Isaiah 28

1 Woe to the crowne of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim: for his glorious beautie shall be a fading flowre, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fat, and are ouercome with wine.

Usæl den stolte kruna åt dei drukne i Efraim og den folnande blomen, den fagre prydnad som brikjer yver den feite dalen, der dei ligg dauddrukne av vin.

2 Beholde, the Lord hath a mightie and strong hoste, like a tempest of haile, and a whirlewinde that ouerthroweth, like a tempest of mightie waters that ouerflowe, which throwe to the ground mightily.

Sjå, ein sterk og veldug sender Herren, lik ein hagleling, ein øydande storm, lik eit fløde av velduge, yverfløymande vatn, som slær alt til jordi med magt.

3 They shall be troden vnder foote, euen the crowne and the pride of the drunkards of Ephraim.

Med føter skal ho verta nedtrakka, den stolte kruna åt dei drukne i Efraim!

4 For his glorious beautie shall be a fading floure, which is vpon the head of the valley of them that be fatte, and as the hastie fruite afore sommer, which when hee that looketh vpon it, seeth it, while it is in his hand, he eateth it.

Og den folnande blomen, den fagre prydnaden, som brikjer yver den feite dalen, skal verta som den tidlege fika, fyrr sumaren er komen - so snart ein ser henne, so set ein henne til livs medan ein endå held henne i handi.

5 In that day shall the Lord of hostes be for a crowne of glory, and for a diademe of beautie vnto the residue of his people:

På den dagen vert Herren, allhers drott, ei fager krune og ein storgild krans for leivningen av sitt folk,

6 And for a spirite of iudgement to him that sitteth in iudgement, and for strength vnto them that turne away the battell to the gate.

og ei doms ande for deim som sit til doms, og styrke for deim som driv krigen attende til porten.

7 But they haue erred because of wine, and are out of the way by strong drinke: the priest and the prophet haue erred by strong drinke: they are swallowed vp with wine: they haue gone astraye through strong drinke: they faile in vision: they stumble in iudgement.

Men ogso desse ragar av vin og skjanglar av sterk drykk. Prest og profet ragar av sterk drykk, er dauddrukne av vin, skjanglar av sterk drykk. Dei ragar i syni, dei skjanglar i domen;

8 For all their tables are full of filthy vomiting: no place is cleane.

for alle bordi er fulle av ufyselegt spy, det finst ikkje ein rein flekk.

9 Whome shall he teache knowledge? and whome shall he make to vnderstand the thinges that hee heareth? them that are weyned from the milke, and drawen from the breastes.

«Kven er det han vil læra, og kven er det han vil få til å høyra på seg? Er det born som nett er avvande, tekne frå brjostet?

10 For precept must be vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle, and there a litle.

For gnag og gnag, gnag og gnag, gnål og gnål, gnål og gnål, noko her og noko der fer han med.»

11 For with a stammering tongue and with a strange language shall he speake vnto this people.

Ja vel, med stamande lippor og i eit framandt tungemål skal han tala til dette folket,

12 Vnto whome hee saide, This is the rest: giue rest to him that is weary: and this is the refreshing, but they would not heare.

han som sagde til deim: «Dette er ro, lat den trøytte få kvila, og dette er kvila.» Men dei vilde’kje høyra.

13 Therefore shall the worde of the Lord be vnto them precept vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle and there a litle, that they may goe, and fall backward, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

So skal då Herrens ord verta deim gnag og gnag, gnag og gnag, gnål og gnål, gnål og gnål, noko her, noko der, so dei skal ganga og detta baklenges og verta sundbrotne og bundne og fanga.

14 Wherefore, heare the worde of the Lord, ye scornefull men that rule this people, which is at Ierusalem.

Difor, høyr Herrens ord, de spottarar, de herrar yver dette folket som er i Jerusalem!

15 Because ye haue said, We haue made a couenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement: though a scourge runne ouer, and passe through, it shall not come at vs: for we haue made falshood our refuge, and vnder vanitie are we hid, (Sheol h7585)

For de segjer: «Me hev gjort ein avtale med dauden og eit samband med helheimen; når den susande svipa fer fram, skal ho ikkje nå oss; for me hev gjort lygni til livd og svikråd til skjol.» (Sheol h7585)

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I will laye in Zion a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation. Hee that beleeueth, shall not make haste.

