Genesis 34
1 Then Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare vnto Iaakob, went out to see the daughters of that countrey.
Et Dina, fille de Léa, qu’elle avait enfantée à Jacob, sortit pour voir les filles du pays;
2 Whome when Shechem the sonne of Hamor the Hiuite lorde of that countrey sawe, hee tooke her, and lay with her, and defiled her.
et Sichem, fils de Hamor, le Hévien, prince du pays, la vit, et la prit, et coucha avec elle et l’humilia.
3 So his heart claue vnto Dinah the daughter of Iaakob: and he loued the maide, and spake kindely vnto the maide.
Et son âme s’attacha à Dina, fille de Jacob, et il aima la jeune fille, et parla au cœur de la jeune fille.
4 Then said Shechem to his father Hamor, saying, Get me this maide to wife.
Et Sichem parla à Hamor, son père, disant: Prends-moi cette jeune fille pour femme.
5 (Nowe Iaakob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter, and his sonnes were with his cattell in the fielde: therefore Iaakob helde his peace, vntill they were come.)
Et Jacob apprit qu’on avait déshonoré Dina, sa fille. Or ses fils étaient aux champs avec ses troupeaux; et Jacob se tut jusqu’à ce qu’ils viennent.
6 Then Hamor the father of Shechem went out vnto Iaakob to commune with him.
Et Hamor, père de Sichem, vint vers Jacob pour parler avec lui.
7 And whe the sonnes of Iaakob were come out of the fielde and heard it, it grieued the men, and they were very angry, because he had wrought villenie in Israel, in that he had lyen with Iaakobs daughter: which thing ought not to be done.
Et les fils de Jacob vinrent des champs lorsqu’ils apprirent [ce qui était arrivé], et ces hommes furent affligés, et ils furent très irrités, parce qu’on avait commis une infamie en Israël, en couchant avec la fille de Jacob, ce qui ne devait point se faire.
8 And Hamor communed with them, saying, the soule of my sonne Shechem longeth for your daughter: giue her him to wife, I pray you.
Et Hamor leur parla, disant: L’âme de Sichem, mon fils, s’est attachée à votre fille; donnez-la-lui, je vous prie, pour femme;
9 So make affinitie with vs: giue your daughters vnto vs, and take our daughters vnto you,
et alliez-vous avec nous: donnez-nous vos filles, et prenez nos filles pour vous,
10 And ye shall dwell with vs, and the lande shalbe before you: dwell, and doe your businesse in it, and haue your possessions therein.
et habitez avec nous, et le pays sera devant vous; habitez-y, et trafiquez, et ayez-y des possessions.
11 Shechem also said vnto her father and vnto her brethren, Let me finde fauour in your eyes, and I will giue whatsoeuer ye shall appoint me.
Et Sichem dit au père et aux frères de Dina: Que je trouve grâce à vos yeux, et ce que vous me direz je le donnerai.
12 Aske of me abundantly both dowrie and giftes, and I will giue as ye appoint me, so that ye giue me the maide to wife.
Haussez beaucoup pour moi la dot et le présent, et je donnerai selon que vous me direz; et donnez-moi la jeune fille pour femme.
13 Then the sonnes of Iaakob answered Shechem and Hamor his father, talking deceitfully, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,
Et les fils de Jacob répondirent avec ruse à Sichem et à Hamor, son père, et leur parlèrent (parce qu’il avait déshonoré Dina, leur sœur);
14 And they said vnto them, We can not do this thing, to giue our sister to an vncircumcised man: for that were a reproofe vnto vs.
et ils leur dirent: Nous ne pouvons point faire cela, de donner notre sœur à un homme incirconcis, car ce serait un opprobre pour nous;
15 But in this will we consent vnto you, if ye will be as we are, that euery man childe among you be circumcised:
nous nous accorderons avec vous seulement sous cette condition, que vous soyez comme nous en circoncisant tout mâle parmi vous;
16 Then will we giue our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to vs, and will dwell with you, and be one people.
alors nous vous donnerons nos filles, et nous prendrons vos filles, et nous habiterons avec vous; et nous serons un seul peuple.
17 But if ye will not hearken vnto vs to be circumcised, then will we take our daughter and depart.
Mais si vous ne nous écoutez pas, pour être circoncis, nous prendrons notre fille, et nous nous en irons.
