Jeremiah 49
1 Unto the children of Ammon thus saith the Lord, Hath Israel no sonnes? or hath he none heire? Why then hath their king possessed God? and his people dwelt in his cities?
Aux fils d’Ammon, voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Est-ce qu’Israël n’a point d’enfants? ou n’a-t-il point d’héritiers? Pourquoi donc Melchom s’est-il emparé de Gad comme de son héritage, et son peuple a-t-il établi son habitation dans ses villes?
2 Therefore beholde the dayes come, sayeth the Lord, that I will cause a noyse of warre to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites, and it shall be a desolate heape, and her daughters shall be burnt with fire: then shall Israel possesse those that possessed him, sayeth the Lord.
C’est pourquoi, voilà que des jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, et je ferai entendre sur Rabbath des fils d’Ammon le frémissement d’un combat; et elle sera réduite par sa destruction en un monceau de pierres; et ses filles seront consumées par le feu. Israël possédera ceux qui le possédaient, dit le Seigneur
3 Howle, O Heshbon, for Ai is wasted: crie ye daughters of Rabbah: girde you with sackecloth: mourne and runne to and from by the hedges: for their King shall goe into captiuitie; and his Priestes, and his princes likewise.
Hurle, Hésébon, parce que Haï a été ravagée; criez, filles de Rabbath; ceignez-vous de cilices; pleurez, et allez autour des haies, parce que Melchom sera emmené en exil, et ses prêtres et ses princes en même temps.
4 Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleis? thy valley floweth away, O rebellious daughter: she trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come vnto me?
Pourquoi te glorifies-tu dans tes vallées? ta vallée s’est écoulée; fille délicate, qui te confiais en tes trésors, et disais: Qui viendra vers moi?
5 Beholde, I will bring a feare vpon thee, sayth the Lord God of hostes, of all those that be about thee, and ye shalbe scattered euery man right foorth, and none shall gather him that fleeth.
Voilà que j’amènerai sur toi la terreur, dit le Seigneur, Dieu des armées, la terreur de tous ceux qui t’environnent; vous serez dispersés les uns après les autres hors de votre présence, et il n’y aura personne qui rassemblera les fuyards.
6 And afterward I will bring againe the captiuitie of the children of Ammon.
Et après cela, je ferai revenir les captifs des fils d’Ammon, dit le Seigneur.
7 To Edom thus sayeth the Lord of hostes: Is wisdome no more in Teman? is counsel perished from their children? is their wisdome vanished?
À l’Idumée. Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées: Est-ce qu’il n’y a plus de sagesse dans Théman? Le conseil les a abandonnés, leur sagesse est devenue inutile.
8 Flee, ye inhabitants of Dedan (they are turned backe, and haue consulted to dwell) for I haue brought the destruction of Esau vpon him, and the time of his visitation.
Fuyez, et tournez le dos, descendez dans le gouffre, habitants de Dédan, parce que j’ai amené la ruine sur Esaü, le temps de sa visite.
9 If the grape gatherers come to thee, would they not leaue some grapes? if theeues come by night, they will destroy till they haue ynough.
Si des vendangeurs étaient venus sur toi, ils t’auraient laissé une grappe; si des voleurs pendant la nuit, ils auraient emporté seulement ce qui leur aurait suffi.
10 For I haue discouered Esau: I haue vncouered his secrets, and he shall not be able to hide himselfe: his seede is wasted, and his brethren and his neighbours, and there shall be none to say,
Mais moi, j’ai découvert Esaü, j’ai révélé ce qu’il tenait caché, et il ne pourra plus être secret; sa race a été désolée, ainsi que ses frères et ses voisins; et il ne sera plus.
11 Leaue thy fathers children, and I will preserue them aliue, and let thy widowes trust in me.
Laisse tes pupilles; mais je les ferai vivre; et tes veuves en moi espéreront.
12 For thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, they whose iudgement was not to drinke of the cuppe, haue assuredly drunken, and art thou he that shall escape free? thou shalt not goe free, but thou shalt surely drinke of it.
Car voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Voilà que ceux qui n’avaient pas été jugés comme devant boire le calice, le buvant, le boiront; et toi, tu seras laissé comme innocent? Tu ne seras pas regardé comme innocent; mais buvant tu boiras.
