Isaiah 36

1 Nowe in the fourteenth yeere of King Hezekiah, Saneherib King of Asshur came vp against al the strong cities of Iudah, and tooke them.

El año catorce del rey Ezequías, subió Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, contra todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, y se apoderó de ellas.

2 And the King of Asshur sent Rabshakeh from Lachish toward Ierusalem vnto King Hezekiah, with a great hoste, and he stood by ye conduite of the vpper poole in the path of the fullers fielde.

Y envió el rey de Asiria a Rabsacés, con muchas tropas, desde Laquís a Jerusalén, al rey Ezequías. (Rabsacés) tomó posición junto al acueducto del estanque superior, en el camino del campo del Batanero.

3 Then came foorth vnto him Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah the steward of the house, and Shebna the chanceler, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder.

Salieron a encontrarlo Eliaquim, hijo de Helcías, prefecto del palacio, Sobná secretario, y Joan, hijo de Asaf, canciller.

4 And Rabshakeh sayde vnto them, Tell you Hezekiah, I pray you, Thus sayth the great King, the King of Asshur, What confidence is this, wherein thou trustest?

Y les dijo Rabsacés: “Decid a Ezequías: Así dice el gran rey, el rey de Asiria: ¿Qué confianza es esa en que te apoyas?

5 I say, Surely I haue eloquence, but counsell and strength are for the warre: on whom then doest thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

Yo digo que tu designio y tus esfuerzos en hacerme la guerra no son más que vanas palabras. ¿En quién confías para rebelarte contra mí?

6 Loe, thou trustest in this broken staffe of reede on Egypt, whereupon if a man leane, it will goe into his hand, and pearce it: so is Pharaoh King of Egypt, vnto all that trust in him.

He aquí que cuentas con el apoyo de Egipto, esa caña cascada, que penetra y horada la mano del que se apoya en ella. Así es el Faraón, rey de Egipto, para cuantos en él confían.

7 But if thou say to me, We trust in the Lord our God. Is not that he, whose hie places and whose altars Hezekiah tooke downe, and said to Iudah and to Ierusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?

Y si me decís: «Nosotros confiamos en Yahvé, Dios nuestro», ¿no es acaso ese el mismo cuyos lugares altos y altares ha destruido Ezequías, diciendo a Judá y a Jerusalén: «Ante este altar habéis de postraros»?

8 Nowe therefore giue hostages to my lorde the King of Asshur, and I wil giue thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders vpon them.

Entiende con mi señor, el rey de Asiria, y yo te daré dos mil caballos, si tú puedes encontrar jinetes para ellos.

9 For howe canst thou despise any captaine of the least of my lordes seruants? and put thy trust on Egypt for charets and for horsemen?

¿Cómo vas tú a hacer frente a un solo jefe, aunque fuese de los menores servidores de mi señor? Pero tú pones tu confianza en Egipto a causa de los carros y de la caballería.

10 And am I now come vp without the Lord to this land to destroy it? The Lord sayd vnto me, Goe vp against this land and destroy it.

Ahora, ¿he acaso subido yo sin Yahvé, contra esta tierra para destruirla? Es Yahvé mismo quien me ha dicho: ¡Sube contra esta tierra y destrúyela!”

11 Then sayd Eliakim and Shebna and Ioah vnto Rabshakeh, Speake, I pray thee, to thy seruants in the Aramites language, (for we vnderstand it) and talke not with vs in the Iewes tongue, in the audience of the people that are on the wall.

Entonces Eliaquim, Sobná y Joah dijeron a Rabsacés: “Habla, por favor, en arameo con tus siervos, pues lo entendemos, y no nos hables en judaico delante de esa gente que está sobre la muralla.”

12 Then said Rabshakeh, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee to speake these wordes, and not to the men that sit on the wall? that they may eate their owne doung, and drinke their owne pisse with you?

Respondió Rabsacés: “¿Por ventura me ha enviado mi señor a decir estas cosas a tu señor y a ti, y no más bien a estos hombres, sentados sobre el muro para comerse con vosotros sus propios excrementos y a beberse sus propios orines?”

13 So Rabshakeh stood, and cryed with a loude voyce in the Iewes language, and sayd, Heare the wordes of the great King, of the King of Asshur.

Y se puso en pie Rabsacés y gritó a gran voz en lengua judaica, diciendo: “Oíd lo que dice el gran rey, el rey de Asiria.

14 Thus saith the King, Let not Hezekiah deceiue you: for he shall not be able to deliuer you.

Así dice el rey: No os engañe Ezequías, pues no podrá libraros.

15 Neither let Hezekiah make you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliuer vs: this citie shall not be giuen ouer into the hand of the King of Asshur.

Tampoco os haga confiar Ezequías en Yahvé, diciendo: Sin falta nos librara Yahvé; no será entregada esta ciudad en manos del rey de Asiria.

16 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus sayth the King of Asshur, Make appointment with me, and come out to me, that euery man may eate of his owne vine, and euery man of his owne fig tree, and drinke euery man the water of his owne well,

No escuchéis a Ezequías; pues así dice el rey de Asiria: Haced paces conmigo, y venid a mí, y cada uno comerá de su vid y de su higuera, y cada uno beberá el agua de su cisterna,

17 Till I come and bring you to a land like your owne land, euen a land of wheate, and wine, a land of bread and vineyardes,

hasta que yo venga y os lleve a una tierra parecida a la vuestra, tierra de trigo y de vino, tierra de pan y de viñas.

18 Least Hezekiah deceiue you, saying, The Lord wil deliuer vs. Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his land out of the hand of the King of Asshur?

Por eso, no os engañe Ezequías, diciendo: Yahvé nos librará. ¿Acaso los dioses de los pueblos han salvado su respectiva tierra de las manos del rey de Asiria?

19 Where is the god of Hamath, and of Arpad? where is the god of Sepharuaim? or howe haue they deliuered Samaria out of mine hand?

¿Dónde están los dioses de Hamat y Arpad? ¿Dónde los dioses de Sefarvaim? ¿Acaso han librado a Samaria de mis manos?

20 Who is hee among all the gods of these lands, that hath deliuered their countrey out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliuer Ierusalem out of mine hand?

¿Cuál de todos los dioses de estos países pudo salvar su tierra de mi mano? Mucho menos podrá Yahvé librar de mi mano a Jerusalén.”

21 Then they kept silence, and answered him not a worde: for the Kings commandement was, saying, Answere him not.

Ellos quedaron callados, y no le respondieron palabra, porque así lo había mandado el rey, diciendo: “No le respondáis.”

22 Then came Eliakim the sonne of Hilkiah the steward of the house, and Shebna the chanceller, and Ioah the sonne of Asaph the recorder, vnto Hezekiah with rent clothes, and tolde him the wordes of Rabshakeh.

Mas Eliaquim, hijo de Helcías, prefecto del palacio, Sobná secretario, y Joah, hijo de Asaf, canciller, rasgaron sus vestidos, y regresados a Ezequías le refirieron las palabras de Rabsacés.