18 Nowe their wordes pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamors sonne.
Et leurs paroles furent bonnes aux yeux de Hamor, et aux yeux de Sichem, fils de Hamor.
19 And the yong man deferd not to doe the thing because he loued Iaakobs daughter: he was also the most set by of all his fathers house.
Et le jeune homme ne différa point de faire la chose; car la fille de Jacob lui agréait beaucoup, et il était plus considéré que tous ceux de la maison de son père.
20 Then Hamor and Shechem his Sonne went vnto the gate of their citie, and communed with the men of their citie, saying,
Et Hamor, et Sichem, son fils, vinrent à la porte de leur ville, et parlèrent aux hommes de leur ville, disant:
21 These men are peaceable with vs: and that they may dwell in the land, and doe their affaires therin (for behold, the land hath roume ynough for them) let vs take their daughters to wiues, and giue them our daughters.
Ces hommes sont paisibles à notre égard; qu’ils habitent dans le pays, et y trafiquent: et voici, le pays est vaste devant eux; nous prendrons leurs filles pour femmes, et nous leur donnerons nos filles;
22 Onely herein will the men consent vnto vs for to dwell with vs, and to be one people, if all the men children among vs be circumcised as they are circumcised.
mais ces hommes s’accorderont avec nous, pour habiter avec nous, pour devenir un même peuple, seulement sous cette condition, que tout mâle parmi nous soit circoncis, comme ils sont circoncis.
23 Shall not their flockes and their substance and all their cattell be ours? onely let vs consent herein vnto them, and they will dwell with vs.
Leurs troupeaux, et leurs biens, et toutes leurs bêtes, ne seront-ils pas à nous? Seulement accordons-nous avec eux, et ils habiteront avec nous.
24 And vnto Hamor, and Shechem his sonne hearkened all that went out of the gate of his citie: and all the men children were circumcised, euen all that went out of the gate of his citie.
Et tous ceux qui sortaient par la porte de sa ville écoutèrent Hamor et Sichem, son fils; et tout mâle fut circoncis, tous ceux qui sortaient par la porte de sa ville.
25 And on the thirde day (when they were sore) two of the sonnes of Iaakob, Simeon and Leui, Dinahs brethren tooke either of them his sworde and went into the citie boldly, and slue euery male.
Et il arriva, au troisième jour, comme ils étaient dans les souffrances, que deux fils de Jacob, Siméon et Lévi, frères de Dina, prirent chacun son épée, et vinrent hardiment contre la ville, et tuèrent tous les mâles.
26 They slewe also Hamor and Shechem his sonne with the edge of the sword, and tooke Dinah out of Shechems house, and went their way.
Et ils passèrent au fil de l’épée Hamor et Sichem, son fils, et emmenèrent Dina de la maison de Sichem, et s’en allèrent.
27 Againe the other sonnes of Iaakob came vpon the dead, and spoyled the citie, because they had defiled their sister.
Les fils de Jacob se jetèrent sur les tués et pillèrent la ville, parce qu’on avait déshonoré leur sœur;
28 They tooke their sheepe and their beeues, and their asses, and whatsoeuer was in the citie, and in the fieldes.
ils prirent leur menu bétail, et leur gros bétail, et leurs ânes, et ce qu’il y avait dans la ville et ce qu’il y avait aux champs,
29 Also they caryed away captiue and spoyled all their goods, and all their children and their wiues, and all that was in the houses.
et ils emmenèrent et pillèrent tous leurs biens, et tous leurs petits enfants, et leurs femmes, et tout ce qui était dans les maisons.
30 Then Iaakob said to Simeon and Leui, Ye haue troubled me, and made me stinke among the inhabitats of the land, aswell the Canaanites, as the Perizzites, and and I being few in nomber, they shall gather theselues together against me, and slay me, and so shall I, and my house be destroied.
Et Jacob dit à Siméon et à Lévi: Vous m’avez troublé, en me mettant en mauvaise odeur auprès des habitants du pays, les Cananéens et les Phéréziens, et moi je n’ai qu’un petit nombre d’hommes; et ils s’assembleront contre moi, et me frapperont, et je serai détruit, moi et ma maison.
31 And they answered, Shoulde hee abuse our sister as a whore?
Et ils dirent: Traitera-t-on notre sœur comme une prostituée?
