Habakkuk 1
1 The burden, which Habakkuk the Prophet did see.
Der Ausspruch, den der Prophet Habakuk empfing. Die Beschwerden des Propheten vor Jahwe.
2 O Lord, howe long shall I crye, and thou wilt not heare! euen crye out vnto thee for violence, and thou wilt not helpe!
Wie lange schon schreie ich um Hilfe, Jahwe, ohne daß du hörst; wie lange schon rufe ich dir zu “Gewalt!”, ohne daß du Hilfe schaffst!
3 Why doest thou shewe mee iniquitie, and cause me to beholde sorowe? for spoyling, and violence are before me: and there are that rayse vp strife and contention.
Warum lässest du mich Unheil erleben und siehst Unbill mit an? Verwüstung und Gewaltthat sind vor meinen Augen; daher ist Streit entstanden, und immer aufs Neue hebt Zwietracht an.
4 Therefore the Lawe is dissolued, and iudgement doeth neuer go forth: for the wicked doeth compasse about the righteous: therefore wrong iudgement proceedeth.
So kommt es, daß das Gesetz erlahmt, und das Recht niemals mehr ans Licht tritt. Denn die Gottlosen umgarnen die Frommen; darum tritt das Recht verdreht ans Licht.
5 Beholde among the heathen, and regarde, and wonder, and maruaile: for I will worke a worke in your dayes: yee will not beleeue it, though it be tolde you.
Seht auf, ihr Treulosen, und blickt umher! Stiert und staunt! Denn er wirkt in euren Tagen ein Werk - ihr würdet es nicht glauben, wenn es erzählt würde!
6 For lo, I raise vp the Caldeans, that bitter and furious nation, which shall goe vpon the breadth of the lande to possesse the dwelling places, that are not theirs.
Denn fürwahr, ich lasse die Chaldäer erstehn, das grimmige und behende Volk, das die Breiten der Erde durchzieht, um fremde Wohnsitze zu erobern.
7 They are terrible and fearefull: their iudgement and their dignitie shall proceede of theselues.
Schrecklich und furchtbar ist es, ihm selbst entstammt sein Recht und seine Hoheit.
8 Their horses also are swifter then the leopards, and are more fierce then the wolues in the euening: and their horsemen are many: and their horsemen shall come from farre: they shall flie as the eagle hasting to meate.
Seine Rosse sind schneller als Pardel und kühner als Wölfe am Abend; seine Reiter sprengen stolz einher und seine Reiter kommen aus weiter Ferne; sie fliegen dahin gleich einem Adler, der sich auf den Fraß stürzt.
9 They come all to spoyle: before their faces shalbe an Eastwinde, and they shall gather the captiuitie, as the sand.
Sie alle gehen auf Gewaltthaten los, dringen unaufhaltsam vorwärts und bringen Gefangene auf wie Sand.
10 And they shall mocke the Kings, and the princes shalbe a skorne vnto them: they shall deride euery strong holde: for they shall gather dust, and take it.
Und er - er macht sich über Könige lustig, und Würdenträger dienen ihm zum Gespött. Er lacht über jedwede Festung; er schüttet Erde auf und erobert sie.
11 Then shall they take a courage, and transgresse and doe wickedly, imputing this their power vnto their god.
Dann gewinnt er neue Kraft und zieht einher und verschuldet sich, er, dem seine Kraft als Gott gilt.
12 Art thou not of olde, O Lord my God, mine holy one? we shall not die: O Lord, thou hast ordeined them for iudgement, and O God, thou hast established them for correction.
Bist nicht du, Jahwe, von Urzeit her mein Gott, mein Heiliger, der nimmer stirbt? Jahwe, zur Vollstreckung des Gerichts hast du ihn bestimmt und zum Strafen ihn verordnet -
13 Thou art of pure eyes, and canst not see euill: thou canst not behold wickednesse: wherefore doest thou looke vpon the transgressors, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked deuoureth the man, that is more righteous then he?
du, dessen Augen zu rein sind, als daß du Böses anschauen könntest, und der du Unbill nicht mit anzusehn vermagst - warum siehst du die Treulosen mit an, schweigst dazu, wenn der Gottlose den, der im Rechte gegen ihn ist, zu Grunde richtet?
14 And makest men as the fishes of the sea, and as the creeping things, that haue no ruler ouer them.
Du ließest ja die Menschen werden wie die Fische im Meer, wie das Gewürm, das keinen Herren hat!
15 They take vp all with the angle: they catch it in their net, and gather it in their yarne, whereof they reioyce and are glad.
Sie alle zog er mit der Angel empor, zerrt sie fort in seinem Garn und rafft sie ein in sein Netz. Darum freut er sich und frohlockt;
16 Therefore they sacrifice vnto their net, and burne incense vnto their yarne, because by them their portion is fat and their meat plenteous.
darum schlachtet er seinem Garn und opfert seinem Netz. Denn sie verschaffen ihm üppige Beute und fette Speise.
17 Shall they therefore stretch out their net and not spare continually to slay the nations?
Darum zückt er beständig sein Schwert, um schonungslos Völker zu morden.
