Jeremiah 10
1 Heare ye the worde of the Lord that he speaketh vnto you, O house of Israel.
Ouvi a palavra que o SENHOR fala sobre vós, ó casa de Israel.
2 Thus saith the Lord, Learne not the way of the heathen, and be not afraid for the signes of heauen, though the heathen be afraid of such.
Assim diz o SENHOR: Não aprendais o caminho das nações, nem vos espanteis dos sinais do céu; ainda que as nações as temam.
3 For the customes of the people are vaine: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest (which is the worke of the handes of the carpenter) with the axe,
Porque as ordenanças dos povos são inúteis; pois cortam madeira do bosque, obra de mãos de artífice, com machado.
4 And another decketh it with siluer, and with golde: they fasten it with nailes, and hammers, that it fall not.
Com prata e ouro a enfeitam; com pregos e martelo a firmam, para que não se abale.
5 The idoles stande vp as the palme tree, but speake not: they are borne because they cannot go feare them not, for they cannot do euill, neither can they do good.
São como espantalhos numa plantação, não podem falar; têm que ser levados, pois não podem andar. Não tenhais temor deles; pois nem podem fazer o mal, nem neles há [capacidade de fazer] o bem.
6 There is none like vnto thee, O Lord: thou art great, and thy name is great in power.
Pois ninguém há semelhante a ti, SENHOR! Grande és tu, e grande é teu nome em poder!
7 Who would not feare thee, O King of nations? for to thee appertaineth the dominion: for among all the wise men of the Gentiles, and in al their kingdomes there is none like thee.
Quem não temeria a ti, ó Rei das nações? Porque a ti pertence [o temor]; porque entre todos os sábios das nações, e em todos seus reinos, não há semelhante a ti.
8 But, altogether they dote, and are foolish: for the stocke is a doctrine of vanitie.
E juntamente se tornaram irracionais e tolos. Ensino inútil é o [ídolo] de madeira.
9 Siluer plates are brought from Tarshish, and golde from Vphaz, for the worke of the workeman, and the handes of the founder: the blewe silke, and the purple is their clothing: all these things are made by cunning men.
Trazem prata estendida de Társis, e ouro de Ufaz; [para] trabalho do artífice, e das mãos do fundidor; eles os vestem de azul celeste e de púrpura; todos eles são obra de [trabalhadores] habilidosos.
10 But the Lord is the God of trueth: he is the liuing God, and an euerlasting King: at his anger the earth shall tremble, and the nations cannot abide his wrath.
Mas o SENHOR Deus é a verdade; ele é Deus vivo e o Rei eterno; a terra treme pela sua ira, e as nações não podem suportar sua fúria.
11 (Thus shall you say vnto them, The gods that haue not made the heauens and the earth, shall perish from the earth, and from vnder these heauens)
Assim lhes direis: Os deuses que não fizeram os céus nem a terra perecerão da terra e de debaixo deste céu.
12 He hath made the earth by his power, and established the worlde by his wisedome, and hath stretched out the heauen by his discretion.
[Mas o SENHOR] é aquele que fez a terra com seu poder, que preparou o mundo com sua sabedoria, e estendeu os céus com seu entendimento.
13 Hee giueth by his voyce the multitude of waters in the heauen, and he causeth the cloudes to ascend from the endes of the earth: he turneth lightnings to rayne, and bringeth forth the winde out of his treasures.
Quando ele pronuncia sua voz, [logo] há ruído de águas no céu, e faz subir vapores dos confins da terra; faz os relâmpagos com a chuva, e faz sair o vento de seus tesouros.
14 Euery man is a beast by his owne knowledge: euery founder is confounded by the grauen image: for his melting is but falsehood, and there is no breath therein.
Todo homem se tornou irracional e sem conhecimento; envergonha-se todo fundidor de imagem de escultura, pois sua imagem fundida é uma mentira, e nelas não há espírito.
15 They are vanitie, and the worke of errours: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
Elas são inúteis, obras de engano; no tempo de sua punição, virão a perecer.
16 The portion of Iaakob is not like them: for he is the maker of all things, and Israel is the rodde of his inheritance: the Lord of hostes is his Name.
A Porção de Jacó não é como eles; porque ele é o Formador de tudo, e Israel é a tribo de sua herança; EU-SOU dos exércitos é o seu nome.
17 Gather vp thy wares out of the land, O thou that dwellest in the strong place.
Recolhe tuas mercadorias da terra; tu que habitas em cerco,
18 For thus sayth the Lord, Beholde, at this time I will throwe as with a sling the inhabitants of the lande, and will trouble them, and they shall finde it so.
Porque assim diz o SENHOR: Eis que desta vez lançarei como que por uma funda aos moradores da terra; e eu os oprimirei, de modo que sejam achados [em opressão].
19 Wo is me for my destruction, and my grieuous plague: but I thought, Yet it is my sorow, and I will beare it.
Ai de mim, por causa do meu quebrantamento! Minha ferida [me] causa grande dor. E eu havia dito: Isto de fato é uma enfermidade, e terei que suportá-la.
20 My tabernacle is destroyed, and all my coardes are broken: my children are gone from me, and are not: there is none to spread out my tent any more, and to set vp my curtaines.
Minha tenda está destruída, e todas as minhas cordas arrebentadas; meus filhos saíram [de perto] de mim, e nenhum deles há; ninguém há que estenda minha tenda, nem que levante minhas cortinas;
21 For the Pastours are become beasts, and haue not sought the Lord: therefore haue they none vnderstanding: and all the flockes of their pastures are scattered.
Porque os pastores se tornaram irracionais, e não buscaram ao SENHOR; por isso não agiram prudentemente, e todo o seu rebanho se dispersou.
22 Beholde, the noyse of the brute is come, and a great commotion out of the North countrey to make the cities of Iudah desolate, and a denne of dragons.
Eis que vem uma voz de aviso, e um grande tremor da terra do norte; para tornar em desolação as cidades de Judá, em morada de chacais.
23 O Lord, I knowe, that the way of man is not in himselfe, neyther is it in man to walke and to direct his steps.
Eu sei, SENHOR, que não pertence ao homem o seu caminho, nem ao homem que anda a direção de seus passos.
24 O Lord, correct mee, but with iudgement, not in thine anger, least thou bring mee to nothing.
Corrige-me, SENHOR, porém com moderação; não em tua ira, para que não me destruas.
25 Powre out thy wrath vpon the heathen, that knowe thee not, and vpon the families that call not on thy Name: for they haue eaten vp Iaakob and deuoured him and consumed him, and haue made his habitation desolate.
Derrama tua ira sobre as nações que não te conhecem, e sobre os povos que não invocam o teu nome; pois devoraram a Jacó; eles o devoraram, consumiram e assolaram sua morada.
