Jeremiah 36
1 And in the fourth yeere of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah King of Iudah, came this word vnto Ieremiah from the Lord, saying,
Or il arriva, en la quatrième année de Jéhojakim fils de Josias Roi de Juda, que cette parole fut [adressée] par l'Eternel à Jérémie, en disant:
2 Take thee a roule or booke, and write therein all the wordes that I haue spoken to thee against Israel, and against Iudah, and against all the nations, from the day that I spake vnto thee, euen from the dayes of Iosiah vnto this day.
Prends-toi un rouleau de livre, et y écris toutes les paroles que je t'ai dites contre Israël, et contre Juda, et contre toutes les nations, depuis le jour que je t'ai parlé, [c'est-à-dire], depuis les jours de Josias, jusqu’à aujourd'hui.
3 It may bee that the House of Iudah will heare of all the euill, which I determined to doe vnto them that they may returne euery man from his euil way, that I may forgiue their iniquitie and their sinnes.
Peut-être que la maison de Juda fera attention à tout le mal que je pense de leur faire, afin que chacun se détourne de sa mauvaise voie, et que je leur pardonne leur iniquité, et leur péché.
4 Then Ieremiah called Baruch the sonne of Neriah, and Baruch wrote at the mouth of Ieremiah all the wordes of the Lord, which hee had spoken vnto him, vpon a roule or booke.
Jérémie donc appela Baruc, fils de Nérija, et Baruc écrivit de la bouche de Jérémie dans le rouleau de livre toutes les paroles de l'Eternel, lesquelles il lui dicta.
5 And Ieremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut vp, and can not go into the House of the Lord.
Puis Jérémie donna charge à Baruc, en disant: je suis retenu, [et] je ne puis entrer dans la maison de l'Eternel.
6 Therefore goe thou, and reade the roule wherein thou hast written at my mouth the words of the Lord in the audience of the people in the Lordes House vpon the fasting day: also thou shalt reade them in the hearing of all Iudah, that come out of their cities.
Tu y entreras donc, et tu liras dans le rouleau que tu as écrit, [et que je t'ai dicté] de ma bouche, les paroles de l'Eternel, le peuple l'entendant, en la maison de l'Eternel, au jour du jeûne; tu les liras, dis-je, tous ceux de Juda, qui seront venus de leurs villes, l'entendant.
7 It may be that they will pray before the Lord, and euery one returne from his euill way, for great is the anger and the wrath, that the Lord hath declared against this people.
Peut-être que leur supplication sera reçue devant l'Eternel, et que chacun se détournera de sa mauvaise voie; car la colère et la fureur que l'Eternel a déclarée contre ce peuple [est] grande.
8 So Baruch the sonne of Neriah did according vnto all, that Ieremiah the Prophet commanded him, reading in the booke the wordes of the Lord in the Lords House.
Baruc donc fils de Nérija fit selon tout ce que Jérémie le Prophète lui avait commandé, lisant dans le livre les paroles de l'Eternel, en la maison de l'Eternel.
9 And in the fift yeere of Iehoiakim the sonne of Iosiah King of Iudah, in the ninth moneth, they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Ierusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Iudah vnto Ierusalem.
Or il arriva en la cinquième année de Jéhojakim fils de Josias Roi de Juda, au neuvième mois, qu'on publia le jeûne en la présence de l'Eternel à tout le peuple de Jérusalem et à tout le peuple qui était venu des villes de Juda à Jérusalem.
10 Then read Baruch in the booke the wordes of Ieremiah in the house of the Lord, in the chamber of Gemariah the sonne of Shaphan the secretarie, in the hier court at the entrie of the new gate of the Lordes house, in the hearing of all the people.
Et Baruc lut dans le livre les paroles de Jérémie, en la maison de l'Eternel, dans la chambre de Guémaria fils de Saphan, Secrétaire, dans le haut parvis, à l'entrée de la porte neuve de la maison de l'Eternel, tout le peuple l'entendant.
