Jeremiah 40
1 The worde which came to Ieremiah from the Lord after that Nebuzar-adan the chiefe stewarde had let him goe from Ramath, when hee had taken him being bound in chaines among all that were caried away captiue of Ierusalem and Iudah, which were caried away captiue vnto Babel.
Ο λόγος ο γενόμενος προς Ιερεμίαν παρά Κυρίου, αφού Νεβουζαραδάν ο αρχισωματοφύλαξ εξαπέστειλεν αυτόν από Ραμά, ότε είχε λάβει αυτόν δεδεμένον με χειρόδεσμα μεταξύ πάντων των μετοικισθέντων από Ιερουσαλήμ και Ιούδα, οίτινες εφέροντο αιχμάλωτοι εις την Βαβυλώνα.
2 And the chiefe stewarde tooke Ieremiah, and said vnto him, The Lord thy God hath pronounced this plague vpon this place.
Και επίασεν ο αρχισωματοφύλαξ τον Ιερεμίαν και είπε προς αυτόν, Κύριος ο Θεός σου ελάλησε τα κακά ταύτα επί τον τόπον τούτον.
3 Nowe the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye haue sinned against the Lord, and haue not obeyed his voyce, therefore this thing is come vpon you.
Και επέφερεν αυτά ο Κύριος και έκαμε καθώς είπεν· επειδή ημαρτήσατε εις τον Κύριον και δεν υπηκούσατε εις την φωνήν αυτού, διά τούτο έγεινεν εις εσάς το πράγμα τούτο.
4 And nowe beholde, I loose thee this day from the chaines which were on thine handes, if it please thee to come with me into Babel, come, and I will looke well vnto thee: but if it please thee not to come with mee into Babel, tarie still: beholde, all the lande is before thee: whither it seemeth good, and conuenient for thee to goe, thither goe.
Και τώρα ιδού, σε έλυσα σήμερον εκ των χειροδέσμων των επί των χειρών σου· εάν φαίνηται εις σε καλόν να έλθης μετ' εμού εις την Βαβυλώνα, ελθέ, και εγώ θέλω σε περιποιηθή· αλλ' εάν φαίνηται εις σε κακόν να έλθης μετ' εμού εις την Βαβυλώνα, μείνον· ιδού, πας ο τόπος είναι έμπροσθέν σου· όπου σοι φαίνεται καλόν και αρεστόν να υπάγης, εκεί ύπαγε.
5 For yet he was not returned: therefore he said, Returne to Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan, whom the King of Babel hath made gouernour ouer all the cities of Iudah, and dwell with him among the people, or goe wheresoeuer it pleaseth thee to goe. So the chiefe stewarde gaue him vitailes and a rewarde, and let him goe.
Και επειδή δεν εστρέφετο, Επίστρεψον λοιπόν, είπε, προς τον Γεδαλίαν, υιόν του Αχικάμ υιού του Σαφάν, τον οποίον ο βασιλεύς της Βαβυλώνος κατέστησεν επί τας πόλεις του Ιούδα, και κατοίκησον μετ' αυτού μεταξύ του λαού· ή ύπαγε όπου σοι φαίνεται αρεστόν να υπάγης. Και έδωκεν εις αυτόν ο αρχισωματοφύλαξ ζωοτροφίας και δώρα και εξαπέστειλεν αυτόν.
6 Then went Ieremiah vnto Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwelt there with him among the people that were left in the lande.
Και υπήγεν ο Ιερεμίας προς Γεδαλίαν τον υιόν του Αχικάμ εις Μισπά και κατώκησε μετ' αυτού μεταξύ του λαού του εναπολειφθέντος εν τη γη.
7 Nowe when all the captaines of the hoste, which were in the fieldes, euen they and their men heard, that the King of Babel had made Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam gouernour in the land, and that he had committed vnto him, men, and women, and children, and of the poore of the lande, that were not caried away captiue to Babel,
Ακούσαντες δε πάντες οι αρχηγοί των στρατευμάτων των εν τω αγρώ, αυτοί και οι άνδρες αυτών, ότι ο βασιλεύς της Βαβυλώνος κατέστησε Γεδαλίαν τον υιόν του Αχικάμ επί την γην και έτι ενεπιστεύθη εις αυτόν άνδρας και γυναίκας και παιδία και εκ των πτωχών της γης, εκ των μη μετοικισθέντων εις την Βαβυλώνα,
8 Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, euen Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and Iohanan, and Ionathan the sonnes of Kareah, and Seraiah the sonne of Tanehumeth, and the sonnes of Ephai, the Netophathite, and Iezaniah the sonne of Maachathi, they and their men.
