Isaiah 21

1 The burden of the desert Sea. As the whirlewindes in the South vse to passe from the wildernesse, so shall it come from the horrible land.

Come i turbini che si scatenano nel Negheb, così egli viene dal deserto, da una terra orribile. Oracolo sul deserto del mare.

2 A grieuous vision was shewed vnto me, The transgressour against a transgressour, and the destroyer against a destroyer. Goe vp Elam, besiege Media: I haue caused all the mourning thereof to cease.

Una visione angosciosa mi fu mostrata: il saccheggiatore che saccheggia, il distruttore che distrugge. Salite, o Elamiti, assediate, o Medi! Io faccio cessare ogni gemito.

3 Therefore are my loynes filled with sorow: sorowes haue taken me as the sorowes of a woman that trauayleth: I was bowed downe when I heard it, and I was amased when I sawe it.

Per questo i miei reni tremano, mi hanno colto i dolori come di una partoriente; sono troppo sconvolto per udire, troppo sbigottito per vedere.

4 Mine heart failed: fearefulnesse troubled me: the night of my pleasures hath he turned into feare vnto me.

Smarrito è il mio cuore, la costernazione mi invade; il crepuscolo tanto desiderato diventa il mio terrore.

5 Prepare thou the table: watch in the watch towre: eate, drinke: arise, ye princes, anoynt the shielde.

Si prepara la tavola, si stende la tovaglia, si mangia, si beve. «Alzatevi, o capi, ungete gli scudi!».

6 For thus hath the Lord said vnto me, Go, set a watchman, to tell what he seeth.

Poiché così mi ha detto il Signore: «Và, metti una sentinella che annunzi quanto vede.

7 And he sawe a charet with two horsemen: a charet of an asse, and a charet of a camel: and he hearkened and tooke diligent heede.

Se vede cavalleria, coppie di cavalieri, gente che cavalca asini, gente che cavalca cammelli, osservi attentamente, con grande attenzione».

8 And he cryed, A lyon: my lorde, I stand continually vpon ye watche towre in the day time, and I am set in my watche euery night:

La vedetta ha gridato: «Al posto di osservazione, Signore, io sto sempre, tutto il giorno, e nel mio osservatorio sto in piedi, tutta la notte.

9 And beholde, this mans charet commeth with two horsemen. And he answered and said, Babel is fallen: it is fallen, and all the images of her gods hath he broken vnto the ground.

Ecco, arriva una schiera di cavalieri, coppie di cavalieri». Essi esclamano e dicono: «E' caduta, è caduta Babilonia! Tutte le statue dei suoi dèi sono a terra, in frantumi».

10 O my threshing, and the corne of my floore. That which I haue heard of the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, haue I shewed vnto you.

O popolo mio, calpestato, che ho trebbiato come su un'aia, ciò che ho udito dal Signore degli eserciti, Dio di Israele, a voi ho annunziato.

11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth vnto me out of Seir, Watchman, what was in ye night? Watchman, what was in the night?

Mi gridano da Seir: «Sentinella, quanto resta della notte? Sentinella, quanto resta della notte?». Oracolo sull'Idumea.

12 The watchman saide, The morning commeth, and also the night. If yee will aske, enquire: returne and come.

La sentinella risponde: «Viene il mattino, poi anche la notte; se volete domandare, domandate, convertitevi, venite!».

13 The burden against Arabia. In the forest of Arabia shall yee tarie all night, euen in the waies of Dedanim.

Nel bosco, nell'Arabia, passate la notte, carovane di Dedan; Oracolo sull'Arabia.

14 O inhabitants of the lande of Tema, bring foorth water to meete the thirstie, and preuent him that fleeth with his bread.

andando incontro agli assetati, portate acqua. Abitanti del paese di Tema, presentatevi ai fuggiaschi con pane per loro.

15 For they flee from the drawen swords, euen from the drawen sword, and from the bent bowe, and from the grieuousnesse of warre.

Perché essi fuggono di fronte alle spade, di fronte alla spada affilata, di fronte all'arco teso, di fronte al furore della battaglia.

16 For thus hath the Lord sayd vnto me, Yet a yeere according to the yeeres of an hireling, and all the glorie of Kedar shall faile.

Poiché mi ha detto il Signore: «Ancora un anno, contato alla maniera degli anni di un salariato, e scomparirà tutta la potenza gloriosa di Kedàr.

17 And the residue of the nomber of ye strong archers of the sonnes of Kedar shall be fewe: for the Lord God of Israel hath spoken it.

E il numero degli archi dei prodi di Kedàr resterà molto esiguo, perché il Signore Dio di Israele ha parlato».