13 For I haue sworne by my selfe, sayeth the Lord, that Bozrah shall be waste, and for a reproche, and a desolation, and a curse, and all the cities thereof shall be perpetuall desolations.
Parce que j’ai juré par moi-même, dit le Seigneur, que Bosra deviendra une solitude, et un opprobre, et un désert, et une malédiction; et toutes ses cités deviendront des solitudes éternelles.
14 I haue heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassadour is sent vnto the heathen, saying, Gather you together, and come against her, and rise vp to the battell.
J’ai entendu une nouvelle venant du Seigneur, et un messager a été envoyé vers les nations: Rassemblez-vous et venez contre elle; et levons-nous pour le combat.
15 For loe, I will make thee but small among the heathen, and despised among men.
Car voilà que je t’ai rendu petit parmi les nations, méprisable entre les hommes.
16 Thy feare, and ye pride of thine heart hath deceiued thee, thou that dwellest in the cleftes of the rocke, and keepest the height of ye hil: though thou shouldest make thy nest as hie as the eagle, I wil bring thee downe from thece, sayth the Lord.
Ton arrogance t’a trompé, ainsi que l’orgueil de ton cœur; toi qui habites dans des cavernes de pierres et qui t’efforces d’occuper le haut d’une colline; quand tu aurais élevé ton nid comme l’aigle, je t’arracherais de là, dit le Seigneur.
17 Also Edom shall be desolate: euery one that goeth by it, shall be astonished, and shall hisse at all the plagues thereof,
Et l’Idumée sera déserte; car quiconque passera au milieu d’elle sera frappée de stupeur et sifflera sur ses plaies.
18 As in the ouerthrowe of Sodom, and of Gomorah, and the places thereof neere about, saieth the Lord: no man shall dwell there, neither shall the sonnes of men remaine in it.
Comme Sodome a été renversée, ainsi que Gomorrhe et ses voisines, dit le Seigneur; un homme n’y habitera pas, et le fils d’un homme n’y séjournera pas.
19 Beholde, hee shall come vp like a lyon from the swelling of Iorden vnto the strong dwelling place: for I will make Israel to rest, euen I will make him to haste away from her, and who is a chosen man that I may appoynt against her? for who is like mee? and who will appoint me the time? and who is the shepheard that will stande before me?
Voilà que, comme un lion, il montera de l’orgueil du Jourdain vers une beauté puissante; parce que soudain je le ferai courir vers elle; et quel est l’élu que je préposerai sur elle? Car qui est semblable à moi? qui tiendra contre moi? et quel est le pasteur qui résistera à mon visage?
20 Therefore heare the counsell of the Lord that hee hath deuised against Edom, and his purpose that hee hath conceiued against the inhabitants of Teman: surely the least of the flocke shall drawe them out: surely he shall make their habitations desolate with them.
Écoutez à cause de cela le dessein que le Seigneur a formé contre Edom, et les pensées qu’il a méditées contre les habitants de Théman; il a dit: Je jure, si les petits du troupeau ne les chassent pas, et s’ils ne détruisent pas avec eux leur habitation.
21 The earth is mooued at the noyse of their fall: the crie of their voice is heard in the red Sea.
À la voix de leur ruine la terre a été agitée; la clameur de leur voix sur la mer Rouge a été entendue.
22 Behold, he shall come vp, and flie as the Egle, and spreade his wings ouer Bozrah, and at that day shall the heart of the strong men of Edome be as the heart of a woman in trauaile.
Et comme l’aigle il remontera et il s’envolera; et il étendra ses ailes sur Bosra; et le cœur des forts de l’Idumée sera en ce jour-là comme le cœur d’une femme en travail.
23 Vnto Damascus he sayeth, Hamath is confounded and Arpad, for they haue heard euill tidings, and they are faint hearted as one on the fearefull sea that can not rest.
À Damas. Emath a été couvert de confusion, ainsi que Arphad, parce qu’elles ont entendu une nouvelle très mauvaise; elles ont été troublées comme sur la mer; par inquiétude elle n’a pu trouver de repos.
24 Damascus is discouraged, and turneth her selfe to flight and feare hath seased her: anguish and sorowes haue taken her as a woman in trauaile.
Damas a perdu courage, elle a été mise en fuite; la frayeur s’est emparée d’elle; l’angoisse et les douleurs l’ont saisie comme une femme en travail.
