Jeremiah 16
1 The worde of the Lord came also vnto mee, saying,
Et la parole du Seigneur me fut adressée, disant:
2 Thou shalt not take thee a wife, nor haue sonnes nor daughters in this place.
Tu ne prendras point de femme, et tu n’auras point de fils et de filles en ce lieu.
3 For thus sayeth the Lord concerning the sonnes, and concerning the daughters that are borne in this place, and concerning their mothers that beare them, and concerning their fathers, that beget them in this land,
Parce que voici ce que dit le Seigneur sur les fils et les filles qui sont enfantés en ce lieu, et sur les mères qui les ont enfantés, et sur leurs pères de la souche desquels ils sont nés en cette terre:
4 They shall die of deathes and diseases: they shall not be lamented, neither shall they be buried, but they shalbe as dung vpon the earth, and they shalbe consumed by the sword, and by famine, and their carkeises shall be meate for the foules of the heauen, and for the beasts of the earth.
De différentes morts de maladies ils mourront; ils ne seront pas pleures et ils ne seront pas ensevelis; comme un fumier, ils seront sur la face de la terre; par le glaive et par la famine ils seront consumés, et leur cadavre sera en pâture aux volatiles du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.
5 For thus saith the Lord, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither goe to lament, nor be moued for the: for I haue taken my peace, from this people, saith the Lord, euen mercy and compassion.
Car voici ce que dit le Seigneur: N’entre point dans une maison de festin; et ne va pas pour pleurer, et ne les console point; parce que j’ai retiré ma paix à ce peuple, dit le Seigneur, ma miséricorde et mes bontés.
6 Both the great, and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them nor cut themselues, nor make themselues balde for them.
Et ils mourront, grands et petits, sur cette terre, et ils ne seront pas ensevelis, ni pleures, et on ne se fera pas d’incision, et on ne se rasera pas la tête pour eux.
7 They shall not stretch out the hands for the in the mourning to comfort them for the dead, neither shall they giue them the cup of consolation to drinke for their father or for their mother.
Et on ne rompra pas parmi eux de pain pour consoler celui qui pleure un mort, et on ne leur donnera pas le calice à boire pour le consoler de la perte de son père et de sa mère.
8 Thou shalt not also goe into the house of feasting to sit with them to eate and to drinke.
Et tu n’entreras pas dans une maison d’un festin, afin de l’asseoir et de manger et de boire;
9 For thus sayth the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, Beholde, I wil cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, euen in your dayes the voyce of myrth, and the voyce of gladnes, the voyce of the bridegrome and the voyce of the bride.
Parce que voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Voilà que moi j’ôterai de ce lieu, à vos yeux et en vos jours, la voix de la joie et la voix de l’allégresse, la voix de l’époux et la voix de l’épouse.
10 And when thou shalt shewe this people all these wordes, and they shall say vnto thee, Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great plague against vs? or what is our iniquitie? and what is our sinne that we haue committed against the Lord our God?
Et lorsque tu annonceras à ce peuple toutes ces paroles, et qu’ils le diront: Pourquoi le Seigneur a-t-il prononcé sur nous tous ces grands maux? quelle est notre iniquité? et quel péché avons-nous commis contre le Seigneur notre Dieu?
11 Then shalt thou say vnto them, Because your fathers haue forsaken me, sayth the Lord, and haue walked after other gods, and haue serued them, and worshipped them, and haue forsaken me, and haue not kept my Law,
Tu leur diras: C’est parce que vos pères m’ont abandonné, dit le Seigneur, qu’ils ont couru après des dieux étrangers, qu’ils les ont servis, qu’ils les ont adorés; et qu’ils m’ont abandonné, et qu’ils n’ont point gardé ma loi.
12 (And ye haue done worse then your fathers: for beholde, you walke euery one after the stubbernesse of his wicked heart, and will not heare me)
Mais vous-même, vous avez fait pis que vos pères; car voilà que chacun marche à la suite de la dépravation de son cœur mauvais, afin de ne pas m’écouter.
13 Therefore will I driue you out of this land into a lande that ye knowe not, neither you, nor your fathers, and there shall ye serue other gods day and night: for I will shew you no grace.
Et je vous jetterai de cette terre dans une terre que vous ignorez comme vos pères; et vous servirez là des dieux étrangers, le jour et la nuit, qui ne vous donneront pas de repos.
14 Behold therfore, saith the Lord, the dayes come that it shall no more be sayde, The Lord liueth, which brought vp the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt,
À cause de cela, voilà que des jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, et l’on ne dira plus: Le Seigneur vit! qui a retiré les fils d’Israël de la terre d’Egypte,
15 But the Lord liueth, that brought vp the children of Israel from the lande of the North, and from all the landes where hee had scattered them, and I wil bring them againe into their land that I gaue vnto their fathers.
Mais: Vive le Seigneur qui a tiré les fils d’Israël de la terre de l’aquilon, et de toutes les terres où je les ai jetés; et je les ramènerai dans leur terre que j’ai donnée à leurs pères.
16 Behold, sayth the Lord, I wil send out many fishers, and they shall fish them, and after, will I send out many hunters, and they shall hunt them from euery mountaine and from euery hill, and out of the caues of the rockes.
Voilà que moi j’enverrai des pêcheurs nombreux, dit le Seigneur, et ils pécheront; et après cela je leur enverrai beaucoup de chasseurs, qui leur feront la chasse sur toute montagne, sur toute colline et dans toutes les cavernes des rochers;
17 For mine eyes are vpon al their wayes: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquitie hid from mine eyes.
Parce que mes yeux sont sur toutes les voies; elles ne sont pas cachées à ma face, et leur iniquité n’est pas voilée à mes yeux.
18 And first I will recompense their iniquitie and their sinne double, because they haue defiled my lande, and haue filled mine inheritance with their filthie carions and their abominations.
Et je leur rendrai d’abord au double leurs iniquités et leurs péchés, parce qu’ils ont souillé ma terre de morts pour leurs idoles, et que de leurs abominations ils ont rempli mon héritage.
19 O Lord, thou art my force, and my strength and my refuge in the day of affliction: the Gentiles shall come vnto thee from the ends of the world, and shall say, Surely our fathers haue inherited lies, and vanitie, wherein was no profite.
Seigneur, mon courage, ma force et mon refuge au jour de la tribulation, vers vous viendront des nations des extrémités de la terre, et elles diront: Il est vrai que nos pères ont possédé le mensonge et la vanité, qui ne leur a pas été utile.
20 Shall a man make gods vnto himselfe, and they are no gods?
Est-ce qu’un homme se fera des dieux, lesquels même ne sont pas des dieux?
21 Beholde, therefore I will this once teach them: I will shewe them mine hande and my power, and they shall know that my Name is the Lord.
C’est pourquoi voici que moi je leur montrerai cette fois, je leur montrerai ma main et ma force, et ils sauront que mon nom est le Seigneur.