11 When Michaiah the sonne of Gemariah, the sonne of Shaphan had heard out of the booke all the wordes of the Lord,
Et quand Michée fils de Guémaria, fils de Saphan, eut ouï [par la lecture] du livre toutes les paroles de l'Eternel;
12 Then hee went downe to the Kings house into the Chancellours chamber, and loe, all the princes sate there, euen Elishama the Chancellour, and Delaiah the sonne of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the sonne of Achbor, and Gemariah the sonne of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the sonne of Hananiah, and all the princes.
Il descendit en la maison du Roi vers la chambre du Secrétaire, et voici tous les principaux y étaient assis, [savoir] Elisamah le Secrétaire, et Délaia fils de Sémahia, Elnathan fils de Hacbor, et Guémaria fils de Saphan, et Sédécias fils de Hanania, et tous les principaux.
13 Then Michaiah declared vnto them all the wordes that he had heard when Baruch read in the booke in the audience of the people.
Et Michée leur rapporta toutes les paroles qu'il avait ouïes quand Baruc lisait au livre le peuple l'entendant.
14 Therefore all the princes sent Iehudi the sonne of Nethaniah, the sonne of Shelemiah, the sonne of Chushi, vnto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hande the roule, wherein thou hast read in the audience of the people, and come. So Baruch the sonne of Neriah, tooke the roule in his hand, and came vnto them.
C'est pourquoi tous les principaux envoyèrent vers Baruc, Jéhudi, fils de Néthania, fils de Sélemja, fils de Cusci, pour lui dire: prends en ta main le rouleau dans lequel tu as lu, le peuple l'entendant, et viens ici. Baruch donc fils de Nérija prit le rouleau en sa main, et vint vers eux.
15 And they saide vnto him, Sit downe now, and reade it, that we may heare. So Baruch read it in their audience.
Et ils lui dirent: assieds-toi maintenant, et y lis, nous l'entendant; et Baruc lut, eux l'écoutant.
16 Now when they had heard all the wordes, they were afraid both one and other, and said vnto Baruch, We will certifie the King of all these wordes.
Et il arriva que sitôt qu'ils eurent ouï toutes ces paroles, ils furent effrayés entre eux, et dirent à Baruc: nous ne manquerons point de rapporter au Roi toutes ces paroles.
17 And they examined Baruch, saying, Tell vs nowe, howe diddest thou write all these wordes at his mouth?
Et ils interrogèrent Baruc, en disant: déclare-nous maintenant comment tu as écrit toutes ces paroles-là de sa bouche.
18 Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these wordes vnto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ynke in the booke.
Et Baruc leur dit: il me dictait de sa bouche toutes ces paroles, et je les écrivais avec de l'encre dans le livre.
19 Then saide the princes vnto Baruch, Goe, hide thee, thou and Ieremiah, and let no man knowe where ye be.
Alors les principaux dirent à Baruc: va, et te cache, toi et Jérémie, et que personne ne sache où vous serez.
20 And they went in to the King to the court, but they layde vp the roule in the chamber of Elishama the Chancellour and tolde the King all the wordes, that he might heare.
Puis ils s'en allèrent vers le Roi au parvis, mais ils mirent en garde le rouleau dans la chambre d'Elisamah le Secrétaire; et ils racontèrent toutes ces paroles, le Roi l'entendant.
21 So the King sent Iehudi to fet the roule, and he tooke it out of Elishama the Chancellours chamber, and Iehudi read it in the audience of the King, and in the audience of all the princes, which stoode beside the King.
Et le Roi envoya Jéhudi pour prendre le rouleau; et quand Jéhudi l'eut pris de la chambre d'Elisamah le Secrétaire, il le lut, le Roi et tous les principaux qui assistaient autour de lui l'entendant.
22 Nowe the King sate in the winter House, in the ninth moneth, and there was a fire burning before him.
Or le Roi était assis dans l'appartement d'hiver, au neuvième mois, et [il y avait] devant lui un brasier ardent.