Difor, so segjer Herren, Herren: Sjå, eg er den som hev grunna i Sion ein stein, ein prøvd stein, ein dyrverdig fast grunna hyrnestein; den som trur, tek det med ro.

17 Iudgement also will I laye to the rule, and righteousnesse to the balance, and the haile shall sweepe away the vaine confidence, and the waters shall ouerflowe the secret place.

Eg gjer rett til mælesnor og rettferd til lodd, og hagl skal riva burt lygnlivdi, og skylet skal vatnet skylja burt.

18 And your couenant with death shalbe disanulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand: when a scourge shall runne ouer and passe through, then shall ye be trode downe by it. (Sheol h7585)

Og dykkar avtale med dauden skal verta stroken, og dykkar samband med helheimen skal ikkje standa fast. Når den susande svipa fer fram, skal de verta nedslegne. (Sheol h7585)

19 When it passeth ouer, it shall take you away: for it shall passe through euery morning in the day, and in the night, and there shalbe onely feare to make you to vnderstand the hearing.

Kvar gong ho fer fram, skal ho riva dykk burt. For kvar morgon skal ho fara fram, um dagen og um natti, og den reine skræma vert det når de lyt agta på bodskapen.

20 For the bed is streight that it can not suffice, and the couering narowe that one can not wrappe himselfe.

For sengi er for stutt til å strekkja seg i, og åklædet er for smalt til å sveipa seg i.

21 For the Lord shall stand as in mount Perazim: hee shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his worke, his strage worke, and bring to passe his acte, his strange acte.

For Herren skal reisa seg liksom ved fjellet Perasim, han skal harmast liksom i dalen ved Gibeon; han skal gjera sitt verk, eit underlegt verk, han skal gjera sitt arbeid, eit sjeldsynt arbeid.

22 Nowe therefore be no mockers, least your bondes increase: for I haue heard of the Lord of hostes a consumption, euen determined vpon the whole earth.

Og no, lat vera med å spotta, so bandi dykkar ikkje må verta stramare! For um øyding og fastsett straffedom hev eg høyrt frå Herren, Allhers-Herren, yver heile jordi.

23 Hearken ye, and heare my voyce: hearken ye, and heare my speach.

Vend øyra til og høyr mi røyst, gjev gaum og høyr kva eg segjer!

24 Doeth the plowe man plowe all the day, to sowe? doeth he open, and breake the clots of his ground?

Når plogmannen vil så, held han då stødt på med å pløgja og fora og horva?

25 When he hath made it plaine, wil he not then sowe the fitches, and sowe cummin, and cast in wheat by measure, and the appointed barly and rye in their place?

Når han hev jamna åkeren, spreier han ikkje då svartkarve og sår kryddekarve og set kveite i rader og bygg på avmerkte stader og spelt i kantarne?

26 For his God doeth instruct him to haue discretion, and doeth teach him.

Hans Gud hev synt honom den rette måten, han lærde honom det.

27 For fitches shall not be threshed with a threshing instrument, neither shall a cart wheele be turned about vpon the cummin: but ye fitches are beaten out with a staffe, and cummin with a rod.

For ein treskjer ikkje svartkarve med treskjeslede, rullar ikkje vognhjul yver kryddekarve; men med stav bankar ein svartkarve, og kryddekarve med kjepp.

28 Bread corne when it is threshed, hee doeth not alway thresh it, neither doeth the wheele of his cart still make a noyse, neither will he breake it with the teeth thereof.

Vert brødkorn krasa? Nei, ein treskjer det ikkje stødt, og når ein driv sine vogn og hestar yver det, so knusar ein det ikkje.

29 This also commeth from the Lord of hostes, which is wonderfull in counsell, and excellent in workes.

Ogso dette kjem frå Herren, allhers drott. Han er underfull i råd, stor i visdom.
