Isaiah 48

1 Hear yee this, O house of Iaakob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come out of the waters of Iudah: which sweare by the Name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousnesse.

Ecoutez ceci, maison de Jacob, vous qui vous réclamez du nom d’Israël, qui êtes issus de la source de Juda, qui jurez par le nom de l’Eternel et invoquez le Dieu d’Israël non toutefois avec sincérité et droiture!

2 For they are called of the holy citie, and staie themselues vpon the God of Israel, whose Name is the Lord of hostes.

Car ils se désignent d’après la Ville sainte et s’appuient sur le Dieu d’Israël, sur Celui qui s’appelle Eternel-Cebaot!

3 I haue declared ye former things of old, and they went out of my mouth, and I shewed them: I did them suddenly, and they came to passe.

Les choses passées, je les ai annoncées longtemps d’avance. Une fois énoncées par ma bouche et prédites par moi, soudain je les ai réalisées et elles se sont accomplies,

4 Because I knewe, that thou art obstinate, and thy necke is an yron sinew, and thy brow brasse,

parce que je savais que tu es opiniâtre, que ta nuque est une barre de fer et que ton front est d’airain.

5 Therefore I haue declared it to thee of old: before it came to passe, I shewed it thee, lest thou shouldest say, Mine idole hath done them, and my carued image, and my molten image hath commanded them.

D’Avance donc je t’ai informé, instruit des événements non encore arrivés, pour que tu ne dises pas: "Mon idole les a accomplis, mes statues de pierre et de métal les ont ordonnés."

6 Thou hast heard, behold all this, and wil not yee declare it? I haue shewed thee newe things, euen now, and hid things, which thou knewest not.

Tu l’as entendu vois tout cela de tes propres yeux; et à présent ne parlerez-vous donc pas? Désormais je te révélerai des faits nouveaux, des faits encore cachés que tu ne connais pas,

7 They are created now, and not of olde, and euen before this thou heardest them not, lest thou shouldest say, Beholde, I knewe them.

des faits qui se produisent maintenant, qui n’ont pas existé plus tôt; avant ce jour tu n’en as rien su, tu ne saurais dire: "Je les connaissais!"

8 Yet thou heardest them not, neither diddest know them, neither yet was thine eare opened of olde: for I knewe that thou wouldest grieuously transgresse: therefore haue I called thee a transgressour from the wombe.

Non, tu n’en as rien entendu, rien connu; jamais ton oreille n’en a été frappée, parce que je savais que grande est ta perfidie et que tu as reçu ce nom: Infidèle dès le berceau.

9 For my Names sake will I defer my wrath, and for my praise will I refraine it from thee, that I cut thee not off.

Pour l’honneur de mon nom je retiens longtemps ma colère, en faveur de ma gloire je la comprime, pour ne pas te perdre.

10 Behold, I haue fined thee, but not as siluer: I haue chosen thee in the fornace of affliction.

Certes, je t’ai éprouvée mais non comme on éprouve l’argent, je t’ai fait passer par le creuset du malheur.

11 For mine owne sake, for mine owne sake wil I doe it: for how should my Name be polluted? surely I wil not giue my glory vnto another.

C’Est pour moi, pour moi que je le fais, car pourquoi mon honneur serait-il terni? Cet honneur, je ne le prête à nul autre!

12 Heare me, O Iaakob and Israel, my called, I am, I am the first, and I am the last.

Ecoute-moi, Jacob, et toi Israël, mon prédestiné! Je suis toujours le même, je suis le Premier comme je suis le Dernier.

13 Surely mine hand hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heaues: when I cal them, they stand vp together.

C’Est ma main qui a fondé la terre, ma droite qui a étendu les cieux. Je leur adresse mon appel: aussitôt ils se présentent.

14 All you, assemble your selues, and heare: which among them hath declared these thinges? The Lord hath loued him: he wil doe his will in Babel, and his arme shalbe against the Chaldeans.

Assemblez-vous tous et écoutez! Qui parmi eux a annoncé ces choses? Il est aimé du Seigneur, il accomplit sa volonté contre Babel et manifeste sa puissance contre la Chaldée.

15 I, euen I haue spoken it, and I haue called him: I haue brought him, and his way shall prosper.

Moi, moi j’ai prononcé, je l’ai appelé, je l’ai amené, et il réussira dans son entreprise.

16 Come neere vnto me: heare ye this: I haue not spoken it in secret from the beginning: from the time that the thing was, I was there, and now the Lord God and his Spirit hath sent me.

Approchez de moi, écoutez ceci! Dès le début, je n’ai point parlé en secret; du jour où l’événement s’est réalisé, j’étais présent. Et maintenant, dit le prophète, le Seigneur, l’Eternel m’envoie, et son inspiration est en moi.

17 Thus saith the Lord thy redeemer, the Holy one of Israel, I am the Lord thy God, which teach thee to profite, and lead thee by the way, that thou shouldest goe.

Ainsi parle l’Eternel, ton libérateur, le Saint d’Israël: "Je suis l’Eternel, ton Dieu, qui t’instruis pour ton bien, qui te dirige dans la voie que tu dois suivre.

18 Oh that thou haddest hearkened to my commandements! then had thy prosperitie bene as the floude, and thy righteousnesse as the waues of the sea.

Ah! Si seulement tu obéissais à mes ordres, ta prospérité serait comme le fleuve, et ton bonheur comme les flots de la mer;

19 Thy seede also had beene as the sande, and the fruite of thy body like the grauell thereof: his name should not haue bene cut off nor destroied before me.

ta postérité serait nombreuse comme le sable, le fruit de tes entrailles comme les galets, et ton nom ne serait ni effacé ni aboli devant moi."

20 Goe yee out of Babel: flee yee from the Chaldeans, with a voice of ioy: tel and declare this: shewe it foorth to the ende of the earth: say yee, The Lord hath redeemed his seruant Iaakob.

Sortez de Babel, échappez-vous de Chaldée! Avec des accents joyeux, annoncez, proclamez la nouvelle, propagez-la jusqu’aux extrémités de la terre! Dites: L’Eternel a délivré son serviteur Jacob!

21 And they were not thirstie: hee led them through the wildernesse: hee caused the waters to flowe out of the rocke for them: for he claue the rocke, and the water gushed out.

Et ils n’ont pas souffert de la soif dans les lieux arides où il les a conduits; il a fait pour eux ruisseler l’eau du rocher, il a fendu le granit et les sources ont jailli!"

22 There is no peace, sayeth the Lord, vnto the wicked.

Point de paix, dit l’Eternel, pour les méchants!