25 How is the glorious citie not reserued, the citie of my ioy?
Comment ont-ils abandonné la cité renommée, la ville de l’allégresse?
26 Therefore her yong men shall fall in her streetes, and all her men of warre shall be cut off in that day, sayeth the Lord of hostes.
Pour cela ses jeunes hommes tomberont sur ses places, et tous les hommes de guerre se tairont en ce jour-là, dit le Seigneur des armées.
27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, which shall cosume the palaces of Benhadad.
Et j’allumerai un feu sur le mur de Damas, et il dévorera les remparts de Bénadad.
28 Vnto Kedar, and to the kingdomes of Hazor, which Nebuchad-nezzar, king of Babel shall smite, thus sayeth the Lord, Arise, and goe vp vnto Kedar, and destroy the men of the East.
À Cédar, et aux royaumes d’Asor, qu’a détruits Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone. Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Levez-vous, et montez vers Cédar, et ravagez les fils de l’Orient.
29 Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: yea, they shall take to themselues their curtaines and all their vessels, and their camels, and they shall crie vnto them, Feare is on euery side.
Ils prendront leurs tabernacles et leurs troupeaux; ils prendront pour eux leurs pavillons, et leurs vases, et leurs chameaux, et ils appelleront sur eux la frayeur de toutes parts.
30 Flee, get you farre off (they haue consulted to dwell) O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith the Lord: for Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel hath taken counsell against you, and hath deuised a purpose against you.
Fuyez, allez précipitamment, tenez-vous dans des antres, vous qui habitez Asor, dit le Seigneur; car Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, a formé un dessein contre vous, et il a médité contre vous des pensées.
31 Arise, and get you vp vnto the welthy nation that dwelleth without care, saith the Lord, which haue neither gates nor barres, but dwel alone.
Levez-vous tous ensemble, et montez vers une nation tranquille, et qui habite en assurance, dit le Seigneur: ils n’ont pas de portes, ni de verrous: ils habitent seuls.
32 And their camels shall be a bootie, and the multitude of their cattel a spoile, and I will scatter them into all windes, and to the vtmost corners, and I will bring their destruction from al the sides thereof, sayeth the Lord.
Et leurs chameaux seront au pillage; et la multitude de leurs troupeaux en proie; je les disperserai a tout vent, eux dont la chevelure est coupée; et de tous leurs confins j’amènerai la mort sur eux, dit le Seigneur.
33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, and desolation for euer: there shall no man dwell there, nor the sonnes of men remaine in it.
Et Asor deviendra la demeure des dragons et un désert jusqu’à jamais; un homme n’y habitera pas, et le fils d’un homme n’y séjournera pas.
34 The woordes of the Lord that came to Ieremiah the Prophet, concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reigne of Zedekiah King of Iudah, saying,
Parole du Seigneur qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, contre Elam au commencement du règne de Sédécias, roi de Juda, disant:
35 Thus sayeth the Lord of hostes, Beholde, I will breake the bowe of Elam, euen the chiefe of their strength.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées: Voilà que moi je briserai l’arc d’Elam et toute leur force.
36 And vpon Elam I will bring the foure windes from the foure quarters of heauen, and will scatter them towardes all these windes, and there shall bee no nation, whither the fugitiues of Elam shall not come.
Et j’amènerai sur Elam quatre vents, des quatre plages du ciel; je les disperserai vers tous ces vents, et il n’y aura pas de nation à laquelle ne parviennent les fugitifs d’Elam.
37 For I will cause Elam to be afraied before their enemies, and before them that seeke their liues, and will bring vpon them a plague, euen the indignation of my wrath, saieth the Lord, and I wil sende the sworde after them till I haue consumed them.
Je ferai trembler Elam devant ses ennemis et en la présence de ceux qui cherchent leur âme; et j’amènerai sur eux un malheur, la colère de ma fureur, dit le Seigneur, et j’enverrai après eux le glaive, jusqu’à ce que je les aie consumés.
38 And I wil set my throne in Elam, and I wil destroy both the King and the princes from thence, saith the Lord:
Et je poserai mon trône dans Elam, j’en exterminerai les rois et les princes, dit le Seigneur.
39 but in the latter daies I wil bring againe the captiuitie of Elam, sayeth the Lord.
Et dans les derniers jours, je ferai revenir les captifs d’Elam, dit le Seigneur.