23 And when Iehudi had read three, or foure sides, hee cut it with the penknife and cast it into the fire, that was on the hearth vntil all the roule was consumed in the fire, that was on the hearth.
Et il arriva qu'aussitôt que Jéhudi en eut lu trois ou quatre pages, le Roi le coupa avec le canif du Secrétaire, et le jeta au feu du brasier, jusqu'à ce que tout le rouleau fût consumé au feu qui [était] dans le brasier.
24 Yet they were not afraide, nor rent their garmets, neither the King, nor any of his seruants, that heard all these wordes.
Et ni le Roi ni tous ses serviteurs qui entendirent toutes ces paroles n'en furent point effrayés, et ne déchirèrent point leurs vêtements.
25 Neuerthelesse, Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah had besought the King, that he would not burne ye roule: but he would not heare them.
Toutefois Elnathan, et Délaia, et Guémaria intercédèrent envers le Roi, afin qu'il ne brûlât point le rouleau, mais il ne les écouta point.
26 But the King commanded Ierahmeel the sonne of Hammelech, and Seraiah the sonne of Azriel, and Shelemiah the sonne of Abdiel, to take Baruch the scribe, and Ieremiah the Prophet, but the Lord hid them.
Même le Roi commanda à Jérahméel fils de Hammélec, et à Séraja fils de Hazriel, et à Sélemja fils de Habdéel, de saisir Baruc le secrétaire, et Jérémie le Prophète; mais l'Eternel les cacha.
27 Then the word of the Lord came to Ieremiah (after that the King had burnt the roule and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Ieremiah) saying,
Et la parole de l'Eternel fut [adressée] à Jérémie, après que le Roi eut brûlé le rouleau, et les paroles que Baruc avait écrites de la bouche de Jérémie, en disant:
28 Take thee againe another roule and write in it all ye former words that were in the first roule which Iehoiakim the King of Iudah hath burnt,
Prends encore un autre rouleau, et y écris toutes les premières paroles qui étaient dans le premier rouleau que Jéhojakim Roi de Juda a brûlé.
29 And thou shalt say to Iehoiakim King of Iudah, Thus saith the Lord, Thou hast burnt this roule, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, that the King of Babel shall certainly come and destroye this land, and shall take thence both man and beast?
Et tu diras à Jéhojakim Roi de Juda: ainsi a dit l'Eternel: tu as brûlé ce rouleau, et tu as dit: pourquoi y as-tu écrit, en disant que le Roi de Babylone viendra certainement, et qu'il ravagera ce pays, et en exterminera les hommes et les bêtes?
30 Therefore thus saith the Lord of Iehoiakim King of Iudah, Hee shall haue none to sit vpon the throne of Dauid, and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heate, and in the night to the frost.
C'est pourquoi ainsi a dit l'Eternel touchant Jéhojakim Roi de Juda: il n'aura personne qui soit assis sur le trône de David, et son corps mort sera jeté de jour à la chaleur, et de nuit à la gelée.
31 And I will visite him and his seede, and his seruants for their iniquitie, and I will bring vpon them, and vpon the inhabitants of Ierusalem, and vpon the men of Iudah all the euil that I haue pronounced against them: but they would not heare.
Je visiterai donc sur lui, et sur sa postérité, et sur ses serviteurs, leur iniquité; et je ferai venir sur eux, et sur les habitants de Jérusalem, et sur les hommes de Juda, tout le mal que je leur ai prononcé, et qu'ils n'ont point écouté.
32 Then tooke Ieremiah another roule, and gaue it Baruch the scribe the sonne of Neriah, which wrote therein at the mouth of Ieremiah all the wordes of the booke which Iehoiakim King of Iudah had burnt in the fire, and there were added besides them many like wordes.
Jérémie donc prit un autre rouleau, et le donna à Baruc fils de Nérija Secrétaire, lequel y écrivit de la bouche de Jérémie toutes les paroles du livre que Jéhojakim Roi de Juda avait brûlé au feu, et plusieurs paroles semblables y furent encore ajoutées.
