of the Father) full of grace and trueth.
Et la Parole a été faite chair; elle a habité au milieu de nous pleine de grâce et de vérité, et nous avons contemplé sa gloire, une gloire comme celle d'un fils unique envoyé par son père.
15 Iohn bare witnesse of him, and cryed, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that commeth after me, was before me: for he was better then I.
Jean lui rend témoignage, quand il dit à haute voix: «Voici celui dont je disais: Celui qui vient après moi. a pris le pas devant moi, parce qu'il est plus grand que moi.»
16 And of his fulnesse haue all we receiued, and grace for grace.
C'est de sa plénitude que nous avons tous reçu grâce sur grâce;
17 For the Lawe was giuen by Moses, but grace, and trueth came by Iesus Christ.
car la Loi a été donnée par Moïse; mais la Grâce et la Vérité sont venues par Jésus-Christ.
18 No man hath seene God at any time: that onely begotten Sonne, which is in the bosome of the Father, he hath declared him.
Personne n'a jamais vu Dieu; le Fils unique, qui est dans le sein du Père, est celui qui l'a révélé.
19 Then this is the record of Iohn, when the Iewes sent Priestes and Leuites from Hierusalem, to aske him, Who art thou?
Voici le témoignage que rendit Jean, lorsque les Juifs envoyèrent de Jérusalem des sacrificateurs et des lévites pour lui adresser cette question: «Qui es-tu?»
20 And he confessed and denied not, and said plainely, I am not that Christ.
Il le déclara, et ne le nia point; il déclara qu'il n'était pas le Messie.
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he said, I am not. Art thou that Prophet? And he answered, No.
— «Quoi donc! Es-tu Élie?» lui demandèrent-ils; et il dit: «Je ne le suis point.» - «Es-tu le Prophète?» et il répondit: «Non.»
22 Then said they vnto him, Who art thou, that we may giue an answere to them that sent vs? What sayest thou of thy selfe?
Ils lui dirent donc: «Qui es-tu? afin que nous rendions réponse à ceux qui nous ont envoyés. Que dis-tu que tu es?»
23 He said, I am the voyce of him that cryeth in the wildernesse, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the Prophet Esaias.
— «Moi, dit-il, je suis «une voix qui crie au désert: Redressez le chemin du Seigneur, » comme a dit le prophète Ésaïe.
24 Nowe they which were sent, were of the Pharises.
Ceux qu'on avait envoyés étaient des pharisiens.
25 And they asked him, and saide vnto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, neither Elias, nor that Prophet?
Ils insistèrent, et lui dirent: «Pourquoi donc baptises-tu, si tu n'es pas le Messie, ni même Elie ou le Prophète?»
26 Iohn answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there is one among you, whom ye knowe not.
Jean leur répondit: «Pour moi, je baptise d'eau, mais il y a au milieu de vous quelqu'un que vous ne connaissez pas:
27 He it is that commeth after me, which was before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthie to vnloose.
c'est celui qui vient après moi; je ne suis pas digne de délier la courroie de ses sandales.»
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Iordan, where Iohn did baptize.
Ces choses se passèrent à Béthanie, au delà du Jourdain, où Jean baptisait.
29 The next day Iohn, seeth Iesus comming vnto him, and saith, Beholde that Lambe of God, which taketh away the sinne of the world.
Le lendemain, Jean vit Jésus qui venait vers lui, et il dit: «Voici l'agneau de Dieu qui ôte le péché du monde.»
30 This is he of whom I saide, After me commeth a man, which was before me: for he was better then I.
C'est de lui que j'ai dit: Il vient après moi un homme qui a pris le pas devant moi, parce qu'il est plus grand que moi.
31 And I knewe him not: but because he should be declared to Israel, therefore am I come, baptizing with water.
Je ne le connaissais pas; mais je suis venu baptiser d'eau, afin qu'il fût manifesté à Israël»
32 So Iohn bare recorde, saying, I behelde that Spirit come downe from heauen, like a doue, and it abode vpon him,
et Jean avait rendu ce témoignage: «J'ai vu l'Esprit descendre du ciel comme une colombe, et demeurer sur lui.»
33 And I knewe him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, he saide vnto me, Vpon whom thou shalt see that Spirit come downe, and tary still on him, that is he which baptizeth with the holy Ghost.
Je ne le connaissais pas; mais celui-là même qui m'a envoyé baptiser d'eau m'a dit: «Celui sur qui tu verras l'Esprit descendre et demeurer, c'est lui qui baptise d'esprit saint.»
