Joel 2

1 Blowe the trumpet in Zion, and shoute in mine holy mountaine: let all the inhabitants of the lande tremble: for the day of the Lord is come: for it is at hand.

Sonnez de la trompette en Sion! Faites-la retentir sur ma montagne sainte! Que tous les habitants du pays tremblent! Car le jour de l’Éternel vient, car il est proche,

2 A day of darkenesse, and of blacknesse, a day of cloudes, and obscuritie, as the morning spred vpon the mountaines, so is there a great people, and a mighty: there was none like it from the beginning, neither shalbe any more after it, vnto the yeeres of many generations.

Jour de ténèbres et d’obscurité, Jour de nuées et de brouillards, Il vient comme l’aurore se répand sur les montagnes. Voici un peuple nombreux et puissant, Tel qu’il n’y en a jamais eu, Et qu’il n’y en aura jamais dans la suite des âges.

3 A fire deuoureth before him, and behinde him a flame burneth vp: the land is as the garden of Eden before him, and behinde him a desolate wildernesse, so that nothing shall escape him.

Devant lui est un feu dévorant, Et derrière lui une flamme brûlante; Le pays était auparavant comme un jardin d’Éden, Et depuis, c’est un désert affreux: Rien ne lui échappe.

4 The beholding of him is like the sight of horses, and like the horsemen, so shall they runne.

A les voir, on dirait des chevaux, Et ils courent comme des cavaliers.

5 Like the noyse of charrets in the toppes of the mountaines shall they leape, like the noyse of a flame of fire that deuoureth the stubble, and as a mightie people prepared to the battel.

A les entendre, on dirait un bruit de chars Sur le sommet des montagnes où ils bondissent, On dirait un pétillement de la flamme du feu, Quand elle consume le chaume. C’est comme une armée puissante Qui se prépare au combat.

6 Before his face shall the people tremble: all faces shall gather blackenesse.

Devant eux les peuples tremblent, Tous les visages pâlissent.

7 They shall runne like strong men, and goe vp to the wall like men of warre, and euery man shall goe forward in his wayes, and they shall not stay in their paths.

Ils s’élancent comme des guerriers, Ils escaladent les murs comme des gens de guerre; Chacun va son chemin, Sans s’écarter de sa route.

8 Neither shall one thrust another, but euery one shall walke in his path: and when they fall vpon the sword, they shall not be wounded.

Ils ne se pressent point les uns les autres, Chacun garde son rang; Ils se précipitent au travers des traits Sans arrêter leur marche.

9 They shall runne to and from in the citie: they shall runne vpon the wall: they shall clime vp vpon the houses, and enter in at ye windowes like ye thiefe.

Ils se répandent dans la ville, Courent sur les murailles, Montent sur les maisons, Entrent par les fenêtres comme un voleur.

10 The earth shall tremble before him, ye heauens shall shake, the sunne and the moone shalbe darke, and the starres shall withdraw their shining,

Devant eux la terre tremble, Les cieux sont ébranlés, Le soleil et la lune s’obscurcissent, Et les étoiles retirent leur éclat.

11 And the Lord shall vtter his voyce before his hoste: for his hoste is very great: for he is strog that doeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible, and who can abide it?

L’Éternel fait entendre sa voix devant son armée; Car son camp est immense, Et l’exécuteur de sa parole est puissant; Car le jour de l’Éternel est grand, il est terrible: Qui pourra le soutenir?

12 Therefore also now the Lord sayth, Turne you vnto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning,

Maintenant encore, dit l’Éternel, Revenez à moi de tout votre cœur, Avec des jeûnes, avec des pleurs et des lamentations!

13 And rent your heart, and not your clothes: and turne vnto the Lord your God, for he is gratious, and mercifull, slowe to anger, and of great kindnes, and repenteth him of the euill.

Déchirez vos cœurs et non vos vêtements, Et revenez à l’Éternel, votre Dieu; Car il est compatissant et miséricordieux, Lent à la colère et riche en bonté, Et il se repent des maux qu’il envoie.

14 Who knoweth, is he wil returne and repent and leaue a blessing behinde him, euen a meate offring, and a drinke offring vnto ye Lord your God?

Qui sait s’il ne reviendra pas et ne se repentira pas, Et s’il ne laissera pas après lui la bénédiction, Des offrandes et des libations pour l’Éternel, votre Dieu?

15 Blowe the trumpet in Zion, sanctifie a fast, call a solemne assembly.

Sonnez de la trompette en Sion! Publiez un jeûne, une convocation solennelle!

16 Gather the people: sanctifie the congregation, gather the elders: assemble the children, and those that sucke the breastes: let the bridegrome go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her bride chamber.

Assemblez le peuple, formez une sainte réunion! Assemblez les vieillards, Assemblez les enfants, Même les nourrissons à la mamelle! Que l’époux sorte de sa demeure, Et l’épouse de sa chambre!