ήλθον προς τον Γεδαλίαν εις Μισπά και Ισμαήλ ο υιός του Νεθανίου και Ιωανάν και Ιωνάθαν οι υιοί του Καρηά και Σεραΐας ο υιός του Τανουμέθ και οι υιοί του Ιωφή του Νετωφαθίτου και Ιεζανίας υιός Μααχαθίτου τινός, αυτοί και οι άνδρες αυτών.
9 And Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam, the sonne of Shaphan sware vnto them, and to their men, saying, Feare not to serue the Caldeans: dwell in the lande, and serue the King of Babel, and it shall be well with you.
Και ώμοσε προς αυτούς Γεδαλίας ο υιός του Αχικάμ υιού του Σαφάν και προς τους άνδρας αυτών, λέγων, Μη φοβείσθε να ήσθε δούλοι των Χαλδαίων· κατοικήσατε εν τη γη και δουλεύετε εις τον βασιλέα της Βαβυλώνος και θέλει είσθαι καλόν εις εσάς.
10 As for me, Beholde, I will dwell at Mizpah to serue the Caldeans, which will come vnto vs: but you, gather you wine, and sommer fruites, and oyle, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities, that ye haue taken.
Εγώ δε, ιδού, θέλω κατοικήσει εν Μισπά, διά να παρίσταμαι ενώπιον των Χαλδαίων, οίτινες θέλουσιν ελθεί προς ημάς· και σεις συνάξατε οίνον και οπωρικά και έλαιον και βάλετε αυτά εις τα αγγείά σας και κατοικήσατε εν ταις πόλεσιν υμών, τας οποίας κρατείτε.
11 Likewise when all the Iewes that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the King of Babel had left a remnant of Iudah, and that he had set ouer them Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam the sonne of Shaphan,
Παρομοίως πάντες οι Ιουδαίοι οι εν Μωάβ και οι μεταξύ των υιών Αμμών και οι εν Εδώμ και οι εν πάσι τοις τόποις, ότε ήκουσαν ότι ο βασιλεύς της Βαβυλώνος αφήκεν υπόλοιπον εις τον Ιούδαν και ότι κατέστησεν επ' αυτούς Γεδαλίαν τον υιόν του Αχικάμ υιού του Σαφάν,
12 Euen all the Iewes returned out of all places where they were driuen, and came to the land of Iudah to Gedaliah vnto Mizpah, and gathered wine and sommer fruites, very much.
τότε επέστρεψαν πάντες οι Ιουδαίοι εκ πάντων των τόπων όπου ήσαν διεσπαρμένοι και ήλθον εις την γην του Ιούδα, προς τον Γεδαλίαν εις Μισπά, και εσύναξαν οίνον και οπωρικά πολλά σφόδρα.
13 Moreouer Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, and all the captaines of the hoste, that were in the fieldes, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,
Ο δε Ιωανάν ο υιός του Καρηά και πάντες οι αρχηγοί των στρατευμάτων των εν τω αγρώ ήλθον προς τον Γεδαλίαν εις Μισπά,
14 And said vnto him, Knowest thou not that Baalis the King of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam beleeued them not.
και είπον προς αυτόν, Εξεύρεις τωόντι ότι ο Βααλείς ο βασιλεύς των υιών Αμμών απέστειλε τον Ισμαήλ τον υιόν του Νεθανίου διά να σε φονεύση; Αλλ' ο Γεδαλίας ο υιός του Αχικάμ δεν επίστευσεν εις αυτούς.
15 Then Iohanan the sonne of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me goe, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the sonne of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it. Wherefore should he kill thee, that all the Iewes, which are gathered vnto thee, shoulde be scattered, and the remnant in Iudah perish?
Τότε Ιωανάν ο υιός του Καρηά ελάλησε κρυφίως προς τον Γεδαλίαν εν Μισπά, λέγων, Ας υπάγω τώρα και ας πατάξω τον Ισμαήλ τον υιόν του Νεθανίου και ουδείς θέλει μάθει αυτό· διά τι να σε φονεύση και ούτω πάντες οι Ιουδαίοι, οι συνηγμένοι περί σε, να διασκορπισθώσι και το υπόλοιπον του Ιούδα να απολεσθή;
16 But Gedaliah the sonne of Ahikam said vnto Iohanan the sonne of Kareah, Thou shalt not doe this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.
Αλλ' ο Γεδαλίας ο υιός του Αχικάμ είπε προς Ιωανάν τον υιόν του Καρηά, Μη κάμης το πράγμα τούτο, διότι ψευδή λέγεις περί του Ισμαήλ.