34 And I sawe, and bare record that this is that Sonne of God.
Je l'ai vu, et j'ai rendu témoignage que c'est lui qui est le Fils de Dieu.»
35 The next day, Iohn stoode againe, and two of his disciples.
Le lendemain, Jean se trouvait là de nouveau, avec deux de ses disciples;
36 And he behelde Iesus walking by, and said, Beholde that Lambe of God.
et, ayant considéré Jésus qui passait, il dit: «Voilà l'agneau de Dieu.»
37 And the two disciples heard him speake, and followed Iesus.
Ces deux disciples l'ayant entendu parler de la sorte, suivirent Jésus.
38 Then Iesus turned about, and saw them follow, and saide vnto them, What seeke ye? And they saide vnto him, Rabbi (which is to say by interpretation, Master) where dwellest thou?
Jésus s'étant retourné, et voyant qu'ils le suivaient, leur dit. «Que cherchez- vous?» Ils lui dirent: «Rabbi, »(ce qui signifie Maître) «où demeures-tu?»
39 He saide vnto them, Come, and see. They came and sawe where hee dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth houre.
— «Venez, leur dit-il, et vous verrez. Ils allèrent, et ils virent où il demeurait, et ils restèrent auprès de lui ce jour-là. C'était environ la dixième heure du jour.
40 Andrew, Simon Peters brother, was one of the two which had heard it of Iohn, and that followed him.
André, frère de Simon-Pierre, était l'un des deux disciples qui avaient entendu la parole de Jean, et qui avaient suivi Jésus.
41 The same founde his brother Simon first, and said vnto him, We haue founde that Messias, which is by interpretation, that Christ.
Il rencontra, le premier, son frère Simon, et il lui dit: «Nous avons trouvé le Messie» (ce qui signifie Christ);
42 And he brought him to Iesus. And Iesus behelde him, and saide, Thou art Simon the sonne of Iona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, a stone.
et il le mena vers Jésus. Celui-ci, l'ayant considéré, lui dit: «Tu es Simon, fils de Jona; on t'appellera Céphas» (ce qui signifie Pierre).
43 The day following, Iesus woulde goe into Galile, and founde Philip, and said vnto him, Followe me.
Le lendemain, Jésus résolut de partir pour la Galilée. Il rencontra Philippe, et lui dit: «Suis-moi.»
44 Nowe Philip was of Bethsaida, the citie of Andrew and Peter.
Philippe était de la ville de Bethsaïde, d'où étaient aussi André et Pierre.
45 Philippe founde Nathanael, and saide vnto him, Wee haue founde him of whom Moses did write in the Lawe, and the Prophetes, Iesus that sonne of Ioseph, that was of Nazareth.
Philippe rencontra Nathanaël, et lui dit: «Nous avons trouvé celui dont Moïse a parlé dans la Loi, et que les prophètes ont annoncé; c'est Jésus, fils de Joseph, de Nazareth.»
46 Then Nathanael sayde vnto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saide to him, Come, and see.
Nathanaël lui dit: «Peut-il sortir de Nazareth quelque chose de bon?» Philippe lui répondit: «Viens et vois.»
47 Iesus sawe Nathanael comming to him, and saide of him, Beholde in deede an Israelite, in whom is no guile.
Jésus voyant venir Nathanaël, dit en parlant de lui: «Voici un vrai Israélite, un homme sans détour.»
48 Nathanael sayde vnto him, Whence knewest thou mee? Iesus answered, and sayd vnto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast vnder the figge tree, I sawe thee.
— «D'où me connais-tu?» lui dit Nathanaël. Jésus lui répondit: «Avant que Philippe t'appelât, je t'ai vu sous le figuier.»
49 Nathanael answered, and saide vnto him, Rabbi, thou art that Sonne of God: thou art that King of Israel.
— «Maître, lui repartit Nathanaël, tu es le Fils de Dieu, tu es le roi d'Israël.»
50 Iesus answered, and sayde vnto him, Because I sayde vnto thee, I sawe thee vnder the figtree, beleeuest thou? thou shalt see greater things then these.
Jésus répondit et lui dit: «Parce que je t'ai dit que je t'ai vu sous le figuier, tu crois! Tu verras de plus grandes choses que celles-là.»
51 And he saide vnto him, Verely, verely I say vnto you, hereafter shall yee see heauen open, and the Angels of God ascending, and descending vpon that Sonne of man.
Et il ajouta: «En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous verrez désormais le ciel ouvert, et les anges de Dieu monter et descendre sur le Fils de l'homme.
