Jeremiah 16
1 The worde of the Lord came also vnto mee, saying,
La parole de l’Éternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:
2 Thou shalt not take thee a wife, nor haue sonnes nor daughters in this place.
Tu ne prendras point de femme, Et tu n’auras dans ce lieu ni fils ni filles.
3 For thus sayeth the Lord concerning the sonnes, and concerning the daughters that are borne in this place, and concerning their mothers that beare them, and concerning their fathers, that beget them in this land,
Car ainsi parle l’Éternel sur les fils et les filles Qui naîtront en ce lieu, Sur leurs mères qui les auront enfantés, Et sur leurs pères qui les auront engendrés dans ce pays:
4 They shall die of deathes and diseases: they shall not be lamented, neither shall they be buried, but they shalbe as dung vpon the earth, and they shalbe consumed by the sword, and by famine, and their carkeises shall be meate for the foules of the heauen, and for the beasts of the earth.
Ils mourront consumés par la maladie; On ne leur donnera ni larmes ni sépulture; Ils seront comme du fumier sur la terre; Ils périront par l’épée et par la famine; Et leurs cadavres serviront de pâture Aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.
5 For thus saith the Lord, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither goe to lament, nor be moued for the: for I haue taken my peace, from this people, saith the Lord, euen mercy and compassion.
Car ainsi parle l’Éternel: N’entre pas dans une maison de deuil, N’y va pas pleurer, te lamenter avec eux; Car j’ai retiré à ce peuple ma paix, dit l’Éternel, Ma bonté et ma miséricorde.
6 Both the great, and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them nor cut themselues, nor make themselues balde for them.
Grands et petits mourront dans ce pays; On ne leur donnera point de sépulture; On ne les pleurera point, On ne se fera point d’incisions, Et l’on ne se rasera pas pour eux.
7 They shall not stretch out the hands for the in the mourning to comfort them for the dead, neither shall they giue them the cup of consolation to drinke for their father or for their mother.
On ne rompra pas le pain dans le deuil Pour consoler quelqu’un au sujet d’un mort, Et l’on n’offrira pas la coupe de consolation Pour un père ou pour une mère.
8 Thou shalt not also goe into the house of feasting to sit with them to eate and to drinke.
N’entre pas non plus dans une maison de festin, Pour t’asseoir avec eux, Pour manger et pour boire.
9 For thus sayth the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, Beholde, I wil cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, euen in your dayes the voyce of myrth, and the voyce of gladnes, the voyce of the bridegrome and the voyce of the bride.
Car ainsi parle l’Éternel des armées, le Dieu d’Israël: Voici, je ferai cesser dans ce lieu, sous vos yeux et de vos jours, Les cris de réjouissance et les cris d’allégresse, Les chants du fiancé et les chants de la fiancée.
10 And when thou shalt shewe this people all these wordes, and they shall say vnto thee, Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great plague against vs? or what is our iniquitie? and what is our sinne that we haue committed against the Lord our God?
Lorsque tu annonceras à ce peuple toutes ces choses, Ils te diront: Pourquoi l’Éternel nous menace-t-il de tous ces grands malheurs? Quelle est notre iniquité? Quel péché avons-nous commis contre l’Éternel, notre Dieu?
11 Then shalt thou say vnto them, Because your fathers haue forsaken me, sayth the Lord, and haue walked after other gods, and haue serued them, and worshipped them, and haue forsaken me, and haue not kept my Law,
Alors tu leur répondras: Vos pères m’ont abandonné, dit l’Éternel, Ils sont allés après d’autres dieux, Ils les ont servis et se sont prosternés devant eux; Ils m’ont abandonné, et n’ont point observé ma loi.
12 (And ye haue done worse then your fathers: for beholde, you walke euery one after the stubbernesse of his wicked heart, and will not heare me)
Et vous, vous avez fait le mal plus encore que vos pères; Et voici, vous suivez chacun les penchants de votre mauvais cœur, Pour ne point m’écouter.
13 Therefore will I driue you out of this land into a lande that ye knowe not, neither you, nor your fathers, and there shall ye serue other gods day and night: for I will shew you no grace.
Je vous transporterai de ce pays Dans un pays que vous n’avez point connu, Ni vous, ni vos pères; Et là, vous servirez les autres dieux jour et nuit, Car je ne vous accorderai point de grâce.
14 Behold therfore, saith the Lord, the dayes come that it shall no more be sayde, The Lord liueth, which brought vp the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt,
C’est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent, dit l’Éternel, Où l’on ne dira plus: L’Éternel est vivant, Lui qui a fait monter du pays d’Égypte les enfants d’Israël!
15 But the Lord liueth, that brought vp the children of Israel from the lande of the North, and from all the landes where hee had scattered them, and I wil bring them againe into their land that I gaue vnto their fathers.
Mais on dira: L’Éternel est vivant, Lui qui a fait monter les enfants d’Israël du pays du septentrion Et de tous les pays où il les avait chassés! Je les ramènerai dans leur pays, Que j’avais donné à leurs pères.
16 Behold, sayth the Lord, I wil send out many fishers, and they shall fish them, and after, will I send out many hunters, and they shall hunt them from euery mountaine and from euery hill, and out of the caues of the rockes.
Voici, j’envoie une multitude de pêcheurs, dit l’Éternel, et ils les pêcheront; Et après cela j’enverrai une multitude de chasseurs, et ils les chasseront De toutes les montagnes et de toutes les collines, Et des fentes des rochers.
17 For mine eyes are vpon al their wayes: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquitie hid from mine eyes.
Car mes yeux sont attentifs à toutes leurs voies, Elles ne sont point cachées devant ma face, Et leur iniquité ne se dérobe point à mes regards.
18 And first I will recompense their iniquitie and their sinne double, because they haue defiled my lande, and haue filled mine inheritance with their filthie carions and their abominations.
Je leur donnerai d’abord le double salaire de leur iniquité et de leur péché, Parce qu’ils ont profané mon pays, Parce qu’ils ont rempli mon héritage Des cadavres de leurs idoles et de leurs abominations.
19 O Lord, thou art my force, and my strength and my refuge in the day of affliction: the Gentiles shall come vnto thee from the ends of the world, and shall say, Surely our fathers haue inherited lies, and vanitie, wherein was no profite.
Éternel, ma force et mon appui, mon refuge au jour de la détresse! Les nations viendront à toi des extrémités de la terre, Et elles diront: Nos pères n’ont hérité que le mensonge, De vaines idoles, qui ne servent à rien.
20 Shall a man make gods vnto himselfe, and they are no gods?
L’homme peut-il se faire des dieux, Qui ne sont pas des dieux?
21 Beholde, therefore I will this once teach them: I will shewe them mine hande and my power, and they shall know that my Name is the Lord.
C’est pourquoi voici, je leur fais connaître, cette fois, Je leur fais connaître ma puissance et ma force; Et ils sauront que mon nom est l’Éternel.