17 Let the Priestes, the ministers of the Lord weepe betweene the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and giue not thine heritage into reproche that the heathen should rule ouer them. Wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?

Qu’entre le portique et l’autel Pleurent les sacrificateurs, Serviteurs de l’Éternel, Et qu’ils disent: Éternel, épargne ton peuple! Ne livre pas ton héritage à l’opprobre, Aux railleries des nations! Pourquoi dirait-on parmi les peuples: Où est leur Dieu?

18 Then will the Lord be ielous ouer his land, and spare his people.

L’Éternel est ému de jalousie pour son pays, Et il épargne son peuple.

19 Yea, the Lord wil answere and say vnto his people, Beholde, I will send you corne, and wine, and oyle, and you shalbe satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproche among the heathen,

L’Éternel répond, il dit à son peuple: Voici, je vous enverrai du blé, Du moût et de l’huile, Et vous en serez rassasiés; Et je ne vous livrerai plus à l’opprobre parmi les nations.

20 But I will remooue farre off from you the Northren armie, and I will driue him into a land, barren and desolate with his face toward the East sea, and his end to the vtmost sea, and his stinke shall come vp, and his corruption shall ascend, because he hath exalted himselfe to do this.

J’éloignerai de vous l’ennemi du nord, Je le chasserai vers une terre aride et déserte, Son avant-garde dans la mer orientale, Son arrière-garde dans la mer occidentale; Et son infection se répandra, Sa puanteur s’élèvera dans les airs, Parce qu’il a fait de grandes choses.

21 Feare not, O land, but be glad, and reioyce: for the Lord wil do great things.

Terre, ne crains pas, Sois dans l’allégresse et réjouis-toi, Car l’Éternel fait de grandes choses!

22 Be not afrayde, ye beastes of the fielde: for the pastures of the wildernesse are greene: for the tree beareth her fruite: the figge tree and the vine do giue their force.

Bêtes des champs, ne craignez pas, Car les plaines du désert reverdiront, Car les arbres porteront leurs fruits, Le figuier et la vigne donneront leurs richesses.

23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and reioyce in the Lord your God: for he hath giuen you the rayne of righteousnes, he wil cause to come downe for you the rayne, euen the first raine, and the latter raine in the first moneth.

Et vous, enfants de Sion, soyez dans l’allégresse et réjouissez-vous En l’Éternel, votre Dieu, Car il vous donnera la pluie en son temps, Il vous enverra la pluie de la première et de l’arrière-saison, Comme autrefois.

24 And the barnes shalbe full of wheate, and the presses shall abound with wine and oyle.

Les aires se rempliront de blé, Et les cuves regorgeront de moût et d’huile.

25 And I will render you the yeeres that the grashopper hath eaten, the canker worme and the caterpiller and the palmer worme, my great hoste which I sent among you.

Je vous remplacerai les années Qu’ont dévorées la sauterelle, Le jélek, le hasil et le gazam, Ma grande armée que j’avais envoyée contre vous.

26 So you shall eate and be satisfied and praise the Name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt marueilously with you: and my people shall neuer be ashamed.

Vous mangerez et vous vous rassasierez, Et vous célébrerez le nom de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, Qui aura fait pour vous des prodiges; Et mon peuple ne sera plus jamais dans la confusion.

27 Ye shall also know, that I am in the middes of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God and none other, and my people shall neuer be ashamed.

Et vous saurez que je suis au milieu d’Israël, Que je suis l’Éternel, votre Dieu, et qu’il n’y en a point d’autre, Et mon peuple ne sera plus jamais dans la confusion.

28 And afterward will I powre out my Spirit vpon all flesh: and your sonnes and your daughters shall prophecie: your olde men shall dreame dreames, and your yong men shall see visions,

Après cela, je répandrai mon esprit sur toute chair; Vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront, Vos vieillards auront des songes, Et vos jeunes gens des visions.

29 And also vpon the seruants, and vpon the maydes in those dayes wil I powre my Spirit.

Même sur les serviteurs et sur les servantes, Dans ces jours-là, je répandrai mon esprit.

30 And I will shewe wonders in the heauens and in the earth: blood and fire, and pillars of smoke.

Je ferai paraître des prodiges dans les cieux et sur la terre, Du sang, du feu, et des colonnes de fumée;

31 The sunne shalbe turned into darkenesse, and the moone into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.

Le soleil se changera en ténèbres, Et la lune en sang, Avant l’arrivée du jour de l’Éternel, De ce jour grand et terrible.

32 But whosoeuer shall call on the Name of the Lord, shalbe saued: for in mount Zion, and in Ierusale shalbe deliuerance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant, whom the Lord shall call.

Alors quiconque invoquera le nom de l’Éternel sera sauvé; Le salut sera sur la montagne de Sion et à Jérusalem, Comme a dit l’Éternel, Et parmi les réchappés que l’Éternel appellera.
